Hi Dindi! I was 16 years old at pinagpuyatan namin ng Ate ko ang 1993 "Pearl" edition (30th year, 29th edition) BBP sa GMA. I even recorded it on VHS back then. When you won BBPUNIV, my sister and I were very much satisfied. I even recall your send-off interview sa TV Patrol (you were at NAIA wearing the generic "Philippines" sash provided by BPCI) and we were really rooting for you. This is a very rare interview of an iconic and timeless beauty queen.Her journey was never been easy,the moment she mentioned that she didnt have the support of her fellowmen since most of the Filipinos wanted to sent a different and much deserving candidate to the Miss Universe finals in Mexico,she felt so bad about how she was treated by the bashers,it was really affecting her performance.It was so disheartening to know that even then,the world’s greatest haters/bashers are the Filipinos.I guess it is really part of our Filipino culture as to why we always hurt people emotionally.Maybe the reason why she won Bb.Pilipinas-Universe over anyone else in that contest,is because of her deep and sensible heart.She was destined to win.And to all her haters,theres nothing you can do,time has passed and it can never be retrieved.

Adam, before this interview will be completed, we thank you for giving us Ms Dindi in a rare interview of her MU93 journey, at least we were able to hear her side after 31 long years-fair enough. Takeaway, intensive training + positive mindset + Filipino people support that time could have been Dindi's stronger edge to make it to the first cut. I vividly remembered she quietly and simply left for Mexico in her simple basic outfit wearing our PH banner and had just a very single quick interview of ABS CBN Starnews segment for TV Patrol at NAIA. Just a thought, thanks and God bless us all.

During the 90s, Miss Universe preliminaries was scored (1.0-9.99).while Miss World preliminaries is Ballot System (the preliminary judges MARK THEIR BALLOT 10 girls they like, then all the ballots are counted, just like how we vote in the senatorial election, in the finals night the judges again vote 5 girls to move in the top 5, and after the top 5 interview they RANK the girls according to who they feel should be the next Miss World (10 pts winner, 9 pts second, 8 pts 3rd etc..). So Miss World isn't scored unlike Miss Universe, plus they have a different taste in beauty and have different set of judges

Just some random thoughts and realizations: A. The side story about Mme Stella!!! Big WOW! If memory serves, I think many pageant fans thought and spoke ill of her during the dark days of Phl at MU! All the while she has been mothering our queens en route and during their competitions! Moral lesson: we should be more cautious about what people say or perceive about someone, no matter the extent or popularity of such perception and opinions. B. The internet was just getting a foothold when Dindi competed. If there was already socmed and vlogs then, maybe the experience would have been more difficult for her. Another moral lesson: we should be more mindful of the things we say and post about our queens, once they are crowned and already in international competition.. C. Dindi's experience could be applicable to all our queens, across the years. They have my newfound admiration, after hearing dindi's story. It's almost unthinkable, the things that our queens had to go through just to represent the country abroad. D. Can't wait for Part 2, Adam! 💙💛❤️

Okay, back in 1993 kakaacquire pa lang ng Bb. Pilipinas ng Miss World. Before, galing sa Mutya ng Pilipinas ang representative naten for Miss World. And that time wala pa tayong Miss World winner. Ang goal ng Bb. Pilipinas is makuha and Miss World crown. Kaya ang strategy was to send the best girl sa Miss World. That's why Binibini chose Ruffa to be a Bb. Pilipinas World. it's been a long time to see dindi in a one-on-one interview (with adam) specifically about a beauty pageant held "eons ago" 1st off, that ruffa-dindi rivalry was already heralded as a "talk of the town" item leading to the coronation -- it was sort of a 2-cornered fight though dindi fumbled in the q&a, her other interviews from various media were already evident of how fluent she was (especially during some candid interviews where her conversant self would shine prominently) 2nd, had ruffa represented MU '93, i wouldn't think she could outshine milka chulina (venezuela), let alone, dayanara torres (puerto rico) ... but who knows?? [ btw, milka was my top bet that year, 2nd was obviously, dayanara ] finally, this is one great interview that has a bit of a "cinematic feel" to it (i.e. the slow zooming in of the interviewee's face) and extracted emotional perspective from dindi about the girls "walking out" during the registration, the "sublime" ruffa-dindi duel and and the "nonchalant treatment" of dindi's departure to mexico (made worse by media bashing against dindi and in favor of ruffa)

Enough for all those reasons. If you really got it, you got it. I like Dindi and she is really beautiful when she competed but she really messed up with Q and A. Nerves is fine. Being nervous is fine. But if you really smart enough to answer a question and can manage to compose yourself you will end up doing great. She is really not that smart enough and I can say not yet ready that time? You need the learn how to work under pressure when joining pageantry coz if not you will just embarrass yourself to the entire nation. It's not just beauty. It's brainy too. 101% confidence is a MUST. Janina San Miguel might not be smart enough when she joined. But she has the confidence and managed to control those situation she had. Even managed to deliver an answer

All these years of MU competitions, am still in doubt that any language or dialect shall bring you up to the top of MU. Unfortunately, English Language is the common language of communication around the world. In the international stage, confidently English speaker candidates have a huge chance to land on the top. This is the truth… and Philippines in advantage having English as a second language. The other thing, hope DepEd shall implement again Spanish Language as part of Education Curriculum.
