I repainted my Eofauna Giga, and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I do really like the new Lucas as well, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to justify the 50+ % mark-up on the 'museum' line figures with the only difference over a standard figure being the mountain of extra paper that comes with them.

It is indeed unfortunate that shipping doesn't make things any more pleasant for enthusiasts out of Asia. I do miss the bases, they always elevate the model somehow. @DinosDragons Жыл бұрын
@@theimmortaleye7511 Not at all! I always welcome what my viewers have to say! Europe I hear is especially crazy with the VAT and all. As I recall, Lingwulong isn't a Museum Line, so the 'consolation' is that whatever price you pay, none of it goes to the material that some people don't want to have. The heft of this 1:35 sauropod however, means that yes, it will cost you. That's one reason why PNSO decided to go with 1:45 for its largest animals, like the Mamenchisaurus as well as the large marine animals. I still feel that if they could offer hollow PVC figures like they did originally, that might be a compromise and help save on shipping cost. That said, I believe some shipping systems are pretty cunning. They will either charge by weight or volume, whichever nets them the most money. 😡

I’m pretty sure during the 1990’s the anatomy of carcharodontosaurids weren’t well understood and used other carnosaurs as a point of reference during their initial reconstructions. The outdated skull mount seems to have used Allosaurus as reference, which would explain the sloped jugal bones.
@DinosDragons Жыл бұрын
@Paleo Scinkus Thank you! I think you hit it on the head! It makes perfect sense as Giganotosaurus is an allosauroid as well. I completely overlooked the fact that what we have now isn't what they might have had way back when this was discovered. And I guess once this got started, few manufacturers or artists thought to relook it. Shows how much I pay attention to my theropods! 😪
@paleoscinkus542 Жыл бұрын
@@DinosDragons That would also explain the 14 meter estimates, as Allosaurids have proportionality longer tails for their body size. It’s interesting how as more fossil material for dinosaur groups are found, the smaller it’s member appear to be. Totally off topic, Rebor’s Diplodocus is up for preorder on BigBadToyStore’s site. $69.99 + shipping with a choice of male and female. The really exciting thing is they are in 1/35 scale. They are both a little over 32 inches in length and I’m going to assume Some Assembly Required. The photos provided also show the neck and tail elements to have a high degree of motion for posing possibilities. Sweet Giga! Great review!! 👍🏻👍🏻 Personally I hope they won’t make another Tyrannosaurus and Spinosaurus with the Eofauna and the Mesozoic Life versions on the horizon, respectively. I can’t imagine those two being toppled. Instead, when it comes to their Museum Line (which I hope they would just ditch anyways as they’re unnecessarily more expensive than the prehistoric animal models line) an updated Amargasaurus would be much more needed imo (I see them doing it). There are also tons of exquisitely preserved dinosaurs from their local Jehol Biota they haven’t felt like exploring in much depth, imo those taxa would be much more interesting subject for figures than the fragmentary Zhuchengtyrannus, “Sinopliosaurus”… 😅
@DinosDragons Жыл бұрын
Good point! I'm especially keen to see how the Mesozoic Life Spinosaurus turns out. PNSO is probably taking its time to really study and think about the next version of Wilson. Certainly they've seen enough to give them an idea of what works and what doesn't! Absolutely agree that there are many Chinese dinosaurs just begging for a release. Those would have to be in larger than 1:35 I believe to fully show them in their splendour. I wouldn't mind a different scale for smaller dinosaurs for sure! And how could I forget Amargasaurus! My favourite dinosaur clade are the sauropods, so an update to this dinosaur would be very welcome! Especially since it's a relatively small dicraeosaurid, they have to give it to us in 1:35! 😁

Hello DinosDragons! I have really enjoyed your pnso model reviews. I am starting a collection myself but due to budget and space, I cant really buy alot. Do you have like a top 5-10 reccomended models i should pick? Thank you so much!
@DinosDragons Жыл бұрын
Interesting I've had quite a few similar questions, and I would say that you should first list out your criteria. For example, if you have limited space, how do you envision using it? Do you have size or scale preferences? Would you like to have many small models, or a few large ones? That already helps you factor in cost and prices. Because of limited space, it's better to spend on a few quality ones you really want, which meet most of your criteria, then to spend on lesser ones you will regret later. What are these criteria? For example is scientific accuracy the most important thing to you? That will exclude a lot already and you may have to save up for PNSOs or even Rebor if they continue their current focus. Or do you really want something beautifully sculpted with very high detail? Then you could start to consider Papo at the lower end and Nanmu at the higher end since the scientific accuracy isn't an issue. What price range would be considered acceptable if it meets all your criteria? Last of all, I would advise anyone starting out, not to think in terms of a _collection_ unless it's what you really want. Many of us started buying stuff we liked, and in time, then it became a collection, at the cost of money and space. But many others don't really, and then they have a few precious pieces that take up fewer total space. Starting in terms of buying a few you like instead of getting a collection going means you don't feel like you must fill up a certain quota as well. I don't know how old you are, but many collectors as they get along, get married, have kids, and so on, find that they are forced to prune their collections for most space. It's a very sad process for many, and so it's something worth considering too. Good luck! 😁

@DinosDragons Жыл бұрын
The De Clay Studio T Rex is an example of painting at its finest and most complex, and how a model can be elevated to the heavens because of it. One might argue it's not really _high priced_ but _high value_ because you can see it's worlds apart from what many people are doing. It's the kind of work I wuld buy not to put together with the other 300 dinosaurs, but in a special spot on its own. Especially if you get the 1:35, because there are many other dinosaurs larger. The 1:20 version would be truly a centrepiece work of art, and there's not a chance of it getting lost. I would definitely buy that... if I struck the lottery.

@Tim12021982 Жыл бұрын
PNSO Giganotosaurus is currently the best on the market. Pity that the tail isn't more beefy. I hope for 1:35 Majungasaurus similar to the one from Planet Dinosaur.

Just try to get one from an early run... the earlier the better! Though I hope that for a Museum Line, the quality of paint application wouldn't have deterioriated noticeably yet.

Really wish they would sculpt some more dynamic poses. These all look so similar that it's kind of boring.
@DinosDragons Жыл бұрын
That also is one major factor why I'm a fan of bases. They allow a lot more dynamism without having to resort to clown feet and oodles of unsightly hip bulk.

Good sculpture, don't like too much the paint scheme. Eofauna one at 30 euros is a best deal... Pnso are becoming too expensive...at this price i pretend painting similar to the vitae one which is fantastic
@DinosDragons Жыл бұрын
Yes I believe beyond a certain price range, you have to think whether it would be worth paying an artist to paint a modle exactly the way you want it. Of course if you have the skill, you could even save money and enjoy a lot more!

@@DinosDragons yes but a professional painting has an high price...paintings as rebor models are good for me at the right price... Pnso has good painting but i am tired of usual colours...all brown and flat colour scheme..

When you compared Wilson to Lucas you can quite clearly see giga has a more slender build to deal with faster prey and rex has a bulky muscular build to help deal with large bulky prey

Recent estudies indícate that the Tyrannosaurus rex was a long-distance runner and was also quite agile despite being very robust and massive animal(9-10 tons powerhouse)
@rodrigopinto6676 Жыл бұрын
The T. rex had the ability to kill any herbivore.
@DinosDragons Жыл бұрын
Indeed! Just looking at those massive jaws and comparing it to reconstructions of the Giganotosaurus years ago, it was obvious that length alone wasn't everything. But I guess the public gets fired up with length differences, and so everything else takes on a superlative aura - real or fictional - and then next thing you know, Giganotosaurus is the biggest and baddest.
@rodrigopinto6676 Жыл бұрын
@@DinosDragons T. rex and giga approximately same length but the tyrannosaurus was an absolute Unit(Powerhouse Tank) and more sophisticated animal with much stronger bite with the ears of an owl, the eyes of eagle or sharper, the smell of a vulture and the brain of a primate. That’s INSANE.

@@rodrigoestebanquierofiguer9658 I have no clue what you are talking about but if I am deciphering the gist of your message correctly, you misunderstood my intention. I thought you meant that Giganotosaurus was a big word to pronounce. I replied that I found it harder to pronounce Huehuecanauhtlus and Futalognkosaurus. I see now you meant size. Firstly, if you have a source to quote for your size estimate, I will look it up and check its credibility, and then put it in the description box above. Secondly, you seem to misunderstand that my claim for Tyrannosaurus is based on some kind of national pride and wanting the biggest to be North American. If you have watched my other videos, you will know that my favourite dinosaurs are the sauropods, and especially the titanosaurs, and my favourites are Argentinosaurus and Patagotitan, both of which are proudly South American. I focus on fact and sharing what science I know here without bias or any kind of vested interest. I'm not in the least interested in making this channel a place where non-related, invectives are tossed about, including whether the biggest and baddest are North American, South American, Central, East or West American. Nature doesn't care about such distinctions. Perhaps if we didn't, there would be more peace and less strife in the world. And by the way, I live in Asia.
