I have really enjoyed this series. Really great high level commentary from the guests and great questions to coax some secret tactics. It's been years since I played and after finding this series I set up a new game with friends :)

I'm so glad to hear it's rekindling the game for you. Making the series has made me want to play as some of the less desirable nations. But now that I want to play as Italy, I never seem to get to be Italy.

My first real game after learning was as Italy and I managed a win somehow. It's one of my favorite and most satisfying board game wins I've ever had. What I love about this game is that even though it's very asymmetrical to start, you can use someone's strength against them through diplomatic back channels. Being the small guy means more people will listen to you and you can manufacture your own comeback.

@@KrazyKittyKatKatcher You make an astute point. There's a definite built-in balancing system for the asymmetry of the game.

Very cool. I have seen quite some games where players on Russia failed. Either by not establishing diplomatic relations or trying to push both north and south at the same time. I think it is important to focus on one direction at least in the early game.
@LegendaryTactics3 жыл бұрын
I can see an argument for modest growth in each direction rather than fully committing one way or the other. It allows you to really secure what you've won. However, this will of course change depending on what all the other players are doing.
@bf22293 жыл бұрын
@@LegendaryTactics that is correct as well. I just saw in the few games i have played so far several instances where the Russian player was spread to thin. In my first and only Russia game I focused on the south first. I did get Swe however through diplomacy. I was able to solo the game as Germany and France fought a never-ending war after the fall of England (which missed his first turn if I remember correctly). I would have loved to see this video before my first Russia game :). Great videos on diplomacy. They do help me out a lot. I am currently playing as England and try to use your video on England as guidance!

Great advice for Russia! I would like to see an expanded discussion for when Russia faces a strong England or Turkey. This can lead to the loss of StP to an English fleet or Sev to a Turkish fleet while leaving Russia fully invested into the opposite theater. My case as Turkey for example is to point out to the Russian player that the best alliances are the ones assisted by the map and frees up the most units to focus on expansion elsewhere. A Turkish fleet in Sev does this while a Black Sea stalemate does not. Or does the ceding of StP or Sev spell automatic doom for Russia at high levels?
@LegendaryTactics3 жыл бұрын
Without Stp and the Scandinavian centers, you can still hit 18 with Russian, Austrian, Turkish, Baltic, and Italian centers +1 German or French center. But that likely means that England or France is pushing for the same on the other side of the stalemate line.
@JM-or1hc3 жыл бұрын
@@LegendaryTactics That’s a good point about England. The stalemate line is more of an issue when working with England than with Turkey.

The general idea is the army goes to Finland while the fleet goes to Sweden. There is an anti-German idea of A Liv-Swe, F GoB C A Liv-Swe, but that is very, very committal against Germany, without actually threatening their home centers.
