The original song was Japanese. It got translated into Chinese with different lyrics even. That's the version Dimash seems to have learned first. Then he learned the original and sang it for the Tokyo Jazz Festival. 😉

This song was originally written in Japanese - and that's the version Dimash delivered in this video. At Singer 2017, he sang the Chinese language version. I like both versions, but I do think he has become a more mature artist with better control over his voice than he had in 2017. He makes his register transitions seem even more effortless, smoother. I enjoy the gentle humor you add to your videos. You make me smile, Vera.

You said you've reacted to this song before but you reacted to Autumn Strong which is a different song although both use the same melody . Ikanaide is the original Japanese song that begs a loved one not to leave. Chinese TV producers heard the song and loved the melody. They asked Koji Tamaki for permission to write new Chinese lyrics for a tv docudrama about a Chinese born beloved actress of Japanese heritage who was deported to Japan after WW2 due to hatred of anything Japanese at the time. Autumn Strong was written as the theme song for the tv series. Both songs are gorgeous but have different meaning and emotions behind the songs. Autumn Strong is a song of heartfelt sorrow for the inevitability of fate. Ikanaide is a great begging plea for a lover to not leave. Dimash performs them both perfectly. The Japanese song writer Goro Masuri said Dimash's version of Ikanaide is the most beautiful Japanese song he has ever heard from a foreign singer and is sung perfectlyas Goro intended..

Hi Vera, nice to have you back! 🤗 Actually you reacted to a different version, in terms of language. This Japanese version is the original song, but there also is a Chinese version Dimash sung back in 2017. He stayed with this Chinese version for many years, but for the 20th Tokyo Jazz Festival in 2021 (which was held online) he recorded the original version in Japanese. Both are adapted for his voice of course, and both are absolutely awesome - and quite different when you listen closely. I listen to both versions, love them both, and Dimash still sings the Chinese version on his concerts. (Sorry to hear you missed the concert - it was incredible!💥🤩)

Das freut mich sehr! Ikanaide ist ein Song, den ich sehr liebe und zu dem ich persönlich eine enge Bindung habe, schon bevor Dimash ihn sang. Er bringt in mir so viele Erinnerungen an meinen Japan-Aufenthalte zurück. Meilensteine in meiner eigenen Vita, bittersüss, die ich nicht missen möchte. Und auch wenn die Mandarin-Version ebenfalls wunderschön ist, so ziehe ich die japanische vor, einfach weil diese Sprache in mir mehr resoniert. Schade, dass es für dich mit dem Konzert nicht geklappt hat. Am 09.04. war ich mit einer lieben Freundin in Düsseldorf. Was soll ich sagen ...? Es war so vieles in einem. Es war ein Knaller! Es war musikalisch absolut top! Es war trotzdem sehr persönlich! Und Dimash ist einfach unbeschreiblich. So voller Energie, so mitreissend, so engagiert, so herzlich und teilweise auch einfach nur niedlich. Ich hatte vor dem Konzert noch zu meiner Freundin gesagt, dass dieses Konzert eine einmalige Sache für mich sein würde. Dieses Hin und Her im Vorfeld mit Pandemie und dann noch dem Krieg, hat mir das Nervenkostüm so zerschossen, dass ich irgendwann nicht einmal mehr fähig war, mich auf das richtig Konzert zu freuen. Dieses Gefühl besserte sich, als mir Dimash am Flughafen eher unverhofft über den Weg lief "Huch! Oh Gott! Er ist tatsächlich da! Ich glaube das Konzert findet echt statt!" und war dann wie weggewischt, als ich endlich in der Halle sass (ich hatte bis zur letzten Sekunde gezittert, dass unsere mehrmals umgebuchten Eintritts-Tickets nicht mehr gültig sein könnten) und er auf die Bühne schritt. Ich bin seit diesem Konzert tiefenentspannt. Dieses Gefühl permanent unter Strom zu stehen, das mich jetzt seit Pandemiebeginn begleitet hat, ist während dieses Konzerts von mir abgefallen. Da war dieser latente Stress: Klappt das? Ja? Ja! Nein! Doch! Hurra, Bestätigungsmail mit Ticket! Pandemie! Ach, in ein paar Wochen ist das vorbei! Oh, doch nicht vorbei! Nein, Stuttgart ist gecancelt und Hamburg auch, du musst nach Düsseldorf! Düsseldorf?!? Das ist weit, da nimmste Flugzeug! Schei***! Hotelbuchung in Stuttgart stornieren! Dem "Gutschein für Konzertticket deiner Wahl" hinterherrennen! Neu buchen! Flug buchen! Hotel buchen! Okay! Ist das Konzert noch gelistet? Ja! Uff! Nein, wieder verschoben! NEIN!!! Flug annulieren, Hotel annulieren. Wie war nochmal mein Passwort beim Ticketanbieter? Okay, neue Ticketversion runter geladen! Yay, ich bin doch nicht so doof! Was ist das für ne Mail in Kyrillisch in meinem Posteingang? Herzinfarkt? Nein, kein Herzinfarkt, ist bloss Werbung - Deepl sei Dank! Ui, Mist, der Flug geht extrem früh von Zürich weg, da hab ich noch keine ÖV-Verbindung! Also, Göttergatten volljammern! Ja, er fährt mich - ausnahmsweise! Und so weiter und das über den Zeitraum von beinahe zweieinhalb Jahren. Ich hab mir das Konzert echt verdammt sauer verdient 😅👍🏻 und hoffe, dass du das nächste Mal auch mit dabei sein kannst. I think the concert is really happening!" and was then wiped away when I finally sat down in the hall (I had been trembling until the last second that our tickets, which had been changed several times, might no longer be valid) and he strode onto the stage. I have been deeply relaxed since that concert. This feeling of being permanently under power, which has accompanied me since the beginning of the pandemic, fell away from me during this concert. It is the original Japanese version of the song. The song you remembered reacting to was Autumn Strong, which is the Chinese version, which has the same melody. The song is still about the Japenese singer born in China, performing under an assumed name, who was deported when her Japenese ancestry was discovered following the war. However, the lyrics are different between the Chinese and Japanese versions. You have a good ear, and a good memory, to make the connection between the songs despite having only heard them a couple of times.

This was another very enjoyable reaction. This is quickly becoming one if not the favorite Dimash performance for me and it invokes a very visceral response in me, just as "Ave Maria" did. I believe this actually was a live performance in that Dimash sang "Ikanaide" live for the Tokyo Jazz Festival Live stream in January of 2021 as it was being recorded. According to several native Japanese speakers, Dimash's pronunciation of the lyrics is nearly flawless. One native speaker, who gave a detailed analysis, stated that he is "expressing Japanese more (better) than Japanese" and that he does not only perfectly pronounce Japanese but "expresses Japanese…with Japanese emotion.". Goro Matsui, who wrote the lyrics to "Ikanaide," posted on his Twitter account that he has never heard a foreigner sing in Japanese in such a beautiful way. Tamaki Kōji composed the music and performed the song in 1989. "Ikanaide" became the title song for the Chinese-Japanese TV series "Farewell, Li Xianglan," filmed that year. It is the story of Yoshiko Yamaguchi, a beloved Chinese-born Japanese actress and singer during World War II who hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan. Following the war, when the Chinese became aware of her Japanese heritage, she was accused of being a spy and sentenced to death by firing squad for treason and collaboration with the Japanese; she had been involved in the production of Japanese propaganda films. Thanks to the intervention of influential friends, she was cleared of all charges but urged to leave China or risk being lynched. She resettled in Japan, where she would continue to enjoy a successful acting career. In the 1950s, she moved her acting career to Hollywood and Broadway under the name Shirley Yamaguchi but returned to Japan in 1959, retiring from acting. She would go on to become a TV presenter and eventually a politician. She did not return to China for nearly 20 years. In 1990, "Ikanaide" was translated into Cantonese and sung by Jacky Cheung using the same melody. Later, the song was rewritten and translated for Jacky Cheung to Mandarin under the title "Late Autumn." In 2004 the Taiwanese singer Terry Lin adapted the song into a new version titled "In Deep Autumn," with lyrics written by Daryl Yao. Dimash chose the 2004 Taiwanese version arranged by Terry Lin with Mandarin lyrics for his performance at the 2017 "I Am A Singer" competition but gave it his own interpretation and titled it "Autumn Strong." This song went on to earn Dimash the "Best Foreign Singer" award during the Golden Melody Award in Hong Kong.
