Funny how he didn’t attack Arin/Suzy or the Grumps at all, and merely spoke about the game itself. Dude even called them “bold” and wished them well for taking that chance on publishing it. If this really did cause them being barred from recording in the Grumps studio, then it’s clear to say that DD hit it on the head and is spitting facts.

It's very vague, but Oneyplays leaving the GG office is unrelated to Dream Daddy. I'm fairly sure (but take it with a grain of salt because this stuff gets far too conspiracy-like in the Game Grumps community sphere), it was purely something between Oney and Arin. The srPelo twitter thing was after and Oney had already cut ties with Arin in his response, saying: "Don't let someone bully you out of your sense of humor just because they lost theirs." Not sure what exactly happened between them, we may never know.

Regardless of the critique presented, Ding Dong articulated himself very well. I felt he was kind and considerate in still supporting GG despite his views, but did not undermine his own points against Dream Daddy. While the internet thrives off of sensationalist vitriol, it's nice to someone who's actually composed and honest once in a while. Also, his advice on writing a gay (or any character is golden. Write someone as a character that happens to be ___, not a '___ character'.
@joeymeyer69565 жыл бұрын
Trashy Poss I loved that as well. People have told me the same advice about trying not to marginalize or demean people with social and developmental disorders. I agree completely with Dingdong. It's a game made only with the intent of making money. The developers say that it "got heart", but why does it have all the elements of a calculated, corporate cop-out? Was the original intent to make a serious dating sim? That would be the WORST IDEA EVER. All the marketing they got comes from Game Grumps. Game grumps has nothing to do with lgbt. They are known for comedy. To make a dating sim PARODY would fit the narrative of Game Grumps. To make a serious dating sim is off-brand and weird. But to make it about lgbt just makes it so.... calculated and pandering. They know that it will sell, because people see the title and expect a parody (coming from a GG association). But when it's a serious dating sim they don't risk offending the lgbt community. And any criticism is anti-gay propaganda. Win win situation. And they can say that "the game has nothing to do with Game Grumps" all they want. The game wouldn't have an ounce of attention if they didn't market it through the Game Grumps plattform. The game might not be ABOUT the game grumps, but that's where the players comes from and they expect something in a similar fashion. If you want to pander, why not pander to those fans instead? Respect the plattform that gives you free marketing to millions of people. The fans of said plattform should be top priority, not the potential backlash from different communities.

To me, it's more the idea that so many of us in the community had to or still have to suppress who we are for so long and your exposure to gay culture is all stereotypes, so when that small modicum of freedom happens, many have no idea what the actual community is like, so in order to feel more assimilated many will ape these characteristics as depicted in media, at least that's a hypothesis I've arrived at. I'm a big gay dude and I don't come off as so because of my dull baritone voice and how little I react to stuff like male strippers or other displays at gay bars(I'm mostly asexual now too), I can appreciate it, it's fun for many and I enjoy the fact that it is because we all need de-stressers, but the effect is lost on me. Honestly, I think that the whole "being gay being your identity" is wildly overblown, I don't think it occurs as much, and from what I've seen its mostly the ones new to the scene, getting that first taste of freedom and just trying to fit in, kind of like when someone starts at a new church and pretends to have their mind blown by the priest telling a joke mid-sermon that they got from some chain letter.

You realize that the topic was how thanks to oppression and being forced to hide who they are many people do go a bit ham on the "gay" personality. This just reminds me of Yoko Taro's comments on Kaine. If I remember correctly, when discussing Kaine's intersexuality he said something along the lines people don't go around knowing what other people are when it comes to terms of sexuality. They are not an obvious thing like the clothes we wear. People aren't defined by these things, they are simply a part of a person's being. This always rung true with me. So much effort is put into Kaine and whether you love the game of Nier or not I find Kaine's characterisation to be very well done. It informs who she is and her decisions but is far beyond what makes her interesting. If she were a character done nowadays it would be so overt that she is intersex she'd become a parody of who she is. The irony is astounding.

I didn't exactly understand the controversy at first but that's because I literally DID think it was a joke game because the way they presented it made it seem like it would be a light-hearted comedic type of dating simulator, the last thing I thought it would turn out to be is an attempt to actually support the LGBT community And what I especially do not understand is how this honest criticism and honest expression of beliefs is what led to any drama in the first place Frankly this is all pathetic and childish of the Grumps though I'd never expect an apology from the likes of them at this point Especially since Oney and co. have basically given up on making amends with these evidently insensitive people This is just ironic considering the recent drama involving Sr Pelo and Arin over the whole story time animators discussion, because even when they try to make an actual effort at doing something right in the interests of other people, it really only turns out to be in their OWN interests Arin literally just made it about himself and used that as a basis for the drama, not even considering any of the legitimacy of the opinions expressed in Pelo's video nor the obviously satirical aspects shown throughout -- not even acknowledging the fact that several of those animators helped in making that same video in the first place I don't hate the Grumps but I fail to respect them after the shit they've done thus far

I’m gonna be completely honest I really thought Dream Daddy was a joke game and I played the game all the way through and still thought it was a fun joke game that was parodying all “graphic novel” (sorry I can’t think of anything else to call it) games such as Hunnypop, Sakura Spirit (which the Grumps played, and all the other Japanese Games of the same nature. Every character is supposed to be a Hyperbole of a stereotype Robert is the tough guy, Damian is the Vampire, and Craig was the Workout Junkee. Each character did have this moment where somthing differed from the norm Damian worked at an Adoption Center, The Teacher whose name I cant remember was a wrestler, and Robert was a Romantic. I mean for Pete sake there is a seen where you pull out a book and it’s a Naruto Fanfiction. I don’t see how this game could be taken as anything, but a long joke. I even found myself chuckling at some of the mini games and how you Built Your Dad. Sure there are serious moments in the game that were heartwarming, but it didn’t warrant the game to be taken 100% seriously. I’m kind of shocked and a little disappointed to hear that the folks that made the game (whether it was the development staff or if the Game Grumps crew themselves had a part to play in this) thought that this game would be taken as a 100% seriously title. Also I don’t think this was the reason that Ding Dong and Jullian left LA you can tell through OneyPlays that they just hated California in general this is just a coincidence and that’s about it.

What upsets me the most is the hate DD got for this. It just shows you can't freely speak your mind anywhere on the internet without being attacked by overzealous users who REALLY need to take a minute or two to consider both sides of the story.

I'm queer, and I do like Dream Daddy... but mostly for the characters.. I kinda feel bad for liking it now. It's stupid, I know, but still.

You get to have your own opinions like anyone else. Don't feel bad if you like it. You can like it on your terms as someone else dislikes it on their terms.

Ding Dong: "Guess what, sexuality is not a visible characteristic, you can know someone who's gay and probably not know they're gay for years and years becuse guess what, it's sexuality, it doesn't come up all the time, it's not something transparent that get's waved around 24/7, and if it is, that means that you probably don't have much going on for you as an actual person to begin with." I just want to emphasize the poetry of how DD says this in a time where people come to his stream just realizing "Wait, you're gay?" after watching his stuff for a long time, he's the best proof of what he's talking about at that moment, it's sad to see what happened after all he was guilty of was telling the truth.

As a gay dude, I seriously can’t stand when people consolidate my sexuality into a fucking marketing tactic. That love simon movie that came out earlier this year came off as nothing but that to me. It’s the same thing that ghosybusters movie did to women. I absolutely hate how dream daddy presents itself as some amazing progressive movement when it’s a completely exploitative experience. I also have had to experience this both with people percieving me as straight and as gay (I came out this year), and it is so insulting that people can’t understand this shit.

I'm not gay or LGBT but "gay pride inclusion" movements from businesses always bugged the fuck out of me because not only is it exploitative (they don't give a fuck about gay people) it only further isolates people based on their humanity by putting them into a box. They are actual people with their own interests, hobbies, and personalities, why does their sexuality matter? "It's because it stands up against homophobia" why can't instances of homophobia be sought out and eradicated when they occur, and previous injustices in the past be recognised?

I like how Mr. PhD and the Goose understood everything the wrong way on purpose. Literally a carbon copy reply of "How dare u, the dev team worked real hard! >:U". Well duh, the cash-grab intention usually doesn't lie within the goddamn visual artists or programmers tryna earn their money but from the higher-ups. You'd think that's a fucking no-brainer. I'm used to that from Suzy but Brian? Come on.

I think Brian's an asshole. His humor seems abusive. I remember seeing some video of Chris hanging out with the Grumps crew, and Brian basically bullied him into trying to bite some apple with his hands behind his back, even though Chris was dragging his heels and didn't really want to. Not the worst thing in the world, but I can't stand people like that.

I played through about 2 hours of Dream Daddy... it was OK. Some of the VA and writing was subpar. One of the VA sounded like he recorded his lines in an echoey bathroom.

The thing as a gay guy I completely agree with DD here, dream daddy wasn’t made for gay people it was made for stereotypes and probably straight women to go “🥺🥺 so hot!!” Like dude I don’t want my sexuality to be this huge thing. I’m just a dude I’m not to be used I just want to be treated like any one else I want to be seen as human not “oh you’re gay! What’s your opinion on ____? Do you find ____ hot?” I just want to be human

It seems like Ding Dong has an issue mostly with how Vernon has handled the entire project. I am under the impression Vernon is also gay? Which if that's the case, then thats even worse if someone part of the lgbt community is actively just trying to cash in on something they are a part of. There's so much exploitation of gay/lesbian/etc. stuff in media and that really bothers me if he's just doing exactly that. This is amusing in hindsight considering the game got delayed, because that made it obvious there was more than one thing wrong with how this game was handled.

25:25 exactly right. I've told many friends that I was gay in passing and they were completely taken aback. same thing as to when I lost my virginity. My lack of experience in the bedroom and my feelings for the same sex were completely aside from the friendship I had with many people- so when they learned I was a certain way, they took it at face value and I remained friends. at least, I have GOOD friends, so they kept treating me the same way.
