This is a great view of blue press frame, but not such a great view of how to remove and replace parts and pieces. You need to give your camera man a better vantage point so we can understand what's happening.

This was very helpful getting the 45 switched out with the 223. I had one question though. On the xl650, the instruction manual calls for the reversible case insert slide cam to be set to the short side (b position)...how important is it to switch that the the short side? I noticed the xl750 in the video has it set to the long side. Thanks

While this is very educational, you need to do a short version that demonstrates the main selling point of the press which is the ability to quickly change calibres once setup. A lot of people are going to look at 49 minutes video length and not even watch.

this is considered quickly? im debating getting into reloading and to do this to change our 4-5 different ammo sizes this seems like a pain

@@posterlin This is an instructional video starting from scratch for people who have never done it. Once your tool heads, dies, powder measures etc are set up, a full calibre change takes less than 5min (a bit longer if you have to change primer size)

@@posterlin yeah I think the additional tool heads are 35$ on dillons site. If you're doing different calibers all the time it's worth buying seperate tool heads, set your dies up once then just switch tool heads. Always double check your dies though. You might have to fine tune them a bit for each different load. If your loading bulk anything that electric case feeder is the way to go

Nice. How fortuitous. This is exactly what I'm doing today, but one slightly confusing thing.... is 223 considered "pistol"? Per the manual, page 33 in the conversion list, 223 is listed under pistol. On page 36, the Case Insert Slide Cam has a pistol and rifle side that can be reversed as appropriate. I notice you did not reverse the slide cam to rifle.... so it stays on the pistol side for 223?
@DillonPrecisionVideos
@DillonPrecisionVideos 4 жыл бұрын
Good catch. 223 Rem does not need to have the slide cam changed over. if you are loading anything larger you should switch sides on the slide cam.

I just got my XL750 set up... its a beautiful machine, wheres my free calendar lol. Seriously shouldn't bullet seating depth be done per the OGIVE measurement due to there being so much variation in FMJ bullet lengths?
@99pppo
@99pppo 4 жыл бұрын
If you want to load bullets without a cannelure and especially when you want to have a repeatable record of the proper length, then yes. In the case of the cannelured FMJs in the video, it was just to make sure the maximum length is within specs. Because those kinds of bullets you just seat by looking at the placement of the cannelure in relation to the case mouth.

this is the only reason i am so hesitant on buying a reloading station the process of changing calibers is costly and you damn near have to take the entire unit apart and reassemble it for that caliber i would think by now things would start becoming more universal with adjustable or parts that can be re-calibrated for different calibers instead of dissembling and replacing said parts with a different one i would be willing to pay more money just to be able to change calibers almost on the fly
@DillonPrecisionVideos
@DillonPrecisionVideos 4 жыл бұрын
We see where your concern may be. That said, most of our customers dedicate a caliber to a machine, that way you set it and leave it to that load.

@@DillonPrecisionVideos i cant see my self spending 10k dollars just too be able to reload like 5 calibers for personal use (referring to different machines). it doesn't seem both economical nor practical unless someone was trying to make an at home manufacturing plant at that point its simpler to buy a single stage press and just buy dies and shell holders. in my opinion making a professional grade machine in which one can just calibrate the core components to a specific caliber and then the only replacement parts needed for the caliber change would be simple die sets this would make more sense for people who like to shoot multiple caliber guns but still want the cost savings and accuracy of a hand loaded rounds

It is not that hard. Fizzle britches makes it look difficult when he is changing things out. It is all straight forward. Once you realize what is caliber specific about the caliber conversion, changing it is a breeze. Keep in mind, they are also setting up dies in this video. Once that is done, caliber conversion...only...is quick.

@@tjdinfl I can confirm, I only came to this video for the .223 die conversion install as I never loaded this caliber before. When Changing pistol dies. After the dies are set the conversion process goes as follows. Loosen set screw for plate bolt Remove plate bolt Remove shell plate. Clean where the shell plate goes with alcohol to get any spilt powder off. Remove locator buttons (Little brass thingys) Remove case locator guide from infront of the feeder. Pull 2 pins that hold the tool head in place and remove tool head Place new feeder slide guide thing place new shell plate tighten and lock shell plate bolt place new locator buttons Change feeder bushing (lifts out) Change feeder funnel (Unscrew finger tight) Place feed tube adapter. (change primer bar if going from Small to large primers Slide in new tool head and insert pins. total time 5 minutes or so including finding where that bottle of alcohol went to. Granted like any progressive the conversion kits and tool heads are a bit of an expense but cheap enough as to not prevent a separate tool head and powder thrower for each conversion. $200 ish per caliber.

@@DillonPrecisionVideos Thanks. Well I think it came with 9mm. I want to reload 450 bushmaster. So I would need to buy a conversion kit? Also people ask me how you can make sure of the brass size on the dillion. Say I have 50 rounds, do people just use the resizer on the dillion then pull it off to then trim the case length? Because if you dont then maybe you get varying case lengths. Not sure how to do go about that but im new.
