Sakuraco offers nice things but even with a yearly subscription shipping is still 30% of my cost and that's not acceptable to me. I want products and not subsidise post companies. Same thing when donating money, I don't want to give 30 out of 100 bucks to Google instead of e.g. sharla.

As an English guy married to a Quebecois living in Canada I can recommend the following foods and experiences: Tim horton, Krispy Kreme donuts, Poutine, gourmet burgers, steak house, beaver tails, 2 bite brownies, drive 50KM+ into the country side/forest to see all the beauty, experience just how dark it is a night which is something you can't really appreciate in the UK, Canadian breakfast, Canadian pancakes with proper maple syrup, a NHL game, lobster, fondue. There may be many more but that is just what I can think of at the moment. Enjoy your stay in Canada.

It is so much fun to share holiday traditions with folks from other countries and cultures. I hope you guys get to blend your traditions for many years to come. A couple of years ago I got two gingerbread house kits for my sons and me to put together after dinner and at some point I thought it would be funny to make a two story strip club. My sons (they are both grown) we’re a little apprehensive at first but it didn’t take them long to get into it. That is one of my favorite holiday activities we’ve done in a long time. *Smoked salmon!* 🇨🇦 Ideally on a good bagel with cream cheese and all the happy little garnishes. Obviously you can go out for it, but it’s kinda fun to assemble at home with the family. Makes for a fancy easy cold brunch during the holidays. If you guys are where I think you are, there is a shockingly good Montreal-style bagel shop in your area; the name is a dead giveaway, should come up really fast in local search results. They make their own cream cheese in-house. That’s the best of west coast and east coast in one meal. (Recommended toppings: capers, red onion, dill, black pepper, whatever you like. Some people like chives, avocado, red pepper flakes, lemon juice, lemon zest, but I think sometimes those can obscure the flavour of the smoked salmon. Nice to have some cucumber slices or mini tomatoes on the side.) Not very on-theme here but I am spiritually obligated to mention it: their cinnamon bagels with the honey vanilla cream cheese are criminally good. IT SHOULD BE A CRIME.

I know a London Fog in the US. I first learned about it when I worked at Starbucks where it's a regular (but not very popular) drink. I think most baristas in the US who also work with teas know what a LF is.

I think unless oysters are commercially-farmed there's a chance of finding a pearl in them. There's not so much sandy sediment in oyster farm tanks. If the oysters are wild-foraged there will be more chance of them getting sand grains in their shells, which is the starting point of a pearl. I always hope to find a pearl when I buy oysters, but I doubt it will ever happen (unless I can befriend a wild oyster forager, of course).

Ooh Sharla I'm getting mad homesick 'cause that's my hometown too, I'm just scouring the background for places I recognize! I even used to work with one of the chefs at that brewpub (not there, tho, at a different job). I'm going home from Japan for Christmas in a little over two weeks, I canNOT wait!
