Trying to make realistic sense of this crash has been a challenge, the best idea I can get is that the plane sufferered a severe tailstrike on a landing years before it crashed and Oceanic never gave it proper maintence. When the earthquake started the plane dropped dramatically and suddenly, that paried with the pilots trying to pull the nose back up lead to extreme stress put on the fuselage, and because there was never proper maintence done on the aircraft it couldnt hold itseld together, and the tail section broke off. In the show you can see that the nose is seperate from the middle, the wings are severed and one of the engines are missing, so I think that when the tail section broke off the plane entered a severe dive which led to an overspeed, the overspeed then caused the complete breakup of the aircraft, when part of one of the wings, one of the engines and the nose of the aircraft to break off. I have also identified the plane in the animation and the crash scene to be either a Boeing 777-200LR or a Boeing 777-300ER. I think a 773ER would struggle with a route that long so I think it was a 772LR. However the set was filmed on a retired Detla L1011 Tristar. Idk just thought it was cool

The problem is that a large part of the passengers survived the terrible fall which took place at a very high altitude, it is difficult to survive in these conditions or be terribly injured.

For people who dont know how it crashed (SPOILERS) In "Live Together Die Alone" you can see someone putting a code apperently he did it wrong so an electromagnetic burst blew up the plane and caused a small earthquake in the town in "A Tale of Two Cities" The explosion was so strong it made the Boeing 777 get pushed to the island
