Or they're the quintessentially nice Canadian that welcomes him warmly in the get-go. Either works to be honest. I just love how relaxed and at ease Chris looked. Despite his slight aversion to cats, Chris exhibits some rather cat-like attitudes and it's a no brainer Sharla took him in.

I got married at the butterfly garden down the road and my last memories of my grandparents are taking them to high tea at the empress hotel. My grandmother was tickled to be at such a fancy place. My grandfather kept asking for more milk to mask the taste of his tea. Happy memories!

Actually the British conversation of it being British actually came from episode 2’s chat on Twitter wherein someone pointed it out to Sharla - as Wikipedia rightly confirms (something even I a Brit didn’t know) that Egg Nog originates from the U.K.

I looked this up on Wikipedia and apparently it was consumed by British aristocracy for toasts until the early 1800s and then made its way across to the US and it became a seasonal drink. So Sharla is probably calling it British because of that but as a Brit myself I can also confirm we don’t have it here and until finding that out I’d always assumed it was an American thing

All my grandparents have passed away, haven’t even talked to my dad in years (and don’t know how to get in touch with him) and my mom lives states away and suffers migraines so she hates talking on the phone. I still have Christmas with my husband and kids, but it’s not quite the same as when you’re young and you’re the one getting presents and someone else is cooking and cleaning up. 😂 More than that, I just miss my grandparents. I’d gladly cook and clean up if only I had one more Christmas with them.

Early 80s (before bags & tissue paper were trending) he would wrap in the most unusual ways. Our church secretary was his Secret Santa person. He wrapped it to look like the engine of a train (complete with cotton puff steam from the stack). It was Marks & Spencer bath stuff in a matching set. Not only a unique wrap but most Canadians born here wouldn't know to shop there. LOL

This feels a bit weird to say, but you have no idea how nice this was to see. You all seem so happy! Holidays with my family were nice enough when I was a kid, but it was rare for us to really laugh and smile too much and it usually ends up feeling more mundane than happy. My dad's been in hospice for a while now and his health has been ailing since well before covid, so the holidays have felt especially downcast the past few years. It's just really nice to see people being outwardly happy even if Chris is a bit curmudgeonly in his affability.

Visiting BOTH sets of parents over the Christmas period is one of the most stressful things a young couple can do, apart from a big family wedding. Been there, done that, many decades ago. Thanks for sharing your family Christmas with us 😄I wasn't expecting to see someplace I'd been! We had a family cruise a few years ago with my mom and Victoria was one of the stops - my brother, spouse, and I walked through the Garden district to walk around downtown, it's such a neat place!
