FYI, Dimash was interviewed about the D8 and said this. I was going to hit another note and my voice completely failed me, so I had to adjust. LOL! So he adjusted to the D8. You might have noticed that he had his mouth open just before and was moving his mic back and forth, just like he had just done a few seconds before, and nothing came out. That is where his voice failed him. I have no idea what note he was attempting to hit, but that his voice was so trained and relaxed that he could hit the D8 is fabulous to me.

The note he tried to hit was a G7, which you can see him do in older performances. Never seen him hit it in newer live performances and he kind of abandoned whistle register now but you can hear it in some of his pre 2017 performances

I know he said that he was planning the G7, and then it was silent so he adjusted & got the D8. But I have always wondered whether that moment of "silence" was actually something so high even Dimash couldn't hear it. Of course it's just a question in my mind. Too bad the performance didn't happen in front of the dolphin tank at Sea World, I would have loved to see if dolphins reacted to the "silent moment". 🐬🐬😄

I had heard that sometime before the performance, not right before, but like some days prior, he had gotten about 6 Injections in his neck because I think he was sick, and that's probably why he ended up failing to hit the G7, but instead it went an octave higher, this actually tends to happen sometimes when you're sick, your voice ends up going lower or higher than how you want it.

This concert was for the natives of his country. Sort of a victory concert after his 2017 appearances on I AM SINGER. Dimash wasn't feeling well but didn't want to disappoint his countrymen.

The 2nd time you see him waving the mic around - no sound came out and Dimash said that his voice failed him at that moment.... he had to adjust his voice quickly and that D8 was the result!

The mic shake not only adds to the sound, but he began employing it because so many idiots were saying he was lip syncing. Poor decno babies just couldn't understand and except the real deal. Auto tune got thrown out too. He has perfect pitch.

This was Dimash's first performance back home in Kazakhstan after The Singer 2017, and he was the last performer to sing at this concert, where 30,000--50,000 were expected. They said that traffic and everything came to a screeching halt when 150,000 showed up, jamming up the city. I've come to love everyone's (ESPECIALLY voice teachers'!) reactions to this D8 when you can watch as their minds all just go

Dimash composed “Unforgettable Day” as he was 19 ys. A Dear said, Dimash first sings an ultrasound 🤣 I think, then he remembers that we humans can’t hear it and gifted us a D8 (out of piano) and he held it for “endless” long 5 seconds. This is a world record. Nobody has ever sung this high note in a live performance (captured on video for eternity). The shaking of the microphone is not only a cool effect, but also shows that he is singing live (is often doubted). This event was the 3rd Open Air Music Festival organized by Gakku TV on September 16, 2017 in Almaty, Kazakhstan - (2015 - 40,000 spectators, 2016 (1000 years of Almaty) - 90,000 spectators. 2017 - Dimash was announced and 150,000 came. A Kazakh Dear wrote, the city center was completely paralyzed because of the many people. Oh, hey, Chris. I think all of us think of Dimash as our “boo” when he’s this good. I actually prefer his whistle notes in the duet with Li Yugang. In context it’s kind of a sing-off, plus they’re singing Diva Dance, so crazy vocals are expected, and they’re even more natural in context. In this, I was impressed that he could produce that sound, but “dog whistle” was the first thing I thought as well. Anyway, good point about the smooth change in registers. That’s HARD to do and takes lots of training and skill. Great reaction. Do check out that duet, and DUDE, I need to see your reaction to Voiceplay’s latest!!

If we check other versions that Dimash sings of this song (he wrote when he was younger), we can see a melisma or other very beautiful variations in this part of the "whistle". Here, playing on an open stage and with some discomfort in the return (we can see several times adjusting the earphone) we realize, in this specific part of the song, that he is going to do something and, not being able to perform what he pretended (perhaps interference from the audience the ragged feedback has hampered his concentration), so he sends this historic and wonderful C#8 modulated to D8 and vibrato! A more technical analysis we can see that the notes sound dissonant, as they do not belong to the harmonic field of the tonality of the music. Even so, it's a show of technique! He must have thought instantly: "Since I couldn't do what I wanted, I'm going to break bad out of the tent and send the inconceivable and supernatural D8!" Of course this is a joke of mine, but it makes us wonder: What's Dimash's limit?

There are good subtitles on the 2021 digital show performance, obviously It's not the same performance and he doesn't hit the D8 but in my opinion it's a much more emotionally charged performance and although the D8 is shocking and impressive it's not exactly easy on the ears.

It's not a dog whistle. My dogs didn't even flick an ear when I played this. Maybe Dolphin? Maybe have to take my laptop down to the Pier & see if they come! 🤣😆😊 Ps. just a heads up about "Daybreak". I don't think you've gotten to that one yet? This is one song that you must not do 'cold'. Get the backstory first & have the subtitles on. @Chris, we checked the Hz through the video of course, and it was very close to 5000Hz!! I believe it was 4798.64 or something like that.. anyhow, it is actually more like an E8+ ppl just started saying a D8 because of someone reacting to it awhile ago

I have a theory that Dimash can actually go higher. I think he was trying to do a higher note than a D8 when his voice failed him right before he adjusted to do the whistle. I have no proof that he can go higher…except maybe the Across The Dimensions song, but I don’t think it was as high as that D8. I don’t know. That’s just my theory though.
