Just in time! I've been trying to compose a piece in D-flat diminished a few minutes ago and here we are, a masterclass on diminished scale. Obrigado!

Nice sounding piano. What are you using?

Logic Pro with Steinway Grand Piano sound - pull the db slider to around -10 to avoid distortion with the higher notes

Excellent video. Beautiful sounds using diminished scale chords over it. You are using full step half step scale. Does it work on the half step full step scale also? Thank you. ,liked.

Can you explain the "every diminish chord has a shadow" part. I dont understand. That sounds really interesting and I want to learn it properly
@PianoGroove6 жыл бұрын
When you think of the C Diminished scale, you will naturally think of the Cdim7 chord. The 'shadow' is the other diminished chord (a whole step up) in the scale that is not immediately obvious. And when you combine the Cdim7 chord, with its 'harmonic shadow', that then opens up the full melodic possibilities of the scale where you can access the triads outlined at 2:24 - so instead of just running up a Cdim7 arpeggio - as many musicians do - when you also incorporate the notes from 'shadow' you can achieve more interesting colours and flavours over diminished harmony. Does that help answer your question? Cheers! PianoGroove

It isn't also called the whole half scale as it is. W,H,W,H,W,H,W,H.
