i said it before and i'll say it again. i don't believe that there ever has been, nor ever will be, ever, a guitar performance, so strong, so powerfull, so deep, and cutting through so many layers of emotions, with such powerfull message, as this single masterpiece, ever. It's so legendary, so historical, and so emotional, i think this deserves to be called a 'wonder of the world'. The atmosphere and the entire performance transcends through so many levels of superhuman performance and is only more goosbump infusing amazing due to the humbleness of Mark Knopfler. This performance alone deserves a nobel peace prize.

What happens here is wonderful! He dedicates the song to Mandela. At minute 0:26 he is so emotional he can not talk. At minute 2:26 he has to dry his tears and his voice trembles and at minute 7:50 he can not talk either. This is magic. An artist crying with his own song because the meaning of it. A musician is not someone who plays an instrument, but someone who makes you feel. Music is not a product, it´s something that comes from the heart. That´s why he is one of my favourite, that´s why this is one of the best versions of this song and that´s why I love this song.

This guy is just something else. He speaks with the guitar, he sings and the guitar answers, and what a heart-felt song, this isn't some virtuosistic solo played for the sake of playing, it's a message, a meaningful one too, and most of it wasn't expressed with words. The only other artist i know that could express things that well and in such an organic way (and with a handful of notes) is BB King in his later years. Just WOW

Mark uses his fingers to pick the electric guitar! So he gets this incredible sounding "cry" or "moan" that imitates a violin often. I think this technique attributes to the vocal quality of the guitar which literally makes me wet :) Just...an amazing guitar player

So sincere, got tears in my eyes. I was 22. Magic times, everything seemed possible back then. Dire Straits were the biggest band in the world in 1988. Knopfler looks humbled and quite emotional.

Thank you for this outstanding version. Here in Canada November 11th at 11:00 a.m. everything stops for 1 minute of silence to remember the dead warriors from WWW1 and 2 and now Afghanistan, Korea. The national radio station (CBC) then plays Brother in Arms. It is so powerful to be working and then take these minutes too think in silence. My grandfathers I never knew. They never came home from Europe. This version is awesome. The guitar playing by Mark is so beautiful and perfect.

I don't think there is a single musical piece out there that comes even remotely close to this absolute work of artistic walhalla that is this performance right here. Not even the original/studio version of this song in particular is in it's vincinity. Live. Non-Commercial. 'No Sweat'. No computers. No autotune. Pure music at it's absolute highest best. I am looking for years and years for a HQ version of this golden piece of music. That is, audio-wise. If anybody out there has a link to this work in pref. lossless format, i am grateful beyond words. This deserves to be played in quality better than what this video is able to provide. There HAS to be. But where.

My favorite rendition of Brothers in Arms. Knopfler was stratospheric that night. Never understand how he manages to perform this song without tearing up. Playing it for Mandela again today...he who never deserted his brothers. "Let me bid you farewell..."

Being a king on a Strat, and probably only second ever to Dave Gilmour on it, the Gibson tone was perfect for Brothers in Arms. Just perfect.

What to say that hasn't be told already! Tears, shivers, amazement, joy, sadnes, admiration, greatnes, these are some of the feelings generated in me, by listening to this incredible song by the great Dire Straits and the greater still: HIS MAJESTY...MARK KNOPFLER. Thsnk you!!!

Everytime i watch this i'm close to crying, the emotions of knopler when he's intro "one humanity, one justice" and at the end where he has no more words to say about humanity... I always think about WW1 and somehow i imagine the guitarsolo as a long ass barrage of artillery, Wrecking the minds of the listeners as the shells did so many lives. This emotion i get is essential for me to understand the casualties of war and what we should at so many times avoid, more now then ever

Every man has to die - what he stood for won't. A genuine loss to humanity - in my lifetime I will not forget him, and what he stood for - and in time, I will tell my children about what he did for the world. I don't know what else to say - he will not be forgotten. Mark
