Discerning priesthood. Thanks for this! 😇 I’m from Houston and all I’ve ever known is diocesan priests. Religious life seems so foreign to me. The closest monastery is hours from me.

Diocesan priests take care of the local community by way of the parish as shepherds of the flock, whereas religious have a call to ministry (usually) outside of a parish life to serve the people in other ways.

Some are both. For example, our parish (Diocesan) priest is also a Benedictine.

Are diocesan priests ordained to distribute the Holy Sacrifice or as "Presidents of Assembly"? If the later, how are any of the sacraments fully consecrated?

I don't think that term makes sense. It's male equivalent would be "diocesan monk", which isn't a thing. Nuns are all members of a religious order.

nuns are under religious orders (from what i understand), since i have an aunt who's a nun from LIHM (Leaven of the Immaculate Heart of Mary). The school where i had my high school years where under the DC (Daughters of Charity), a Vincentian sisters (St. Vincent de Paul). In our neighborhood, there's a monastery for the Augustinian Cloistered nuns.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Diocesan priesthood is not the first form of the Presbyterate but rather the Canons Regular. Communities of Christian Rabbis (teachers) in Jerusalem, Antioch and other places together with other clergy such as Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, Presbyters and Deacons and Readers was the basic form of the Nazarene Jewish Knesset (Church) started by the Shalliah (Apostles) as they were familiar with that. This solidified into the Canons Regular of the various Cathedrals later. Diocesan Secular priests in positions as Parish Priests is a 8th century invention as more and more restrictions came such as no more females and no more married men in the Priesthood especially in the Western Rite. Thus the shortage of priests led to a redistribution of priests to Parishes.

@@thearyamehrrf6886 Ah, sorry. I'm not knowledgeable enough to speak further on this topic. I know enough to know that Dominicans look to St. Thomas Aquinas, whereas Jesuits focus on St. Ignatius of Loyola. You wanted an order that focused on study and teaching, so obviously I'd suggest the Dominicans, but yeah, I think the best thing I can do for you at my level of knowledge, is not speak further, and simply let you do your own research. 👍
