She demonstrates that chess is a fun game, even if you lose and that you can learn from the process. 4. She doesn't look so serious and spend all her time criticizing others, she doesn't dwell on drama . . . unless it's some game drama in the moment.

Anna: "Don't you even play chess to have fun?" Dina: Angry sarcastic staring and avoids the question. THIS! This right here is why I vehemently dislike Dina and Gotham and most of the other big chess youtubers, but I like Anna. Unlike them, Anna though she does compete, she still plays to have FUN. Almost as if it's a game or something. None of these other people seem to have any fun or really any creativity when it comes to chess. Anna made the cow opening and a lot of them hate it and talk crap about it. Why? Because it goes against the fundamentals. So do tons of other strategies! Who cares? Just because they want to play the same dozen or so opening strategies over and over again, doesn't mean everybody else has to or even wants to. Spice it up. Try new things. Throw a little chaos into the mix. Oh yeah and above all HAVE FUN.

what are you talking about have you seen her in the tournaments. No one thinks as long as her, no one loses on time more.
@jasperchappel9379Ай бұрын
I mean I think part of people disliking the cow is that people playing tournaments often aim to win cash prizes and want to improve their rating. Playing theory and prepping is a big part of that, so when a player comes in with an opening they've never studied and has less tactical advantage, it feels like the fun is taken out of it and their hard work is not taken seriously. If they can't study it and it's not very advantageous then it's not the type of thing to take to a tournament, which is why Anna doesn't play it herself. It's a different kind of fun that comes from playing the game in a highly intellectual way instead of to mess around, when you bring a wild card into a battle of wits and it's not even a particularly challenging one, people feel disrespected

You handled yourself so well during this interaction with Dina. You kept things very friendly, yet didn't get intimidated. Dina took this so seriously, and she was still feeling tilted that she didn't beat you on your OTB match. Her position on The Cow in my opinion is inaccurate. LOL the cow is OBVIOUSLY a joke. It's not a real opening, for a beginner or anyone else. Maybe a very strong GM could 'pull it off' and still win DESPITE playing this fake opening. But it's not helping anyone, it just loses momentum by using 4 turns instead of 2 to move knights to a kind of weird position, it's a net negative. I guess it can force someone to really play fully themselves without any theory (theory is the predictable sequences of moves that happen within a classic opening sequence), but that's just about it...

The idea behind the cow is noble, and worth defending. Theory can be intimidating, and having a nice simple system makes it less intimidating. Besides, the point is to illustrate that openings doesnt **have** to be hard. Even if someone never plays the cow, it still helps break down that barrier. Also, if it pisses off the chess snobs, that's just an added bonus.

Prob we can play any opening with no detrimental effects if we stay objective and continue to ask questions and not try to insist to be dogmatic. I think there is common ground between you two guys to come to an understanding.

Funny, but the Cow opening was the first one I learned. I'm 59 and have played more chess in the last two months than I have previously in life. It's fun to learn any opening, maybe in time I will learn more and this will seem too simple. But I can imagine average school children being introduced to chess all over the world and learning the Cow opening as part of their first lessons. The Cow is easy to learn, fundamentally sound (at least for beginners) and teaches the basic concepts of chess such as engaging your minor pieces and getting settled towards the middle of the board. I find it amazing that Anna created this and am grateful that my son told me about it. Feels like a new golden era of chess with Anna, Gotham, Magnus, Nepo, Hikaru, Gukesh and so many others. I started playing chess bc of your videos Anna!! I am mid-life adult woman, and chess has absolutely never seemed fun until I stumbled across your videos on KZbin. I love your attitude and seeing your beautiful relationship with your mom, you make chess seem like fun puzzles. I have a very intellectually demanding job (professor) and chess has never seemed worth the effort. It has always seemed to be permeated by bad attitudes of insecure people trying to one up each other and prove they are smarter, etc etc; exactly the type of attitude this woman has. She’s an awful person, it doesn’t matter at all how good at chess she is. She should reevaluate her priorities and think a little bit harder about what it means to live a good life. Keep being you!!
@juliel24885 ай бұрын
I liked the first half of this comment but how can you judge someone for being an awful person due to one video? I know she cheated once, which I wish she could apologize for to the guy, but one action does not really make you a bad person, and trying to be intimidating is just a persona she has for fun, also it can help with the psychology to win chess games (which even Magnus uses). But I do think she also just is taking these games very seriously since she didn't go to the closing cermony due to a loss. She is much better too, so it hurts when losing or drawing to people rated below you like Anna and Alex. It's just competition.

The way Anna introduce chess to people is new and inventing. She is a very good ambasadour for the game and helping to spread it a lot to so many. Chess need more of such openminded and freespoken outgoing profiles as Anna Cramling are for to get more attension in the world.

I not only started playing chess again because of Anna’s channel but I also started watching Dina , Gotham, the Botox sisters and a few other chess content channels. Well done Anna. Her Joy, Positivity and Happiness is infectious. Moooo if you like the fact she had the courage to attempt to invent a new opening. Maybe not ideal but got the chess community talking. It also is an easy opening for beginners. Touché Dina
