More than two decades later, Ruffa Gutierrez still remains the most beautiful woman as she has been since the day she was crowned Bb. Pilipinas World thirty one years ago. As time flies, she continues to defy the rules of aging to a whole level and earn our respect with her genuine love for life and her desire to always become a better version of herself. In fact, she has remained busy and relevant in the world of entertainment while being on top finishing her masteral degree. But it is her iconic pageant journey which has endeared her to the masa, which she considers the best era of her life. The Miss World is the hardest crown to win especially for a Filipina. She placed at Miss World on her own merit, no sash factor, no fan votes, no social media, and no beauty camp.

According to pageant insiders, especially Latino journalist Julio Rodriguez Matute who wrote a lengthy article about this event, Miss Philippines Ruffa Gutierrez received the highest votes from the judges in the final voting ( 7 out of the 11 judges voted for her in first place). Several members of the judging panel like Vanessa Williams and Jackie Chan testified about this after the pageant. However Eric Morley announced earlier that year that they are looking for a black queen that time, to help Miss World organization with their activities in south africa until 1995. That's why the organizers of Miss South Africa crowned a black winner for the first time in history because they are aware as host country. Also, rumors about Ruffa being involved in the Brunei Beauty scandal back in 1992 likely reached the Miss World organizers, so Eric Morley demoted her to third place that night despite the judges decision. Miss world is a private brand owned by the Morley family, and they have the power to revoke the judges decision if necessary. Eric Morley always has the FINAL SAY who will win the crown

I cannot forget her back in the 90's when I was working as a server at TGI Fridays at Glorietta. We were starstruck with her beauty and personality but she was really approachable, charming and warm. And she became my instant favorite among other young actresses at that time and would always look forward to serve her. She was a good tipper also. I know for the fact that the Miss World was new back then and Philippines was promoting it and wanted to get a MW crown. But for me, Bb Pilipinas should’ve sent her for the Miss Universe pageant during her time instead of Gallardo. She would’ve slayed it and would’ve brought us the third MU Crown.

You know for a fact that Miss world was new back then? Well in fact Miss world was even older than Miss Universe. The fact was BPCI just acquired the franchise the year previous to Ruffa joining. The franchise was with Mutya ng Pilipinas before it went to BPCI in 1992. But its a fact that Miss World isn’t new then.

Ruffa is by far more intellectual, articulate & confident than Dindi Gallardo. I think, Ruffa should have been sent to the Miss Universe competition back then as she has a stronger chance of winning the crown without a doubt. Ruffa & Pia are both actors yet Ruffa is way smarter than Pia for winning a beauty title at such tender age of 18. I've watched Pia hosting a pageant show on KZbin, she was using the words 'NEXT STOP' constantly which were overused words unable to break the monotony of it all.

You forgot asking her why she declined to represent Philippines in Miss Universe 1998 when she was offered by Madam Stella...I remember watching her interview that she was offered when The Bb Pilipinas Universe then was disqualified and instead she gave Jewel Mae Lobaton the chance...I thoroughly remembered it in one of her interviews in GMA7 she said she was offered and approached by Madam Stella and she said she's happy with her Ms World journey and she wanted to give the chance to other girls...But I believe during 1998 she's bloomed to perfection and so much ready for the Universe at 24 yrs old....Ruffa is like the Catriona Gray of the 90s...She was the drought breaker when no one else was making it to the international scene in the 90s...plus Ms World came to our radar....she made and gave Miss World title/franchise the popularity and the fame it has today....and for that I always believe, Ruffa was the top winner of Binibiling Pilipinas 1993....but it was her destiny that drove her to the World crown.... :)

totoo yung sinabi nya.. INABANGAN TALAGA NG BUONG PILIPINAS ANG MISS WORLD 1993 BECAUSE OF RUFFA. so lahat nakatutok sa RPN9. it was a Sunday morning if I am not mistaken at lumong lumo ang mga Pilipino sa hindi nya pagkapanalo ng main crown. talaga naman lalo pang sumikat si ruffa g. simula noon. at sumikat din sa bansa natin ang mw pageant dahil sa kanya.
