I saw Dio at a grocery store back in the 80's in Encino CA. I pulled up behind a Range Rover with a license plate that read "Dio" something. I thought, "That's cool, another Dio fan. Then he hops out of the car and walks into the market. 🤘

Ronnie James Dio wrote this song while in Black Sabbath and was going to use it for the next album before he left, he used it on his first Dio album, this song pathed the genre for power metal

Dio did not just write the lyrics, he wrote the whole song himself including the music, he pretty much always wrote the lyrics to the songs he recorded.

Yes, (the late) Ronnie James Dio wrote all of his lyrics... even in Black Sabbath and Rainbow (When Ronnie joined Black Sabbath, the bassist Geezer Butler was so relieved that he didn't have to write lyrics for the band) ... Ronnie always geared towards dark and heavy topics, many of which targeted religious zealotry and hypocrisy... In fact, 'Holy Diver' was a shot against charlatans who claim divinity and end up dying just like everyone else and abandoning their flock. This was from 1983, the first album 'Holy Diver' by Dio (the band) after Ronnie had left Black Sabbath in 1982... Like 'Eddie the Head' of Iron Maiden, Dio had their mascot 'Murray' who was the figure w/ the horns on his head and big eyes... The cover of 'Holy Diver' showed Murray dropping a priest into a bay in chains ... Ronnie was asked why he had a cover w/ a monster drowning a priest, he replied, "How do u know it's not a priest drowning a monster?" ... Ronnie was raised Catholic and he knew about the Catholic churches abhorrent secrets long before they became public in the 90's. Ronnie James Dio was a phenomenal live vocalist... U can check out clips of Dio performing - "The last in line"... 'Rainbow in the dark' ... 'Egypt (the chains are on)'... Ronnie was a legend in the metal genre, but started out with the band Elf, and then helped Ritchie Blackmore start Rainbow. Then he joined Black Sabbath, replacing Ozzy Osbourne. After two excellent albums with Sabbath, he started his solo band Dio. He was small in stature, but had an incredibly powerful voice! I still morn his passing to this day!!

There's other solo Dio songs like 'Last In Line', 'Rainbow In The Dark', there's 'Heaven & Hell' with Black Sabbath, and before both of them, he was in a band called Rainbow.

Check out Dio with the band Rainbow. There are a bunch of great videos from the 1977 Munich concert worth reacting to. The songs "Mistreated" and "Catch the Rainbow" stand out the most from that concert. Truly magical performances.

Even his earliest days with Ronnie Dio and the Prophets have some great songs, just different from his hard rock persona. The songs "Blue Days, Blue Nights" and "Walking in Different Circles" are very good.

Holy Diver came out in a really good part of the 80s where "HeavyMetal" was still a genre. The whole album is great. As is his 2 best albums as one of the singers for Black Sabbath... "Heaven&Hell Album, and "Mob Rules" Album. Wait til you hear his song "Sign of the Southern Cross" (the STUDIO version), off Mob Rules album 🔥🔥🔥 Dio is a Storyteller, so i assume he wrote his own lyrics?

This song was the title track of Dio's first solo album, which was released in the 80's immediately after he left Black Sabbath. He would return to Sabbath later, after several solo albums, only to leave again. Other songs you should check out from Dio are "Rainbow in the Dark" (from this same album, as was "Don't Talk to Strangers") and "The Last in Line" (the title track of his second solo album). I would also recommend ""Heaven and Hell" from his days in Black Sabbath (among others) and "Stargazer" from his time as the lead singer in the band Rainbow, before he joined Black Sabbath. If you really want an excellent live video, I'd recommend "Mistreated" live from Munich, which is also a Rainbow performance. God bless!!

Fine reaction to a classic! One of the greatest heavy metal song of all times from the greatest heavy metal singer ever! - in my opinion and in many other heavy metal fans' opinions! I know, special effects in this video suck, but those were the 80's! Please, try to pay attention only to his amazing voice and to these amazing lyrics, which always meant to me something like the eternal struggle of good against evil, when there's someone who passes through many difficulties and sacrifies himself in order to defeat evil. And if you want any more suggestions of his great songs to react to, here you are: "Rainbow in the dark"; "The last in line"; "Sacred heart"; "Don't talk to strangers"; "Like the beat of a heart"; and the beautiful but underrated "All the fools sailed away". R.I.P., Dio! 🤘

I listened to this song a few years ago and it's excellent, a curious fact is that he was the lead singer of Black Sabbath before Ozzy, about recommending a song for you Inna, if I can recommend it to you I would recommend Mascara da Pitty, it's an excellent song and I think you'll like it, anyway, continue with the work you're doing and Brazilian greetings to you!
