Dimash was very playful for this performance. He said that if he had known his Dad was in the audience, he wouldn't have been so 'cheeky' onstage. He fears disappointing his family and his fans. I think Dimash was really pumped up from the reaction to his first performance, "SOS." China went nuts for him after that. He had to have bodyguards the next day.

This performance is actually quite easy for Dimash which is why he has fun with it. He knew that his audience were familiar with Vitas performance and he knew he was going to blow it out of the water so he just played with the audience and did not do it in a serious way like Vitas. I love it because it shows such a cute side of Dimash as well as his awesome vocals. Anyone who wasn’t totally in love with Dimash before this, was absolutely besotted after seeing him with his Dad. “did I sing well” he asks. My goodness. What humility And then to ask for reassurance again!! Dimash has many times said his dad is he hero, supreme idol and role model. The love he has for his parents and grandparents just melts me. I would give the world to have a son who loved me like that. What a pure joy he must be to them. I love your enthusiasm to Dimash, it’s a pleasure to watch you. Dimash actually did this song once when he was a bit younger, on a comedy tv show. It’s a crack up. They got him on stage and gave him lyrics that they had written for him to this music and asked him, unrehearsed, to sing their lyrics. Their lyrics were all about him, the boy from Kazakhstan He could hardly sing it for laughing. Good fun. 🤣

This was episode 2. The audience voted him top performer for this and SOS the week before. He was also voted top for episode 6, Adagio which you have already reacted to. You may wish to see Dimash performing pop. There is the music video: Be With Me or the 2021 performance of Fly Away. Very different again but just as mesmerising. Both in English with some Kazakh rap in the first one!

The story goes that when Kanat showed up for his son’s performance, it was the beginning of him managing his son’s career. After the amazing success of SOS for the first episode of the show it was clear to Kanat that Dimash was going places that he had never been. And boy was he correct! He remains his manager and they have a great team put together that takes care of all of Dimash‘s career moves. As usual, the singer is to take care of his vocal instrument and that is a main priority. And usually, the entertainer/singer has a lot of input in his career but also has to trust that his manager and the others on his team are taking a great load off of him. I believe that he thinks through all of the offers that come his way and approves every move. Then the team members take care of the dynamics and specifics.

Dimash completely outperformed the original song by Vitas -- and given that this was one of Vitas' most well known songs [and the fact that he never really expected anyone to do the song as well, let alone even better than his original version], Vitas was not happy about Dimash outshining him, and word has been that he requested it to not be performed again...

False story. I hope people stop spreading it. The issue was with the I'm a Singer competition not asking Vitas if they could use the song. Vitas and Dimash are on good terms. Dimash stopped singing Vitas songs out of respect for the artist.

What do you mean there is no meaning? Its a song about loneliness and the screaming is like the winds howling. It's a tradition of mourning in many cultures. The song is pessimistic and lyrical at the same time. The sad lyrics contrast with the high notes that elevate the general mood in the tradition of Russian literature and folk songs. No wonder the song was so popular in Russia.

I wonder, if it is like, no matter the pain and suffering you are feeling on the inside, you put up a cover like all is well and happy, or it is Time that happily dances on while mere humans deal with their life passing and choices they made. I don't know. Maybe Vitas was deeper than we think, or maybe it was his sense of humor.

@@HappybdD_mash5-24There are many Russian songs where to an outsider music seems incongruous with the meaning. The lyrics may be sad and music uplifting. To Russians it's about being sincere and strong in the face of fate. There are traditional Russian songs that foreigners, who value positivity and "fake it till you make it" attitude, find depressing but Russians sing them at holidays and weddings. In one traditional song a dying soldier talks to a raven, in another there is a conversation with Frost, a horse. This guy talks to winds. Nature (the howling winds) is a positive that transcends fate. Being a part of nature, you are strong, part of a bigger plan kind of thing. Just trying to say you have to understand the cultural references to understand the meaning.

You are the BEST reactor I have ever seen! You did/said SO many things that other reactors, even vocal coaches, never do/say. Thank you for picking this particular video. It is one of my favorites because of his singing but also the other singers' reactions and, of course, his reaction of seeing his father. The beautiful young woman with the shorter hair won the contest, Dimash was second, and the 4-guy band was third. In 2018 the show changed the rules allowing foreigners to win. Dimash's cover of DAYBREAK by Chinese superstar Han Hong led me to find out more about her. Being the gentleman that he is, he asked for her permission to perform the song. She was a contestant on "I AM A SINGER 2015" and won. She has an awesome voice and is a real spitfire(funny, full of energy). Please react to the singing of her song on the show--pick the video on Gloria Wu's channel as it gives the backstory of the song & has English lyrics. She is a humanitarian like Dimash. She has adopted 87children, including the one that the song (It's)DAYBREAK is about. Yes, she looks like a little man but she's just a lesbian. She was born in Tibet of a Tibetan folk singer mother and a Chinese(singer?) father, who died when she was 6 so some of her songs have Tibetan themes. She connects with orphans because after her father died she had to go live with her grandmother, I believe, in China. I love your accent (I see you are in Belgium) and you're very cute and talented. YBPlaysMusic..this is the secund prestation for DIMASH on the singer..this particular song was composed and sung by the famous RUSSIAN SINGER VITAS.. who didn't like DIMASH to sing it.. because DIMASH made it his own by interpreting it better from all points of view in much higher and with even better bass than the original... which meant for VITAS that his chances of receiving other prizes for this song and performance were almost nil after DIMASH sang it.. it was settled with an out-of-court agreement.. DIMASH agreed not to sing it in the future..and the same thing happened with the song HELLO.by LIONEL RICHIE..he also didn't like DIMASH's performance on the song HELLO...greetings from CANADA

Thanks, YB, for this enjoyable Dimash reaction. I noted you asking some questions related to the original version of this song. Here are a couple of answers, along with a few thoughts of my own. The original singer of Opera 2 is Vitas. Just like you, I have no idea why it's named Opera 2, so I just take that as it is. The original video, however -- which I'm linking below so you can check it out easily -- is *very* different from Dimash's performance here, enough so that I believe it's something of a masterpiece (albeit quite bizarre) in its own right. Vocally, however, there's a lot of space between Vitas & Dimash. While Vitas sings the high notes well enough, his tone is thin & reedy in comparison with Dimash's thick, robust sound. Further, regarding key changes, the original version had only one, such that Vitas's high phrases ended a C6 & then a C#6. Dimash, on the other hand, added two more key changes, so that his high phrases ended with C6, C#6, D6 & D#6. As I heard it, the extra key changes were what Vitas roundly objected to. As I understand it, this is similar to how Lionel Richie objected to Dimash's cover of "Hello". It seems to me these guys just can't stand being bested on their own songs. Спасибо за субтитры Юрий ! Это песня Опера-2 на тот момент была уже популярна в Китае. Оригинальное исполнение было озвучено и спето в Китае певцом из России Витас где то в 2013году. И поэтому Димаш вынужден удивить публику и перепеть намного лучше Витаса. Мелодия этой песни достаточно подходила Димашу где в припевах высокие ноты и т.д. Игорь Крутой который пишет песни для Димаша сказал, что стиль Димаша называется кроссовер. Он в одной песни может добавлять и импровизировать голосом несколько тональностей и техник исполнений. Спасибо Димашу за его уникальность и желание петь очень и очень красиво. Юрий вам спасибо за ваш труд , и вполне отличное отношение к творчеству Димаша! Браво!!!

Thank you - again - for an enjoyable reaction! This was the first song I ever heard from Dimash, and it gave me a severe shock. 😱😱😱Together with SOS it made me addicted to Dimash for life.🤩🤩🤩 I didn't know Vitas by then, but I checked his video out later. And loved it! After all, he was the one who came up with this grazy melody. I don't think there is any need for comparisions; these are two different songs! And as someone said once in a comment, Dimash chooses songs he loves and songwriters he respects - so let's do the same. It was most unfortunate that it came to a conflict due to negligence of some kind. 😞😞😞
