Dir en Grey tends to change how the song is played in many concerts. It kind of depends on how Kyo is feeling that day. I've heard this one time in concert and almost didn't recognize it at first because they had totally changed the song. You never know what you'll get concert to concert in terms of style.

Dir en grey are a musical chameleon. They've never had a lineup change, ever since their inception in 1996, yet every release sounds very different from the previous. I'd recommend you go through their discography chronologically and check out one or two songs per album. On spotify they recently released their entire back catalog and a 3 disc greatest hits / portfolio album called "Vestige of Scratches", which contains material from throughout their career, including several rare B-sides. It's a great place to start if you want to get into Dir En Grey. Personally, I like their older material best (anything Uroboros era and earlier), especially the 2001 album MACABRE. That album is full of masterpieces. "Wake", "Myaku", "Macabre", and "Zakuro" just to name a few. That and the 2002 album KISOU are my personal favourites. But since their catalog is so diverse, there's something in there for everyone. :)

@@dicodec Yes~ Absolutely Diabolos. It's likely perfect because it is a ballad like Vinushka but with way more of their chaotic and heavy structure like in Obscure, yet with the technical Vishnuka'esque complexity and versatility. Being from more metal backgrounds, you would probably enjoy that whole album: Dum Spiro Spero is a masterpiece. There's normally two camps of Dir en Grey fans - The visual kei era ones who find their evolving sound into more Nu Metal / Heavy / Progressive sound as some sell out attempt to appeal to larger audience, and those who aren't inept weaboos and actually appreciate their growth. So while Dum Spiro Spero may not be for those of the former, you guys seem at home with the latter, so yeah, Diabolos is a definite. Haha.

God, where to even begin with Dir En Grey? Their style has changed over the 20 or so years of the band's existence, that it's impossible for me to point to one song and say, "This is Dir En Grey." Their style ranges from something as peaceful sounding as "Ain't Afraid to Die" to something as hardcore as "The Deeper Vileness", and even more hardcore than that. Just running through their discography real quick, some personal favorites include: * "Mazohyst of Decadence" (slow, depressing tone [makes sense given the topic of the song]) * "Jessica" (much more lighthearted and pop-y) * "Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai ni Hohoemi" (soft, heavily emotional) * "Ranunculus" (bass-heavy and vocally harmonic) But to be completely honest, I enjoy their entire discography; there isn't a song of theirs that I don't enjoy in some fashion.

I actually also have a suggestion for another band to check out if you like, Seikima-II from Japan. Their fictional backstory is that they're Demons from another dimension here to spread the word of Satan through heavy metal, with names such as His Excellency Demon Kakka, Doctor Xenon Ishikawa, and Crown Prince of Hell Damian Hamada. There's a performance I think would be a good one to react to in which all 9 members perform their song Jack the Ripper at a reunion show, they're all really talented and it's a great song.

Never liked comparison "it's like-insert band name-" it's lazy ,not to mention degrading towards the artists that are performing the song

Or you could consider it a compliment 🤷♂️ Gives people who are new to a band an incentive to keep checking them out.
