This is such a well directed and acted scene. It’s only 9 minutes but you can feel the tension building throughout and it feels so much longer. Aside from the great acting from Adam Scott and Jon Hamm, we see every character’s reactions and doubt about their own decisions when it comes to their relationships and parenting skills. I love how Ben's such a despicable person in this scene, but later while apologizing he says the most sensible quote of the entire movie. Or maybe it's sensible to me because my relationship has things in common with Jason and Julie's (we're mostly best friends who learnt how to make it work without feeling like we have an extra limb). Anyway, I think the fact we can see such different sides or shades of a character is thanks to Jon's incredible talent.

I don’t know if Megan Foxx or the director choose this little detail for her character but just look 2:25 how she is holding the fork in contrary to him. She comes from a different social-economic background but since she is an atractive and younger woman that is the only thing his character cares about. Not about if they have the same values about life or social-economic perspective. Furthermore, if you have watched the full film you know that this comes to bit him in the end. Very interesting

I love this scene! I completely understand Ben but also Jase and Julie. As a mom who could've chosen to be, deal, and potentially marry my daughters dad I'm so glad I didn't. We haven't been together since she was 2. She's 6 now and has never asked about our relationship though I know it'll probably come eventually. She loves her step mom(he married when she was 5 and she's been in her life since she was 3) and when she does ask about another sibling(from me) we talk about me loving someone enough for that. I mean we had a good hour long conversation about it and she's 6! So from this scene you can't just assume that your kid will be negatively affected because they live in a 2 parent home. I love her dad and he will forever be someone I care about and love and I feel that my daughter can see that from the both of us without any explanation even when we go through our "moments" lol. We always strive to put her first and I couldn't be more grateful.

I've watched some reviews on this movie and all I heard was that this movie sucked. "The plot is stupid". .... . Yea, no shit it's stupid, that's why this movie works. The movie knows that the plot is stupid. This is a good movie that shows what happens with relationships after kids. Trying that move they did, is dumb and the movie with everyone in it, knows that.
@buxxi905 жыл бұрын
I actually haven't read any reviews saying "the plot is stupid". Not saying that the reviews were great, but "stupid plot" wasn't even in the top 10 of common criticisms. I think the idea behind the movie was pretty good for a movie like this, but that it wasn't executed too well and hit an odd middle between being a drama or a romcom. All in all, though, I like that movies like these are exploring and questioning traditional family values. The core messages behind this scene being: 1) Don't have kids with someone if your main connection to your partner is sex. 2) Children will benefit from their parents really knowing, respecting and loving each other before they are starting a family, preferably for many years, no matter the romantic circumstances. No rush. 3) Kids are able to understand more than they are being credited for. 4) Just because a family model is well established, doesn't mean it's automatically a good fit for every individual person or couple out there, and that it can't hurt to question these things in your own context. If you're a stable, good couple, putting that question out there will only reinforce your relationship, as you can see with the non-arguing couple here, Alex and Leslie. If you're not and you've realized that early enough, at least you don't end up making a massive mistake like the sex couple Ben and Missy here and have children with and therefore a permanent commitment to a person you hate. I don't see anything wrong with those messages and actually like that more and more movies are putting these thoughts out there.
