2:50: Fun story to this topic. I was testing my brothers UW build. He had some techs, but this jumped out: Valorous stance. Really? Is this limited? I kinda clowned him a little. Why is this in here? Almost immediately after that thought, as if planned, my opponent flashes his kraken. Crap! I have to counter that. Are you sure? Crap!! Cant be countered. Then i saw the valorous stance. Oh! Thats why. I killed it while he was tapped and proceeded through the game. What a quick lesson in the power of underrated cards.

Follow up. Um yeah. Valorous is darkhorse underrated for sure. Just read those two effects. In...a UW Lier? Instead of nombo dodging counter magic? Yup. With the kraken itself? Hell yes. Most traditional UW shells? You would think not as useful but the format has a lot of kill targets for the 2nd effect and peotect plays on a manland or even alrunds token can be the difference.

I had a recent game against mono white while I was playing mono green on the draw. They went turn 3 skyclave app, turn4 skyclave app, turn5 brutal cathar, turn 6 brutal cathar, turn 7 brutal cathar. Shuffler is fine

Yes! Let the White Salt flow through you! Use it. Strike the mono white down then your transformation will be complete. While that was a shuffler is fine moments, it's good to see someone fight the blue menace.

While I am normally a control player by preference this is not a power I wish to wield. CGB makes deck after deck with the Horror, he claims "it is a gift. A gift to the foes of Aggro. Why not use this card? Give Control the weapon of the endless bounce spells!" I say "You cannot wield it! None of us can! The Horror has no master."

Hey CGB! I really love your analysis. As you are discussing Shadow's Verdict, what are your thoughts on Path of Peril? I have been having some good success with it in lower ranks, but it seems effective as it destroys most of mono-whites growth cards like aspirant and then when you are late game it is a true board wipe. I have also had good results on gruul and mono-red and yeah the 3 drops get hectic which forces me to play a midrange game, but idk. I really like it.

mono white tax is the reason why i run 3 crush the weak and i foretell them to cast for one so it get around everything, also with galavanic you can do for 3 mana a shadow verdict basically

I love your content, I’ve been watching for a while now and noticed lately so much of your decks have hullbreakers if it is a control deck. Can you try to make one with out hullbreaker? Not calling you out just wondering if the format only win con is hullbreakers or alrunds. It makes games less fun seeing those two only card 80 percent of the time. Its so obvious what the opponent has if they play blue or red. I remember when blue took some skills to use atleast now it’s just have tons of instants with hullbreaker. I would just like to see classic blue kick ass again without using the same card over and over again

The only control deck I’ve found that has a favored matchup against mono white is jeskai turns in bo3 with 4 portable holes in the sideboard… chuck the unexpected windfalls and epiphany’s and top out at 3 goldspans 3 dooms jars and 3 loreholds. Has served me many 5 win series’s, best of luck gamers

I guess the theoretical way to defeat Horror is to get them to bounce it and then go after their hand. Of course if they bounce your spell instead of the horror you’re in trouble but it might work better than trying to land multiple kill spells.

It seems like Hullbreaker Horror needed a restriction like "Return target *other* nonland permanent to its owner's hand" to make it actually a reasonable rare card... or it should have been mythic. I guess it's 7 mana, but it seems like just too good of a finisher for control decks for a rare to me.

I'd like to see the percentages of wins compared to how many times casted when hullbreakers/alrunds resolve. in my personal experience when these two cards actually make it onto the board it's probably an instant loss 90% of the time.

@@jacksonlittle5993 Yeah, I'd believe that. I guess for some reason I'm more okay with those odds if the card doing the work is mythic? Maybe that's stupid of me, idk. Both cards are definitely a lot to deal with. HH is a single permanent but it has protection for days. AE spreads the love with multiple effects (including Timewalk which is a game ender on its own) but not nearly as much protection, or relying on other cards like Galvanic Iteration as we've seen.

You should know by now that Arena only gives you cards that you have 1 of or 4 of. If you have 1, it'll be in your top 20 cards, and if you have 4, all 4 will be in your top 20 cards. But if you play 2 or 3, arena thinks you don't want them.

I don't care much for jwari in this deck. I feel like you probably want to try and maximize versitile instants that can be used on command. So things like consider and siphon insight. Dread Fugue synergizes nicely with lier and hullbreaker. Hullbreaker straight up turns it into vindicate. I also don't like Jacob that much, it's a pretty good card but if you're loading up with instants it's not that amazing. I think it's a cool deck but I don't like this iteration so much.

Jacob there as a proactive early play, if you have any concealing curtains could have a couple of him, could be duress or more card draw like behold the multiverse. Could be unsummon. Maybe a mix

You guys are probably right in that an early busted card is stronger than a late busted card (3 mana Oko vs 7 mana Hullbreaker). Though I think the Hullbreaker Horror shuts down the late game more than Oko did. Hullbreaker is flash uncounterable, then bounces everything (including Oko if Oko was legal in the format).

The format hasn't even really started and I am already done with the Kraken. I mean there are must answer threats, which this surely is. But there are times when that isn't enough, you must answer this 2 or 3 times the turn it comes down. This card kills midrange and makes all control matches an unbearable slog. Epiphany was obnoxious but this is just slow and unfun. *I would love to see decks focused on beating this card if that is even a thing.*
