The vocal versatility of Kyo here is insane and he's only gotten better. You can see he feels his songs and the music deeply and his passion drives his will. He has pushed his limits to collapse on stage and shredded his vocal chords when he was feverishly ill. It's on video too, Decayed Crow Symphonic live version. I've always found him to be an awe inspiring vocalist. He exudes crazy energy.

I love kyo but in recent years his voice keeps getting more lower (probably all the cigars he smokes). I don't think he can do ware yame tote or dozing green type of songs perfectly now. Although his growls and falsetto are still beautiful
@acherontiaatropos60483 ай бұрын
@@bullymaguire5838 He sings as high as always still. He's been flexing his lower register more recently but he still does the higher stuff. I'm sure he'd do both fine depending on the day. I don't think he's ever done Ware Yami Tote justice live on a recorded performance although that might have more to do with the fact that all the performances where he's sang it his voice wasn't his best. It's not a song they've done a lot. Also not sure if he actually smokes or if it's just a stage prop thing. It seems like part of his outfit - when he wears a suit he'll have a cigar. When he's dressed more casually he's had a cigarette. And it's only in like 1/30th of their shows that he has either.

Its most cute reaction on my favourite band! Kyo amazing!!

7:15 one of the things I love most about this band is how theatrical they are. That operatic voice almost like all the woman and children crying as the bomb is dropped. It sounds so sad as if the ghost of those who died are singing There's also the hatred and angst of war with his high screams the happiness and glee of the death with his lows the weeping fathers begging for peace and the sadness of the oroboros knowing it will repeat. You can tell this song is powerful because everyone is weeping in the crowd you don't see that almost ever 9:07 thats a wail of deep emotion and then you can hear a demonic voice after "I tell of death" "Who shall vanish in the wind" "Because there is evil within me" Such vivid pictures with images of war raging in the back ground Not many bands can achieve the emotion this evokes

While you can only have one true first reaction, I can relive that moment while watching people react to them for the first time like this. Every one of their albums has a new vibe; it’s always fun to see what they’ll do next.

I'm telling you, the Japanese could have taken over the world a long time ago - they would have asked their rock musicians to lead the crowd, they would have gone without thinking, and they would have taken us all with them 😹
@acherontiaatropos60483 ай бұрын
He has much more range than is even shown here. He's had 30 or so years of trying different things. He's great at getting in character for songs as well whether it's meant to be sad, aggressive, sexy, etc. The types of songs this band writes don't stick to any formula (the other members are as diverse in their playing styles as the vocalist is). Every album comes with several songs that are hard to describe with established genres, even their own. Vocalist has two other bands (Sukekiyo and Petit Brabancon). Both are similarly diverse. Dir en grey is the sophisticated one and is neutral in terms of masculinity/femininity. Sukekiyo is the schizo pop one and the most feminine one. Petit Brabancon (Puchibura) is the most balls-to-the-wall energetic and most masculine one. With overlap (some DEG songs are more masculine and all out than some Puchibura songs, etc.). Any reaction to any of these bands is greatly appreciated!

Kyo, the frontman of the band, has a voice with a range of 5 octaves. And about screaming and the voice of death, he has forgotten more in 30 years than many young singers know now. This is metal of the highest level. And he is also the founding father of the Japanese musical genre Visual key
@fearnach3 ай бұрын
I'm not sure where you're taking this from?? His range is between five or six octaves. That's still super impressive, so I don't get why you have to exaggerate even more. Dir en grey also didn't found visual kei at all. They sure were a major influence over the years, but they came twenty-or-so years after Buck-Tick and X-Japan got the scene rolling

I was lucky enough to see this song live, ,in 2018. There are no words. Diru is by far my fave band. You should check out the singers other bands, Sukekiyo and Petite Brabancon. If you get a chance..,. see Dir en Grey live... at least once in your life. The experience will change how you hear/see music.

They have a wide variety of styles in their catalog from rock-pop songs to some very heavy and dark shit. Id say they have been gotten more progressive with the passing years. Whatever u want to dive into older or newer stuff id always recommend checking their live shows, they usually have amazing sound and mixing quality, they take good care on delivering a great show, and specially some of their older songs, they have rearranged and elevated many of them, plus you don't want to miss on Kyo's peformances.

oh man, great reaction, love that you really engaged with the song, if you enjoyed this, you would probably love diabolos, a monstrous track from the album after this one. world of mercy is a great track too but i think it doesn't hold up as well to the other long, progressive tracks that dir en grey has done.
@M_reapr3 ай бұрын
It was terribly hard to pick a song from their catalogue they have so much variety I landed on these two tracks 1 because vinuska is legendary and 2 world of mercy has great production a fantastic music video and is probably more closer to his preferences Tbf this is my favorite song by them don't know if he would be into that though lol kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKnaY6uElK55hskfeature=shared kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKnaY6uElK55hskfeature=shared
