The Chinese and Japanese versions have totally different lyrics. The Chinese and Japanese versions have completely different lyrics. Both are based on a true story. The Chinese version is sad, says goodbye, just as the leaves fall in autumn and autumn comes ... irrevocably. The Japanese version does not want to accept the loss, is full of pain, pleads, suffers ... heartbreaking. I am totally fascinated how sensitively Dimash differentiates between the feelings of sadness and loneliness in the Chinese version and loss and pain in the Japanese version and conveys them to the listener... it tears my heart apart and the tears keep flowing. I have never heard anything like this from a singer in my entire life. That is true mastery. * The original Japanese version (composed 1989) by Koji Tamaki (*1958, Japanese songwriter) based on a sad true story... very touching: It is about Yoshiko Yamaguchi (*1920-2014), a Chinese-born Japanese actress during World War II. She hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan and became famous in China. However, when the war was over and she revealed her identity, she was accused of being a spy. She was deported to Japan and longed for China. Ms. Yamaguchi did not return to China until many years as deputy environment minister in the Japanese parliament. The song is a metaphor as the lyrics speak of how a person should hide what they are feeling. Koji Tamaki sent a wonderful message to Dimash, thanking him, and praising him for singing his song in Japanese. * Vbloggers, they reacted to the original by Koji Tamaki, they are mesmerized and can't stop listening to him. Another very enjoyable reaction. Dimash sang “Ikanaide” for the Tokyo Jazz Festival in January of 2021 from what looks like his studio at home. According to several native Japanese speakers Dimash’s pronunciation of the lyrics is nearly flawless. One native speaker, who gave a detailed analysis, stated that he is “expressing Japanese more (better) than Japanese”. Goro Matsui who wrote the lyrics to “Ikanaide” posted on his Twitter account that he has never heard a foreigner sing in Japanese in such a beautiful way. In 1990, “Ikanaide” was translated into Cantonese and sung by Jacky Cheung using the same melody. Later, the song was rewritten and translated for Jacky Cheung to Mandarin under the title “Late Autumn”. In 2004 the Taiwanese singer Terry Lin adapted the song into a new version titled "In Deep Autumn", with lyrics written by Daryl Yao. Dimash chose the 2004 Taiwanese version arranged by Terry Lin with Mandarin lyrics for his performance at the 2017 “I Am A Singer” competition but gave it his own interpretation and titled it "Autumn Strong". This song went on to earn Dimash the "Best Foreign Singer" award during the Golden Melody Award in Hong Kong.
