Dionne was truly a force of nature in the early 80s...like a fine wine that had full matured.

In spite of the "historic" nature of the recording and the obvious flaws common in such recordings it still packs a punch. Dionne whirling around the melody with runs that leave me breathless.

Hi Y'all, I have the entire show and it is breathtaking. Jerry Butler was the warmup act and he made the mistake of turning one of his backup singers loose and she tore the roof off the joint. He never fully got the audience back. Dionne was not about to surrender the stage to some no name newbie so she really put out that night. My recorder was archaic and I could not tell wether it was running or not so that is why you hear the interruptions in the recording, I kept switching the record switch back and forth to see if I could feel the vibration but could not so I just did one last Hail Mary in the nick of time to catch her amazing vocalize. Thank you Mary! Yes, that is me as a young fellow shouting out, "Easy" and screaming afterward. I think I probably almost fainted, LOL!

By the way, this concert was at the Schubert Theater in Philly and Dionne announced that it was her ??? anniversary in show biz on that very date. I think it was Nov. 23rd. I don't know what measure she was using, her first gigs with the Drifters or the recording of Don't Make me over but she made a point that it was that very date. Jerry Butler was the opening act.

Blackadam, I'm sorry to say this is the only existing copy of this recording and as I explained, the gaps you hear are me flicking the pause button on and off. The recorder was concealed so I could not see if it was running so I just said a Hail Mary, flicked the button one more time and thankfully it landed in the "on" position. It was a thrilling night.
Revisiting this awesome clip. Dionne reaches a G5 in chest voice at 1:34. I would love to know her exact vocal range. I believe in a 1988 interview she claimed four octaves.

Are there any other recordings from this show? It is AMAZING what she does with "Make It Easy On Yourself" here.

Why scream over Ms. Dionne singing her heart out. Love how some of the audience members scream over beautiful vocals, trying to be part of the show …just can’t control their emotions… Hearing a live recording like this let you know how annoying that is… So the next time you go to a concert wait until the diva sings her last note and takes her bow then scream, your heart out…. Thank you.

I appreciate your response John. However, the person screaming over the tape was the teenager who was actually at this show and recorded this concert on his little hidden cassette player, and sent it to me, so...I guess having this rare clip with all its flaws and excited hollering by the fan is a still a treat nonetheless, yes?
