The first season is hit and miss and then it's gold. This scene - and the great line, "god damn, woman, you only shoot people when they're eatin' supper?" - stuck with me through the show's off season. Then, season 2 just HOOKED me. The pilot was aired to a test audience before the show got greenlit for more episodes to be produced, and Boyd ended up getting positive feedback as the best baddie of the show. This was the first episode I watched and this was the exact scene that hooked me into every single episode after it. You know, if Boyd actually planned to shoot Raylan, he should have had that 1911 COCKED instead of having the hammer down. If he had a round chambered, he could have thumbed the hammer back, but if he did not have a round chambered, he would have had to rack the slide. If you have to rack the slide in a gun fight, you will probably spend the rest of your life doing it.
@Seriona12 жыл бұрын
No TV show or movie will ever get firearms right because most of them are too cheap to use real firearms with blanks or some kind of safe way to chamber to reflect realism. His best case was that the 1911 was armed but he dropped the hammer and some people out there don't trust the 1911 safety which I personally don't get so they drop the hammer.

@@Seriona1 when they're almost all f wits like Alec Baldwin do you really want them using real firearms?
@Seriona12 жыл бұрын
@@chriscormac231 The issue between the two isn't real firearms, it's just lack of training with dumbassery backed by politics. Alec's case the fault comes down to two people, the person who loaded that pistol with real ammo and Alec's retarded ass who thought he was invincible from firearm accidents because he thinks liberalism negates that. Many movies before have used real firearms with blanks or at the very least, give some training with real firearms to try and make it look as real as possible. Shit, some movies I can tell you had actors actually fire live ammo on camera against targets hidden in the background just to make it look that real.

Nor do I think he wanted Boyd to grab the .45, or for Ava to show up with the shotgun. I think Ava kinda forced his hand. Although, of course, in a practical sense, Boyd forced the situation by showing up to Ava’s house unannounced and armed, but that’s besides the point I am making :)

After all the forces of the hand boyd had pulled from the 24 hour warning to showing up at Ava's and so on....he wouldn't have shot unless boyd pulled on him My interpretation is Ava forces their hands, boyd realizes the threat isn't raylan it's her...raylan realizes the same...but did raylan only shoot him to keep Ava from cutting him in half and him from shooting Ava? True....but, in North Florida it is still called the dinner table unless supper is being served. Sixed generation North Floridian.

Looks like a 1911 but, I thought Raylen carried a Glock 21 as his main squeeze throughout the series. I know his back up was a Glock 26.

In real life if someone gets hit in the chest with a .45 at that range at that spot you wouldn't have much more than a few minutes to live let alone enough time for EMS to arrive.

You might want to look up the name David Sweat. He was the prison escapee made famous a couple years back, he and another guy broke out of Dannemora prison here in NY about an hour from me, big manhunt, made into a mini-series, all that. Sweat was running and a NYS Trooper shot him, twice, with his Glock .45, it's what the Troopers carried at the time, two bullets, through the back and out the chest, one of them almost dead center (I've seen the photos from the scene), Sweat is still alive in prison. Damn shame.

@@Bayan1905 yeah that's actually incorrect. He was shot in the right shoulder and left arm at about 75 yards. Generally the .45 Auto max effective range is around 50 m.... However in this case it was .45 Gap rounds. So may have been on the lower side of that depending on the round. Not to mention he was using hollow points which generally will lead to less effective penetration at longer distances. Especially with the .45 round. Definitely a far cry from taking a 230 grain hollow point (which I assume that's what Raylan would have been carrying) point blank center Mass.

@@napalmstickylikeglue Strange things happen. I've spoken with a former soldier in the Balkans conflict who was hit by six or seven rounds of 5.45x39 to the chest, and he survived. Sometimes the difference between life and death is a millimetre here or there, or just plain old luck.
@napalmstickylikeglue3 жыл бұрын
@@pappy374 absolutely.. there is definitely a chance from individual surviving gunshot wounds. But in this situation it would be highly unlikely.

@@napalmstickylikeglue The interesting part about this scene is that Boyd was originally going to die, but the test audiences liked Walton Goggins's portrayal so much that they kept him alive.
