If I were to guess, it was probably Ian wanting to make more banal music to appeal to a younger crowd. And it was so easy to do at this time too being that it was really really cool to sell out and make banal pop music that put bands like MCR, fall out boy and the man hating Hayley Williams on the map. Everything Ian was doing was so calculated now looking back at it all. I feel bad for the other members of this band. I saw a comment that drugs screwed Ian’s voice up enough that 2004 was the only time his live performances weren’t pitchy. I’ve slowly worked my way back from the year he was arrested and it seems true. Even starting in 2008 his stage presence and vocal accuracy dropped drastically every year until their last show.
@rorz9998 ай бұрын
Tbf vocalists' voices often get worse over time even if they don't drink or do drugs. Shouting/screaming just kind of butchers your vocal cords even if you use good technique
@umbre046 ай бұрын
He wasn't doing drugs in 2004, nor his sex crimes apparently, he was doing it all for the fame, it wasn't until 2006-2007 when the downward spiral started, and he was then taking drugs on a daily basis, and using his fame to groom and abuse his young fans, and infants brang from those mothers...
@calvinstraveldreams4 ай бұрын
I would say he peaked in 2006-7, given how challenging many Lostprophets songs are to sing, especially on Start Something and Liberation Transmission…I would say that circa 2004 Ian was about on par with Jared Leto and Matt Bellamy as a singer-and by 2006-7 he had a considerable advantage (slightly stronger belting range than Leto and far stronger than Bellamy, as well as having a pretty good falsetto range superior to that of Leto (though still not yet on the same level as what Matt Bellamy had given that Bellamy was basically GOD in the falsetto/pharyngeal register and could pull F5-A5 falsettos since 1999)). Really Ian just needed to stay off the drugs and get help-and he could have taken his singing to the next level…
@calvinstraveldreams4 ай бұрын
And many songs on The Betrayed were likely recorded BEFORE the drugs REALLY started to wreck Ian’s voice, so the band ended up with a bunch of songs that sounded great in the studio, but were way too difficult live…

@@peters5041Can’t speak exactly for what OP was trying to say, but some people believe that the prison system should do absolutely everything to rehabilitate prisoners. In the US- most of our prisoners regardless of offense end up right back in prison because the system is meant to keep them there and makes them even worse when they leave. I personally would love to see a justice system that always works for rehabilitation & prevention. I think most people would- in order to prevent people like Ian to reaching these levels of depravity. Remember that as disgusting as it is- pedophilia is indeed a mental illness that can be treated properly. There are a couple places in the US trying to work towards creating a system like this. Germany has been working for years to treat people who struggle with those urges, I believe it’s called Project Dunkelfeld? Forgive my spelling if that’s incorrect. A lot of these treatments have showed tons of promise and good results. Maybe they were asking Ian to do his absolute best in any capacity to try to make amends even though his crimes are absolutely despicable? I suppose giving money to sexual assault charities, to the victims families, etc. would be maybe what they’re thinking? Dedicating his life to fighting SA maybe? Again, I’m only taking guesses. This is me genuinely trying to interpret in good faith what they mean by this.

Every time I listen to this band I'm struck by how good the band is and what a weedy non descript singer Watkins's actually was. My other and more important thought is, how well are the kids he abused going to adjust should they ever find out what happened to them?
@libby19774 жыл бұрын
Breaks my heart thinking about them kids. Quite a lot of them will remember what he did to them - the 4/5 yos and I think a 13yo he knew quite well too.

Man, when I see this I'm so conflicted. Everything about this is so good, the energy, the music and performance. But on the other side the things Ian did and was planning to do makes me sick. Whatever happened to the other band members?

They formed a new band but it’s not very good.

Jamie still has art n a fitness trainer. Lee and Stuart are in No Devotion and stu plays for Thursday now. Jocko has a band and stu is a producer. Mike manages bands. I still play their catalogue for the other five guys that deserve all the happiness and success x

Disgusting what the singer Ian did and it's a god damn shame that this unbelievably talented group of guys had their careers ended bc of him.

This is precisely why people need to be so stupid about caring what a musician or actor is like. They provide a fantasy to us. I’m not going to listen to someone who’s only skill is throwing a ball about politics. If an artist paints the worlds most expensive painting but is then caught doing the worst did he not still paint them? No, the artist painted it. The person did the bad.

I’m in the group that thinks he was definitely corrupted, mixed with hard and psychedelic drugs and mental illness. He was the perfect candidate to be manipulated. Their early interviews to the end you can see the trajectory pretty easily. It’s very strange and not as easy as he was just this creep underneath the surface his entire life

I noticed that. I wonder what happened there.
@millennialwhoop3 жыл бұрын
@@ImaginaryAsh his bass was out of tune, so he switched it off to tune. You can hear it during the verse how out it is, and you can kinda see him run to the side to tune. Pretty smooth recovery all things considered!

@@millennialwhoop would love to see ppl appreciate this man and his music etc like you do... all they say is about what he did. ofc its sick but we dont even know any background and.. this is not the place to always blame him here and there. just appreciate and listen to the music ffs :D
@millennialwhoop2 жыл бұрын
@@kingo5940 eh, we know plenty of background, and it's pretty fuckin sick and gross. I don't appreciate the man so much as I do the band and the art they created together. Screw Ian forever, but goddamn these tunes are good!
@kingo59402 жыл бұрын
@@millennialwhoop yes ians tunes, all his work :D and no i wouldnt say you know that much if you hate ian but not the band cause the band knew pretty well bout his hard drugs he took and about the things his ex gf went to police etc etc. nobody stopped him from anything. they just went with it. they only were angry at him when he didnt show up (which was unavoidable) they could have done sth and protected him and kids. he was sick and he needed rehab and medical help cause of psychological desease. but i diferentiate what ian did outside of the band from the music he made which yes you said it: are freaking good bro

Just goes to show; all the BEST songwriters and artists are absolute freaks. Some can keep a lid on whatever strange compulsions they have, some think they are too cool to even try and give a f@ck. Chances are, if a band makes amazing songs that really speak to your heart, there's something seriously wrong with them. example is I dunno... Anthony Keidis. That dude is over 60 years old and dates 26 year old women. There's something wrong with that.... in case you didn't know.

You call this crap best songwriting? Dude, you really know nothing about music, don't you
@Darksider541892 ай бұрын
@aartur1254 do you* and innovation doesn't equate to quality. Before Ian started being a horrible piece of $hit Lostprophets were amazing traditional hard rockers.
