I think it’s the fact that this is just key frames so each pose is very expressive and readable. The way they hold for a second or two instead of just animating cleanly gives the brain time to digest it and really take it in.

the cell shading exaggerates the shaded areas and non shaded areas, plus add abit of black outlines on the edges and it looks like a 2d animated character. it's like how ark system works make guilty gear xrd and dragon ball firghterz, games with 3d models, look like a 2d animation, plus, due to the key poses. he only animates the face most of the time
