Guys, it makes my heart melt to see you discover their music. My band number 1 for almost 20 years now. Back in the days getting a CD copy was pure luck - and the other people at high school calling me freak for listening to J-Rock. Never regret ❤️

When a band releases a first LP where songs like this go hand in hand with songs like Mazohyst of Decadence, ZAN and Mask you know you found something special that you can only hope will stand the test of time to keep creating. Their first album really had so many awesome sounds that weren't at all 'typical' for Visual Kei at the time but I think you can still feel those roots very deeply within the album and see how they tried to capture and 'turn' the audience towards what would later be their most original work in my opinion. They change their look for every release or video and as they produced a pv for EVERY song on this album you find a bunch of them ^^ This is definitely and by far their most simple video when it comes to visuals but it still feels kind of iconic. Probably not to someone who did not grow up with Dir en grey or Japanese music in general but I think there are people who feel similar to this as I do ^^'' I think I could see your confusion there at the beginning and I always wish your reactions would be a bit longer so you could say a bit more about the song/ your experience of listening to it for the first time. You are two people there so I would kind of like to see you talk about it with each other for a little bit longer. But that's just the kind of reactions I personally prefer. I hope you have a good day

I think they were always rather setting the trends than following them, even from the start! Maybe the MISSA era was a little more visually copying the older VK bands, but almost right away they found their own original self expression, I think. I love how the visual part is still suck an important of their artistry, though. The new Ochita koto no aru sora look is pretty amazing.^^
@passio-7354 жыл бұрын
@@desolateleng9943 Well they started as a cover band so there must have been some 'following' ;) But you are right that you could hear their potential already in La:Sadie's and with MISSA - back when they didn't have enough money to buy McDonalds. After all, there must be a reason Yoshiki became aware of them and produced the singles for Gauze (ZAN, Yurameki and Akuro no Oka). I think both I'll and Jealous made it into the top 10 oricon charts which was pretty unusual for a new band at the time. So my original comment didn't aim to dismiss those early works. But then there were a LOT of bands in VK during that time that had a unique sound and concept. The diversity on Dir en grey's Gauze, however, could have really made people imagine a band that would evolve into all kinds of directions. Btw. Lu:Ciel is one of my favorite songs ever. The only thing that one is missing is Toshiya ^^'' And yes~ I am really glad they tossed those boring T-Shirts and addidas suits and incorporate awesome clothing into their art again :D New outfits are really beautiful; though I don't really like the mask on Shinya 😪

I agree 100% with your position. :) I too grew up with VK and Dir en grey were one of those bands that helped me through many hard times during my teen years. Anyone else remember Kagerou, Vidoll, the GazettE? 2006-2008 was a magical time to be a VK fan in Europe.

Nice reaction! Early Dir en Grey is very varied, in that same album, the song Zan is just mad. Please react to one of the biggest exponents of Visual Kei in Japan (and with very few reactions online): Malice Mizer - Bel Air (Live) or Shiroi (Live)!

If you liked this song I'd recommend reacting to the songs Cage or Taiyou no Ao, they're both really great and catchy songs in a similar style off the same album but I think they're a lot more impactful than this one. Some of the more recent recorded lives of Taiyou no Ao in particular are really emotional and powerful.

yokan is a quite unique song in dir en gray, their first album is very varied in musical styles, but to really see the musical change and the evolution of the band I recommend you listen to the 2 versions of kiri to mayu, the first is from the year 1997 (it is the first song of his first mini album) and the second that is a remake of the year 2012.
