Please bear in mind this is not some random off-the-street audience, they are there by TV network invitation, and all are members of musical industry - singers, musicians, songwriters... there's 500 of them, and they are the judges for this competition. Before the first performance, they have never heard of Dimash, but they welcomed him very warmly. He was announced as the youngest ever participant, and opening with one of 5 most difficult songs in French language - SOS, so they cheered for him wholeheartedly when he stepped on that stage. Of course, after 30sec of him singing, they couldn't help falling in love with his voice, his performance, and him... Don't we all know what that is like :) And so it began. This performance got him No1 position in that round. No wonder

I think you are mistaken about the audience... not all of them are members of musical industry (some are just music students) - just that if you are, you'll have a higher chance of passing the audition to be shortlisted to attend the sessions as audience.

The best singer in the world? First there is no "the best" and second not really because his English diction is less than desirable and needs perfecting or at least major polishing. Proof of my argument is that at 1:44 he amateurishly pronounced the word "wind" as "whine" which a big "no" "no" to any singer at his level even if English is not his first or native language.....he should've had native English speakers check his pronunciation of all the English songs he was gonna sing. Granted this was from 2017 but I have not noticed a massive improvement in him erasing his rather thick foreign accent in his English songs which would be strongly helpful if not necessary if he wants to break into mainstream pop commercial charts in English speaking countries like the USA, UK, Canada, Australia etc. Finally, one reason why Dimash look up so much to Lara Fabian is because Lara is an emotional giant. This I say because as far as vocal chops are concerned Lara cannot compete with the skills (or range) of Dimash but emotionally Dimash is not in the same league as Lara, Sohyang or even Angelina Jordan. Vocal skills will take you far but emotional prowess is what separates the men from the boys, the women from the girls and the rock gods from the rock stars.

Hi, Christi! Thanks so much for reacting to Dimash's version of Adagio! I'll bet if you took a vote this would be the most popular video selected by his followers. You spoke about the audience's reaction and, yes, that woman, OMG, incredible. Seeing him perform live is special, indeed. I was fortunate to see him perform in Brooklyn almost a year ago and you felt all the love in the building. He prepared the audience to hear him sing Unforgettable, a beautiful song. He told the audience that he was happy everyone came to see him and that they thought the night would be unforgettable. But, he then told the crowd, "Yes, I am happy for you but, to me this night is also unforgettable. As a little boy I dreamed of singing in New York and my dream has come true!" He started to cry during his humbling words and, of course, all of us started crying. Maybe we'll all have a chance to see him in 2021.

I love, love, love this performance and it’s difficult to compare with Lara Fabian’s because they’re both excellent, and very different too. At the end of the day, the words are Lara’s and if I could only choose one, it would be her’s. These two are, in my humble opinion, the best singers ever! Good to see you again and to hear your thoughts on this masterpiece. As a professional, I allowed myself to listen to Adigo three times before I thought about it from a critical point. It was then that I realized, every nuance of this work was formulated and intended. It is a work of desperation and conveyed in a desperate way, right on the edge. He is a master storyteller willing and able to give himself over completely. There is no pretense as you watch him suffer the pain of this human. That beautiful vocal ability is just the vehicle that carries the journey along. That stunned look on his face as he comes out of the trance is real. The greatest operatic singers ever known possessed that ability. I am a retired A&R, who would have given my life work to support such a talent. Dimash Kudaibergen, is a Kazakh singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. His parents, Kanat Kudaibergenuly and Svetlana Aitbayeva, are well known and honored singers from Kazakhstan. Kudaibergen began to sing and play the piano in various venues and competitions throughout his childhood. He gained great popularity in Kazakhstan and in the post-Soviet countries in 2015, by becoming the winner of the Slavianski Bazaar Grand Prix in Vitebsk, Belarus. I love the timbre of Dimash’s voice in this piece (okay - any piece, but I love this!). I believe that Dimash plays (officially) seven instruments including (in part) piano, drums, dombra... I can’t think of the others currently (although I think I’ve seen him fooling around on the kobyz and I think I’ve seen him plucking at a cello - noticed that one since I play cello). It’s always fun to hear musicians “deconstructing” Dimash’s vocals. Love both Lara Fabien’s and Dimash’s versions of Adagio. Dimash chose to modulate with forced dissonance but it is well within an acceptable (pleasant?) range and does nothing horrific to the listener other than to increase the heart rate while he reaches the next level.
