hey rick i know your cpu savvy so i bet you could download images of shop walls interior and exterior then print those out on sticker paper to apply to your walls instead of painting them..and use the balsa wood for trim...thats what I do

Rick's right....better to build a diorama even if it doesn't turn out as great as you hoped. How else are you going to learn? Getting back into modeling after 15+ years, but going for 1/35th scale zombie/apocalypse dioramas. Never used foam board, but there's several videos showing how you can seal the board so it will more easily accept paint. One is shellac which is NOT cheap, but one of the viewers suggested using white glue diluted with water. As to tiles, there's several different ways of doing it, especially if you're not doing large scale cars. Googled a bunch of different tiles in styles/colors, then shrunk them to be printed out to the size I need. You can also alter the colors, so now I have red, black, green blue and yellow tiles with the option of either gluing them (diluted white glue) or printing them on decal paper. If you REALLY want to go to town in showing off tiles, this is what I did. Built Monogram's 1/48th T-6 Texan and F-84 Thunderjet (20+ years ago), but wanted a checkered cowling on the T-6 and checkers on the F-84's tail/stabilizers. Of course, no decals were available in the size needed. Figured out what size of checkerboards needed, then cut strips of low stick tape to the width needed. Painted the cowling it's basic color, which was yellow for the T-6, then layed the strips of tape around the entire width of the cowling. Then pulled off every other piece of tape. Then layed a row of tape vertically on the cowling and afterwards, removed every other piece. The after spray painting the cowling black, GENTLY pulled off all the tape. Did this so I wouldn't have any paint creeping under the tape. You could do the same for a garage floor.

I could not agree more! Yeah, just build something. I've been out of 1/10th Scale R/C for almost 20 years. I got back to find out that it's much more than just funny looking vehicles going way too fast..... And has become truly Scale, electronics hidden, no oversized shocks or enormous tires, a foot beyond the fenders - but real Scale models, animated! They're putting their Rigs in 1/10th Scale Garages now too, which is what brought me here.

Learn something from KZbin every time I check it out. Now want to learn how to add led's to street lamps/stop lights, in/outside of a building & vehicles like police/ambulances. There's a video by Plasmo on 2 different ways of creating your own PE. This way I can make my own fences, gates, etc. to what ever size/style I want. Have downloaded (literally) several hundred drawings of floor tiles, wallpaper and gates & fence styles, from plain to really fancy.

Rick, quick question for you. How did you glue the foam board together? Does rubber cement do the trick?

I am a rookie at making dioramas, I am trying to make some HO scale ones so that I can do photo shoots with my locomotives and would greatly take any advice you can give me on how to build them. I have been watching other youtube videos but everyone seems to be different on how to make them....
