SOS is a song in the rock-opera „Starmania“ from 1978. The first who presented this song was the French singer and songwriter Daniel Balavione. The phrase „Sleep, child, sleep“ is sung in the musical as the character bends over the corpse of his girlfriend, who has committed suicide SOS was Dimashs‘ first performance of the China competition (in 2017) and was his first appearance in this show. The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among other countries. He was still completely unknown in China. The other competitiors might not have taken Dimash seriously at first because of his age and that they didn’t know him but that quickly changed after the performance of SOS, as you can see. I love this video because he still seemed so innocent. Just a boy and he didn't seem as serious as he sometimes is these days. He still looked carefree. In case you weren't aware ... this was during a Chinese contest. Dimash was considered a "wild card". They didn't think he'd last more than a couple of episodes but actually came in 2nd. This was episode one and he was the first one to perform. You can see how both the audience and other contestants were astonished!

he was not second :) like you said it was competition show for chinese professional musicians. Dimash was added to the show as wild card but rules of that show did not allow foreigner to win it so he "did not win". organisers changed those rules next year and invited Dimash as a guest star

@@barbarasaracini1271 Yes after that show, the Chinese made it up to him in every way by inviting him to perform at every giant festival, events, tv shows, etc. and gave him every award that could possibly be awarded a foreign artist. He is still the only foreign artist asked to sing Jasmine (a sacred new years song) multiple times every year except for the quarantine years. He just sang it again in a duet with Tia Ray at the 10th Silk Road Film Festival on 9/27/2023.

Thank you. This song comes from the 1978 French Canadian rock opera Starmania. In a futuristic totalitarian world where everyone worships show business, an underground terrorist group is led by Johnny Rockfort, the character who sings this song. I don’t know which translation you were reading, but it wasn’t quite accurate. For example, it wasn’t “I’d like to see the world turned upside down” but “I’d like to see the world upside down”. In other words, he is turning himself upside down, like a bird would, to see the world. Rockfort of course is a tragic character and fails to overturn the Monopolis government.
