The words he was saying in the growl, or vocal fry, were "ascolte la voce" which means "listen to the voice" in Italian, I believe. A "vocalise" is just a vocalization of melody without words. He is asking us to just listen and feel the music without the distraction of lyrics or meaning. That's my interpretation anyway. This is one of my absolute favorites of his. No, it's not at the beginning, but after singing for 1 hour. And this is a proper song composed by Igor Krutoy not some exercise. I have a playlist of atleast 15 vocalise versions of Dimash and everyone of them is different as he performs it with some changes every time.

"Vocalise" in this context means that instead of the actual lyrics he sang nonsensical syllables, which gives this version a kind of jazzy vibe (to me at least). There are other live versions of this song "Знай" (usually translated as "Know") with lyrics (also a very good music video). In the beginning and the end he said "ascolta la voce", which is Italian and means "listen to the voice".

There are 3 versions of Know. 1. Igor Kurtoy is playing the piano and he sings with Lara Fabian. 2. Igor is playing the piano. Dimash is wearing a white suit. 3. I love this one. Vocalises are a common musical form used in classical music to challenges singers to exercise their vocal capabilities and date back to the mid-18th century. It gave rise to related music traditions in the 19th century and would later lead to the development of a vocal style used in jazz, known as scat singing. The words Dimash spoke in vocal fry at the very beginning and the end were "Ascolta la voce", which means "listen to the voice" in Italian.

It's essentially Ella Fitzgerald style skat singing. Ella actually did a song called "Vocalise" herself in which she displayed her skat singing ability in a similar way. I can't help but think Dimash may have run across that in his intense studies of vocal stylings.

There are loads of vocalise performances of this song that Dimash does. ALL VERY DIFFERENT. This song composed by Igor Krutoy was originally sung by Lara Fabian, again, without words, because there weren’t any at that time! However lyrics have been written for Dimash to sing.
