Scotrail 158704 stuck at Dingwall's number 2 level crossing after the barriers failed to lower. The train then proceeds with caution. 158704 working the 1512 Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness. 26/04/20

WOW! This is so impressive, never seen a train go that slow before. Did you report the fault to Network Rail or do you think they were made aware when the driver stopped at the level crossing? Apparently this isn't the only fault, have noticed the occasional tweet from Stagecoach announcing their buses get stuck at Ardrossan because the level crossing barriers are stuck down. Just hope Network Rail get their fingers out and fix these faults.

The driver would have had to. The train would have only been allowed to proceed once they had permission to go. I did see this happen once at Dingwall No1 when I was younger. The crossing lights and alarms continued to flash and sound even after the train had passed. And there was a time last year when this happened at this crossing and network rail had to do multiple test runs to fix the crossing as the barrier had failed then.

Great video. I've seen that happen at Kirkton and Halkirk level crossings. It's not a good thing

These crossings are meant to fail in a safe way. It should be only the odd occasion something like this happens. At least the lights and sirens were going. It's not fully safe but it does mean there's some warning.

They fault will have been reported to Network Rail who should send an engineer to fix them. The train driver will have had permission to proceed slowly over the crossing. Thankfully they didn't get stuck while they were down lol

@@FarmingScotland i think this crossing should have been upgraded along with other two. The one on Craig Road isnt busy enough to be fully barriered but this one is

they are timed, they only need to go while the start of the train is on the crossing

@BRLevelCrossingsAndMoreUK I think you're misunderstanding me, they SHOULD be on for the entire time the train passes, but it's only a requirement that they sound when the front of the train initially passes the crossing.

@@xaiano794 it’s the type of crossing (AOCL + B). It’s an ex AOCL, if it’s an AHB or an ABCL (or AFBCLs as seen on that line) the alarms remain on until the lights turn off. But on that one the barriers were added to the old setup.

It has to it's called "processing with danger" no matter if it was an AOCL before

@@WMRailSpotter proceeding with caution, and usually drivers go extra slow because they are worried about road users doing something foolish
