I made these recently following your recipe and I absolutely loved them. I ordered the beans from Amazon. These large beans are so delicious. Thank you for the recipe and video.

These beans are indeed buttery that's why in the UK we call them butter beans.

Limas and butter beans are interchangeable here in the US. in the south here, they’re usually called butter beans. 😊

Thank you! We also call them butter beans in Australia and I was wondering if they were the same.

Instead of adding sugar why not add good quality tomatoes like San Marzano tomatoes, they are more expensive but well worth it for a great dish like this :) Growing up as a kid this was one of my favorites. You have it nailed!
@missmolly85299 ай бұрын
As an Italian even when using San Marzano tomatoes I add a small amount of sugar. It isn’t because the tomatoes are not sweet but because it actually combats the natural acidity which all tomatoes have. This tip was given to my late mother back in the 1960’s. Even the smallest amount makes a noticeable difference. 👌🏻

The San Marzano tomatoes would be wonderful in this sauce. Enjoy!!

@@missmolly8529 I have found that a quarter to a half teaspoon of baking soda mixed in (it'll fizz up!) works even better. Let's the natural sweetness of the tomatoes come through without being overly sweet. I have a friend who is VERY sensitive to taste of white sugar; she can ferret it out in ANYthing!.

Can I use canned beans? I went on line looking for Greek beans. They are very expensive 😮
@joeyk53 ай бұрын
I’ve made this with canned beans you just skip the beginning of this recipe of boiling the beans, just rinse the canned beans pop in the casserole then the rest you follow

Lovely! I know it's not very Greek but how about mozzarella instead of feta? Actually Circe had a herd of buffalo so perhaps mozzarella may have some Greek ancestry! Lol

Hi Dimitra, I've made many of your recipes with success and enjoyment. Although this is not your problem, I am pointing out an ongoing problem with Greek gigante beans. I've bought the brand you show in this video 4 (FOUR!!!) times and 3 out of 4 the beans remained hard as rocks, despite overnight soaking and extra oven baking. Unfortunately, lima beans cannot match the meatiness and satisfying heft of gigante beans. But I can live without them, they are very pricey and just do not cook up. Quality control is an issue...
