I used to listen to this on the way to school when my Dad drove me (I'm British) and thought he was so uncool (I used to duck when people saw me as back then he had a soft top car). Now at 26 I listen to the music he listened to and love it, I realise what amazing music is. My Dad now has MS and is immobile almost and moves in a wheelchair, I've just asked him to fly to France with me and see Dire Straits to see their experience live one last time, and put our differences aside.

The Recorded Version is beautiful being my Favorite of all time songs in my 70 years of life. The Live performance which is the Long Version is just too awesome to be real, but Truth is before our eyes. They all played a role in this music, so I will not single out any single player yet I do have my unspoken favorite Drummer and Guitarist.

I have a strong interest in sound quality of studio over live performance. This concert along with a few other exceptions turn that thinking upside down. The work that was displayed here (drums especially) outshone the studio version tenfold. Notice the touch of Brothers In Arms that Mark added at the end of the set. The faster pace drove it better as well. Great choice Mike!

The 80s produced some of the best music. Every genre has its era but the 80s put out some great music. I’m bias of course going on 41 lol. Pop, rock, metal, rap, and yes real country. Michael Jackson, Prince, Motley Cru, Stevie Ray Vaughn “ 🎸 GOAT”, Metallica, Megadeath, Sugar Hill Gang, Slick Rick, NWA, Young MC, Tone Loc, the 80s was a great decade of music.

you've hit gold with the Alchemy record. It is amazing from start to finish!! In my opinion their best work was done before this. Alchemy sort of caps it up. Their work before this is one of the most inspired in rock history, specially if you like an elegant bluesie sort of sound. Like nothing else.

U were right on the money about sounding like a banjo style- he was influenced by country and folk fingerpicker's, like Chet Atkins etc. I think he was mostly self taught- which created his unorthodox style, and sound- which worked out pretty good I think LOL!

This is just acrobatics on a guitar, i see them making salto's flying in the air and they go faster, and faster and faster.... ps. you really nailed the description on how Magic Mark plays the guitar, its like he plays it like the Banjo, that is so true and so wicked.

Thank you. I love it, too. Dire Straits is my favorite band after Queen, but Mark Knopfler is my favorite guitar player. He's just fabulous, & his sound is unique, unmistakable. Oh, and Terry Williams is a beast on drums. I think he left the band after the Alchemy tour, don't know why, but wonder if his style was a bit heavier than what they wanted for their sound. He came on a you tube video recently & said he's "Still bangin' on the bongos like a chimpanzee." Did you know they played at Live Aid? Did a good job, with this song, Money For Nothing, (Sting joined them for that one) & I don't remember what else. Lucky for them they were on just before Queen. Have you heard Knopfler's soundtrack for Local Hero? That's one of my favorite movies. There is one song, "The Way It Always Starts" sung by Gerry Rafferty that is pretty wonderful. Maybe you would enjoy reacting to it. Maybe I've said all of this before. ;)

Another great reaction to a great song. They are The Sultans of Swing. I'd like to hear your reaction to The Ventures. They started in the 50's and had a long career first in the US then in Japan. Listen to Wipeout from their Japan tour. I think around 1966. Ventures was one of the groups that paved the way and influenced a lot of guitarist. Walk Don't Run was one of their first hits. No singing, just instrumentals.

You get a shiver in the dark It's a raining in the park but meantime- South of the river you stop and you hold everything A band is blowing Dixie, double four time You feel alright when you hear the music ring Well now you step inside but you don't see too many faces Coming in out of the rain they hear the jazz go down Competition in other places Uh but the horns they blowin' that sound Way on down south Way on down south London town You check out guitar George, he knows-all the chords Mind, it's strictly rhythm he doesn't want to make it cry or sing They said an old guitar is all, he can afford When he gets up under the lights to play his thing And Harry doesn't mind, if he doesn't, make the scene He's got a daytime job, he's doing alright He can play the Honky Tonk like anything Savin' it up, for Friday night With the Sultans We're the Sultans of Swing Then a crowd a young boys they're a foolin' around in the corner Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies and their platform soles They don't give a damn about any trumpet playin' band It ain't what they call Rock and Roll And the Sultans Yeah, the Sultans, they play Creole Creole And then the man he steps right up to the microphone And says at last just as the time bell rings "Goodnight, now it's time to go home" Then he makes it fast with one more thing "We are the Sultans We are the Sultans of Swing"

What you have copy pasted at the beginning of your video: "fair use such as criticism, comment [...]." This video cannot be categorized as fair use for a few reasons. You have not reacted in any way other than saying "ya, this good, it's amazing" at the end of the video for 15 seconds. You have not criticized the piece in any way. 12 minutes of your 14 minute video is just you playing the video with you silent. the first minute of your video is you promoting your channel. I'm sorry but copy pasting a "copyright dispenser"at the beginning of every video don't mean shit, there is barely any content in this video. Please have more substance when making a review. The song was fire tho, ngl.

They never played this song the same way. It had a base rhythm and the band improvised the rest at each show to make the experience different for everyone that saw them (and those that saw them more than once). Think of it like a jazz jam session for a rock band. They had pre-planned timings, but a lot of the fill was on-the-spot...
