The Dimension C or whatever it is called is good, but it actually sounds quite different to the old Dimension D - disclaimer as I am sitting here listening to this on my MacBook speakers (nobody's perfect!), but this unit here, while it sounds pretty good seems to miss something quite subtle about the original - sounds a bit thinner and more like a conventional chorus pedal than a Dimension D. But hey, I could also be way wrong!

Your video here is the first one that shows this product used in applications that I really wanted to see--clean guitars, distorted guitars, with delay added, also on vocals and bass... finally a proper demo! I agree with you--for $150 (well underneath the Boss Waza Dimension C pedal price by $100), and considering it's basically a part for part clone of the Roland Dimension D, I'm all over it! Ordered one for myself today, actually! Thanks for the pointers about the buttons, etc. Good to know in advance. Thanks for a great demo!

Great demo and review! Mine was an impulse buy, because they were on sale for $149US a few months ago and it's still in the box. I'm actually on the fence about keeping it... I agree about the size issue. If TC (Klark's sister company) can smash similar functionality into their 3rd Dimension chorus pedal and cost less than 1/2 the price of the Klark, unit, why does the BBD-330 need to take up 2U of precious rack space? I suppose a large part of the allure was to look just like a Roland Dim-D, which is very difficult to come by these days for less than $2000. I've also noticed that the low end rolls off considerably when the effect is engaged vs. the dry signal, so I don't think I'd want to use it directly in my signal path, but rather on an effects send or in parallel with the dry signal. This may also be the case with the Roland unit that the BBD-320 is modeled after. Either way, it is a decent sounding chorus and does what I remember the Dimension-D doing in the studio many years ago. My mentor was a mix engineer and used a Dimension-D primarily to add some interest and spacial width to background vocals (which already had the all of the low end rolled off). It wouldn't be a good choice to integrate into your rig if you are a gigging musician based on the size and limited features. I'd imagine that your Eventide Eclipse would be far better suited for that purpose and Eventide's chorus effects are amazing. The BBD-320 is more of a novelty for old-school engineers like me or musicians obsessed with 80's retro sounds. This unit would most likely sit at the bottom of my home studio's rack with a favorite setting permanently engaged, begging the question, "why don't I just use a plugin?"

Was just watching some You Tube vids of isolated vocals and I noticed how many have the Dimension D on them. Came back here to listen to Ryans vocal again through the 3rd Dimension. @@KnockAndAskToday it might be one of those "goldilocks" style effects for guitar, where the "rich" nature of electric guitar sounds (particularly intermodulation distortion) calls for a slightly more subtle effect like this vs keys which need a bit more of a pronounced effect.

I heard this unit is thiner sounding & lower dB. I am thinking to buy one and add a BBE Sonic Maximizer (to at least enhance bass, like a mod). I also heard this unit can me 'modded' like other units. yes? all the pedals don't do it. and to use plugs, a computer-dependent (digital) system is needed. so far, this is it! wondering if a year or so later, owners are satisfied. You know, this unit 's circuitry 'could' be re-housed in a long pedal. Just sayin'.

King’s X Dogman vibe on that full band riffing? I have eyed this because the price and because I loved Power Windows as a kid. But Behringer and 2U, and I am trying to keep my rackspace sprawl down. Hit the nail with calling it out for being two rack units for 4 modes of chorus, 4 buttons and a meter, light, power and bypass buttons. In general using up a whole rack space for just chorus sounds appalling today. For a modern day unit you'd be kinda happy to have some controls to tweak the different mods, even though they're voiced like classics. Like you said, it's meant to be a shameless clone and attempts to keep it cheap, but why not make it up to date, good and attractive. TC released their Dimension D pedal clone (well, Behringer as well), Boss released their Dimension C waza, so the interest for the sound is there, but I feel like they have gauged the market poorly with this unit. Nobody is looking for inconveniently engaged chorus that takes up two rack spaces. Even if it's Dimension D sound that is getting a bit trendy (is it though?). On top of that, it does sound weirdly hollow unlike the original, that sounded very lush but rather refined. And the Boss pedals don't sound hollow that way either (the pedals are a bit more in your face compared to the original that's smoother). Perhaps that's due to the rather bright sound you demo'd?
@teknical1003 жыл бұрын

As soon as you played with distortion, I realized one thing almost immediately: This box is utterly useless without a wet/dry mix knob because the sound becomes far too thick and almost messy, which would be completely useless for most studio engineers or musicians. How about a modification tutorial for a wet/dry knob? Hmmmm.. first thing I'd be breaking would be a soldering iron !
@slowblack39472 жыл бұрын
As a "studio" unit it is supposed to be connected to an efx send bus of a mixing console, hence the absence of a wet/dry control, like the original Roland. The 2u rack case is pretty empty, with all the smd components tightly organized, not the easiest to mod. Overall a decent box IMHO, really cheap, good for budget recordings or sophisticated guitar rack systems. I wouldn't use it straight up as a guitar efx because of the brutal low end cutoff and a general "tone suck", a Boss DC-2W might be a better choice for that.
