I grew up as a little black boy in Durham, North Carolina in the early 60's listening and loving Dionne Warwick's music. Some blacks thought her music was too white due to their ignorance and jealousy. Ms. Warwick sold over 100 million records and broke the color barrier with her crossover music. Your Kennedy Center Award last December 2023 was long overdue and you should have been recognized long before Diana Ross, Queen Latifah, and others. Dionne Warwick's fan, February 15, 2024.

I grew up a poor white boy in a small town in North Carolina and remember as a 14 year-old being blown away by 'Don't Make Me Over' then again by 'Anyone Who Had A Heart'. Maybe Dionne's music did lean toward a white audience but it certainly helped inform me of how wonderful R&B music was and I was hooked for life. Later in the Army I had lots of black friends and we listened to and discussed R&B and pop music. Music draws us together and Dionne Warwick was a big component of that. She is still my favorite singer of all time.

I was a young black girl growing up in Washington, D.C. in the 1960s. We in D.C. loved her - never any talk about her sounding too white. We listened to everything from black and white artists. Remember that was a time before the radio stations compartmentalized music. You could hear Country one minute, Gospel the next and R&B right after. I love classic songs with lyrics and melody, what some people call the "American Songbook." Burt wrote them and Dionne sang the heck out of them. And I totally agree with you Dionne should have been awarded before those other ladies. She was a trailblazer and she opened up the business for the others to come through.

Her straight way of singing used to go right over my head. Now that I’m older, I can appreciate it much more (but still, not completely). This is also one of those songs that requires true maturity and life experience to sing. I remember Barbra did it so early on in her career (NGL I loved it cos of the theatrics) and couldn’t understand why critics panned it. But now that I’m 37, I finally understand that this song has to be sung from the heart of someone who has finally understood the meaning of love. It's not about singing it, but feeling it. Heck, at 37, I still don't even know the complete meaning of love - agape and all. Alfie has always been about a divine kind of love, which has layers.

She was Whitney first cousin.but in many cultures she was older. She was the daughter she never had. We in our cultures we tell the children to call elders in tne family to call us aunt or uncle. It is a testament of respect.

She is so smooth with this version wow it feels like she’s floating along the lyrics… as though her words and her voice are separate yet married moving in their own paces but together still???

Once you've seen the film, the gravity of the lyric truly takes weight. This version is a total emotional roller coaster, the technique, the subtlety, the genius of her performance is astonishing. Bless you for posting

I don't think there's an artist that I have loved as long as I have Dionne Warwick - And this just reinforces why that is.

Does anybody sing better than Dione? Can her interpretation and voice in Alfie be ever topped?

Dionne pours her heart and soul into this version of Alfie. Masterful performance. 🌹🌹🌹
My god, what a beautiful song. The collaboration by three artists at their peak, Bacharach, Hal David and Dionne make this one if the most splendid musical experiences of the 60's or any other decade. I'm glad that it was popular when I was a young boy because it has been sifting around in my mind for over 50 years.
