Peace Leon! Thank you so much for this comment. I'm getting around to being able to post more and will also be filming a class soon. Please take the poll here. kzbin.infocommunity Additionally, I DO offer workshops. I have openings for September through December. And it's a better deal to snag all 4. They are virtual classes so you might want to check that out too. www.dimitrireyespoet.com/product/virtual-poetry-workshops/

Beginner poets may also try to translate poems from other languages because translating poetry always includes analysis and hard brainwork, which may help and give a great experience.
@DimitriReyesPoet7 жыл бұрын
Translation, yes! If you have a command of multiple languages or even are intermediately multilingual one would benefit from translating poetry from one language to another. It' sure is a challenge! I had actually done a translation of one of my poems recently and the way the connotations of words & phrases change from one language to the next is VERY interesting. In that recent experience, I have also discovered that the poem sounded better in Spanish rather than English. Do you work on translations, Antos?
@sivyh7 жыл бұрын
Dimitri Reyes yes, besides translating my own poems from Belarusan to English (and vice-versa), I've tried to translate other poems (or sometimes folk songs) from English and Russian to Belarusan. The way all the tropes work really differ from language to language.

Antos, That is very cool. And agreed, tropes as well as colloquial terms and phrases even-- vary greatly from language to language. I think this is worth a video!

Some of my poems took over 6 months to write and finalise. One of my best took 15 minutes! Poetry is beautiful. I never knew I liked poetry until I started writing it and developing my own style and "language".

Kenneth, sorry I didn't get back to this comment, it got lost in the shuffle. If you can further elaborate on what you mean by basic structures of composition, I can point you in the right direction. I appreciate that you enjoy the channel. If you are on Facebook or Instagram, I share a lot of extra information. It's a great resource. Resources to research: explore literary magazines and websites. My blog is very helpful, it has infographics too: www.dimitrireyespoet.com/blog/ Poetry Foundation: www.poetryfoundation.org/ Academy of American Poets: poets.org Some other vids of mine: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pauWXmihntegh7M kzbin.info/www/bejne/foaWpZ-LZbx-nNE I look forward to your response.

Best tip is, "read poetry for fuck sake" Every genre writers will read more except poets. If you don't like that type of poetry. Then read different type. Just keep reading. That's how u inspire and write.
@Dimitri Reyes Poet. he has many stage names. MILO. Scallops hotel. And Rap Ferreira. Other names out there i don't know.

I'm a new writer, I want to write poems, and the only poets i'm quite exposed to are emily dickinson, john donne, some of robert frost's, and a lot of instapoetry......
@DimitriReyesPoet4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for writing and I'm glad you started. The great thing is you're in a position a lot of other writers are in when they start out. Meaning that you're learning about poetry from Instagram because it's what you have easy access to and you're learning from historical poetry because it's what is taught in our schools. I have a few things that'll help: First, in the beginning of February I'll be reading several selections from poetry books in my collection. The poems that'll be featured were from this video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWq8h2OplKp9Z7c Additionally, I have two other videos that can assist you. The first speaks about 6 different resources to get free poetry material: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGqUgHdtoMhoe5o The second explains why you should begin building your own collection of books: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIrSYo2trrOHp7M Happy writing and discovering!

Write first. Edit second.
@DimitriReyesPoet6 жыл бұрын
Great tip! This is another one that many people follow. I try to do so as well but I could be a bit haphazard with the way I write poems. One of the reasons I like writing poems on the computer is because I am constantly editing myself (which could be a gift and a curse.) Sometimes that leaves me stuck on a poem for a real long time. Other times, editing while I write expands my narrative. Either way, one ABSOLUTELY wants to get all of their ideas down ASAP. Don't start to edit if you still have other things you'd like to get down. Do so before you lose that thought forever! I've done that too!
