Here I go over the process we use for stacking, stickering, and strapping lumber with poly strapping to secure stacks of lumber for delivery and prior to going into the kiln for drying.

This video just brought back memories (the sound of the ratchet) of working at the building supply place years ago AND it answered my question about whether poly would work (we used metal) for lumber. Thank you.

Same here. I worked at a production sawmill stacking lumber and we also used the metal strapping. They can be more dangerous. The poly strapping works great. Thanks for watching and following our channel.

Just thinking about buying a strapping system, thanks Dillon. Very helpful. You could use some corners on there though to protect your product edges and so your customers don’t have to thickness extra off their boards to get rid of the dent from the strapping.

You are right. I actually bought a box of plastic corners and totally forgot I had them. You comment actually just reminded me that I have them, lol. Thank you 👍. I'll need to pull those out and use them.

Really great video. Would you do this for air drying lumber too? Also what do you do after the lumber has dried for tightening up the straps? The lumber would shrink but maybe the straps are tight enough to begin with that they wouldn't be loose after.
@practicallyIndependent
@practicallyIndependent 3 жыл бұрын
We strap lumber as soon as well mill it. Since this video we have really increased our production. Even built another kiln. The straps eventually loosen, but the biggest benefit of the straps initially it helps keep the pile steady while we move it around. Thanks for watching. More big updates coming soon. It's been too long since we did a video

@@practicallyIndependentwould it be possible to leave the strap sticking out and manually cut it long enough to be able to tighten it back up after any shrinkage? I have the same system but got metal crimps instead of the buckles. If you can tighten it up later I’d definitely make the switch

You could definitely tighten it up later if you leave enough slack. That wouldn't be a bad idea

Hi mate... nice and clear (a bit dusty lol) video.. You got loads of timber I got a loads of question...: -is it usable for the same size but metal banding? -are the buckles reusable (after use), dunno how it locks -can you re-tighten if timber srunk ? Have la ook around veg markets because certain paletts have got very strong plastic corner pieces say 5x5x200 (cm) for free. At work we get rid of dozens of them... Cheers and subbed. AB (UK)
@practicallyIndependent
@practicallyIndependent Жыл бұрын
You can only use these buckles for poly banding. The buckles are reusable and it can be retightened when the wood shrinks

2 days of searching for an easier way😭🔥🔥 the guy at work used 2 wood pieces under it to hook strap under but another guy told me he doesn't use 2 wood pieces, he just straps it up like you did. I'll do it this way bcuz the first way is complicated & annoying

Two comments. I can see the strap material slipping back in the buckle just before you cut it. I wonder if a different type of strapping, like woven, or a coated buckle would allow for more tension without slippage. Also, can you retighten these as the wood shrinks? Maybe leave more strap on the tool side without cutting it short?
@practicallyIndependent
@practicallyIndependent Жыл бұрын
The slippage is because I tighten it Beyond its capability and then I let it slip back to its maximum strength on its own. It's still very tight so much that it actually cuts into the wood sometimes. And sometimes I do leave some slack if I decide I'm going to want to tighten it later. Thank you for the questions and comments. I hope my answers and video help you in some way
