Dionne Warwick often gets overlooked when compared to many of her contemporaries - Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle, etc. Unlike these ladies (who are all remarkable), Dionne was never a soul belter but rather an interpreter who uses finesse and subtlety to convey the meaning of the lyrics Classy and always elegant, her style is easily recognisable and a pleasure to sit back and listen too. She's a storyteller in her approach to singing and the end result is timeless.
@nycp19693 жыл бұрын
I think she's overlooked compared to those others because although she took a soulful approach to her music, it wasn't R&B at all. She was a sophisticated MOR balladeer for the most part. Really, a singer like Diana Ross has a catalog with more soulful music than Dionne. Dionne's strong start with the original, yet not at all soulful sound of Burt Bacharach set her on a long path of a unique sound and approach to music. I love her phrasing and articulation. I love the way she weaves her musical stories.

@shawnjones45274 жыл бұрын
If you think an artist of her caliber is underrated, I suggest you look up the definition of underrated because that's not a word that has ever been used to describe this iconic legend. In the last few years, I've noticed how many people use the word "Underrated" to describe an artist that they feel doesn't get the recognition that they deserve. However, in majority of the cases that I've come across, the artist isn't underrated, so I suggest those that are making such claims, do more research, especially for those that are too young to remember the impact the artist has made. Just to give you an example of her accomplishments, I took the liberty of providing you with this excerpt: Warwick ranks among the 40 biggest hit makers of the entire rock era (1955-1999), based on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles Charts. She is one of the most-charted female vocalists of all time, with 56 of her singles making the Billboard Hot 100 between 1962 and 1998, and 80 singles making all Billboardcharts combined.

Whitneys voice declined to smoking cigarettes and also the fact that she toured consistently for 15 years, did movies and soundtracks and singing when she should have been resting. Even Clive Davis said it wasn't that caused the damage he said it was cigarettes. Whitney never said she free based so I don't know where you got that from. There are plenty of vocalist who snort coke and keep their voice
