IMHO This performance is the epitome of Dimash's talent. (at the time, 2017 before and during the time he was becoming famous worldwide) He rewrote the original arrangement and orchestrated the musicians to his interpretation to make it his, uniquely. He learned the English phonetically (as best he could) memorizing each sound of each word barely speaking any English. All of this in one week, with people who spoke only Chinese and all through interpreters. He profoundly exhibits his courage, confidence and dedication. He's the Man! P.S. Dimash has done duets with opera singers, including Placido Domingo, who he himself asked Dimash to sing with him, in 2023. He also has some older duets with opera singers, I like “Ulysses,” with Aida Garifullina, who is a current famous Russian opera singer!

Dimash couldn't speak a word of English here and he had to learn these songs very quickly for this show. He was 22 years old and a student in Kazakhstan. Since 2019 he started to seriously study English and now he speaks and understands the language well. He also studied Mandarin and he can speak it a little but says its very hard for him, but he is still trying his best. So far he has performed in 16 languages that we know of ❤

This version of such iconic song seems brilliant to me, full of emotion. It is sung in "dimglish" obviously. I think that in the contest they were given the songs to practice with little time and when it is not their own language, through phonetics. We would also have to see the suitability of the instructors... My original language is Spanish, therefore I don't feel anything affected by pronunciation. Nor when he sings "El amor en ti" in Spanish!! He is an artist who moves us with his voice and interpretation, whether or not we understand what he is saying. You are one of my favorite reactors--you know so much, and have such a pleasant voice to boot! It is a pleasure to listen to you react to Dimash. There are some people who can nail an accent, but most people do not end up sounding like a native speaker. I love Dimash's accent. When he did The Singer 2017, he had just begun to learn English, and because he only had a week to learn a song, he learned phonetically. He still learns much of his Chinese songs phonetically, even though he can speak Chinese a little bit. English is easier to learn, and he is doing much better with it--but he will always have his accent. Dimash is my favorite singer in the whole world, one of my very favorite human beings. I pray for his safety and health every day.

For me, you are one of the most authentic analysts of Dimash's voice. You are fully aware of what is alive and what is not alive, unfortunately a lot of so-called vocal coaches are unable to distinguish between recordings or they are just pleasing the yt community to collect likes. Dimash indeed doesn't need any correction, digital improvement on his voice. I hate nowadays music industry, just like instagram, everything is filtered and we lose the best part of ourselves that makes us human because of the fear of not being perfect.

The whole competition is shown on TV in China, where lipsynching is not allowed. He sings live everywhere bc he can do all the musical acrobatics, perfectly. He doesn't need auto tune, he IS auto tune!

Dimash is sometimes required to lipsync. It is his own voice, but some countries, and shows, want to have strict control. It has happened that some singers on live TV, have used that chance to get their political views aired live. I have seen it in the past. Also, I think sometimes he needs to give his voice a rest, but I do like it live best, and anyone who cares to find out will know Dimash can sing it live and usually does. 😊

the Singer series are live broadcast in front of a 500-member jury who are also the audience. they vote by secret ballot after every performance and the results are announced at the end of the event. any enhancements or compressions that you notice are added during post-production. All rights to that process solely belongs to the TV Station. Dimash here was a 22yr old student trying to find a place for his voice in the industry. You should watch performances from his concerts as other legit coaches do for raw performances to see the difference 8yrs since his Singer debut. Also there are as many videos of Dimash singing with/without mic as there are on his channel

All of the singers had no enhancements to their performances. They were all professional singers who had established careers for years. Dimash was the only non-professional, the only foreigner, and the youngest performer. He only spoke Kazakh, of course, and some Russian. His first four songs were in French (SOS), Russian (Opera 2), English (The Show Must Go On), and Mandarin ( Autumn Strong), with only one week to learn each song. The other singers were 12-39 years his senior. With each performance, you could hear how his singing continually improved, as well as his English. This was his first time singing in English, and by the time he got to All By Myself, he was almost perfect. Dimash won the first two rounds, it should have been the first four. I guess they had to save face since Dimash was a "dark horse", and was not expected to go past the second round. All in all, he came second in the competition, but should have been first. Some of the other contestants felt that way also. Some of the others said that it was stressful to have to perform after Dimash. They gave Dimash a lot of love and respect during his time there.

He had been performing as a semi professional since his first performances from age 5 but he became fully professional as an adult since he was 16 in 2010 💖

Once someone is a paid performer, in any field such as music, athletics, or sports, they are no longer permitted to perform against non-professionals.

If you haven't reacted to "The Story of One Sky" yet, you will eventually hear some good grittiness in that. I think Dimash used a lot of different vocal techniques in his Singer songs because it was a competition. His non-competition songs tend to be less "crazy". But also, as we all know, Dimash sings in the way he feels best expresses the feelings of the song he is singing. 🇨🇦

The incredibleness of the performance is the fact he was extremely sick just prior to singing. The doctors gave him medicine and said it may or may not help. Its just incredible to watch. I am a first soprano and lost my voice and ended up singing low notes. Hard to do when I don't have a low range but when sick I can do so. The fact he got to keep his voice and hit all those notes is amazing.

I find Dimash's accent to be amazing. More precisely the vowels are mostly SPOT ON, it the syllables that are sometimes incorrect.

Accents may be charming but you should at least pronounce words correctly, even though you have an accent. And mispronunciation and enunciation, not accent, is Dimash´s weakness. For example, in his recent "You raise me up" he mispronounced the word "heart" as "heard". After so many years and after singing "heart" in "My heart will go on" correctly years ago, this is just negligent and unprofessional.

Yes. In China they are very strict..they don't allow cheatings during competitions specially singing. He had some pronounciation problems here since he does not speak english during that time but still he nailed it vocally♥️

‘Singer’ is a singing competition for established professional singers in China, they invite foreign artists (so far from Malaysia, Korea, Russia, Japan, UK, Canada, US) to participate. The contestants are only allowed to sing two of their own songs and the rest of the songs have to be covers. They are also expected to be innovative and give their covers a twist instead of just duplicating the songs. Also, all the performances in this competition have gone through certain degrees of post-editing and hence are not totally raw as many believe. Of course some contestants may need more touches up than the others, and many live audiences said that Dimash sounded even richer and fuller live before the post editing. That said, each year their grand finale and charity night are always live broadcast without post editing. Hence, Dimash’s “tribute to MJ” 2017 finale, “give me love” 2017 charity night, “hello” 2018 charity night, “lose control” 2024 finale, and “angel’s love” 2024 charity night, are totally raw with ZERO touch up 😊

What a performance! Fantastic to observe Dimash's evolution in his craft subsequently too. Look, ALL Voices are unique, but every now and then - so RARELY - does a voice come along that stops everyone in their tracks. Dimash is one of these, but Tim, there's ANOTHER that I think you haven't heard yet. Her name is KARISE EDEN. She's a 'True Blue' Aussie Girl who, at age 19 won the 2012 Australian VOICE. Karise has come from the school of hard knocks - both before and subsequent to her success back in 2012. She has had NONE of the advantages or training that Dimash has benefited from. Is all self-taught, which is simply MINDBLOWING! Karise has matured and is just starting to hit her stride again, and the world is going to sit up and take notes - because this truly is the voice of a SUPERSTAR. { A new Rabbit Hole for you Tim. Oh yes, let him watch "The Story of One Sky" from the concert and maybe at least this specialist will tell the truth - Dimash synchronizes the whole song. He does NOT sing it live at the concert in Almaty. At other concerts, he sang only the first part of the song live. Starting with vocalization - not a live performance. I don't argue, even when it's a recording, not a live sound, it's still Dimash's voice recorded in the studio, it's a great, great recording. But maybe at least here fans will stop writing about the "live" performance of "The History of One Sky".

There’s only one week between each episode, so there are songs that he learns , Autumn Strong is in Chinese, and the audience is also Chinese so they are very impressed with his pronunciation. One week to learn how to pronounce a song in Mandarin Chinese, that was a very emotional episode.

Thank you for your professional reaction! I would ask for a reaction to the song „Daybreak“: very emotional. There are two versions. I suggest to beginn with the version The Singer 2017. The true and tragic story behind the song is explained here and it shows Dimash’s dedication to his work. And than please follow up with the version Bastau. At this point his English was practically not existent - only a couple of words actually - he had to learn the lyrics phonetically. Therefore - he did a really good job with it considering that. He obviously is very good at reproduce different languages phonetically according to native speakers commenting on the 14+ languages he performed already.

I love your reaction. I agree with you that there are times when Dimash’s voice has been ‘corrected’ and I do prefer his natural singing voice. There are dozens (at least) of videos where we can see that natural raw talent. Imagine being a lesser singer than Dimash and thinking that if *his* voice isn’t (supposedly) good enough to not need correction, what chance do ‘I’ have? I know that sometimes it seems necessary (sickness, event stipulation, perhaps) but Dimash has a God-given talent. Other than rare cases, I don’t think anyone needs to “correct” it. Anyway, I appreciate your honesty.
