This band is often overlooked. Dire straits is F*cking ridiculous. They kill it live. Mark is easily one of my favorite guitarists/songwriters. Just splendid.

Overlooked? They were everywhere all of the time in the eighties. So much they made me sick with drivle like walk of life. Their first 3 albums were great and then they sold out to Phillips Compact Disc.

@@JeeGee114 You can't tell me Love Over Gold isn't a good album. Maybe not as good as Making Movies, that's up for debate but it's really good. ExtendeDancEPlay was really just filler so I'll give you that, it's definitely the least of what they released but then with Brothers In Arms you can't really fault it. Sure it sounds a whole lot different than their first couple albums or even Love Over Gold, and Walk Of Life is debatably annoying with the synth riff (though I like it to be quite honest it kinda reminds me of Industrial Disease meets Two Young Lovers, the live version from On The Night is better though) but even without Walk Of Life, the album is nuts and one of the best albums, if not the best album of 1985

My favorite song of all time. A masterpiece. When I hear it, I'm 16 again in the summer of 1980, and I'm playing this so loud it's echoing all over the house, with my parents not home and my dreams and my future firmly in front of me.

I was on the east London tube from Rotherhithe to Whitechapel and upon reaching the street a man down on he’s luck approached me . Son come here. I stopped dead . Got 50p for a cup of tea for me . Yer here . Where you going work I said. Grateful son here take this and he gave me an album that was tucked under he’s arm . No you keep it . I insist. When I got home I put it on the radiogram . I was hooked and been a faithful admirer of mark and he’s work since. I guess the man who was down on luck is long gone now but I am truly thankful to him for turning my life round .If you’re looking down old friend from heaven your life wasn’t in vain . I am crying tears of joy and sadness…. The joy that I grew up listening, watching and learning this bloody good music. Live concerts were not breaking your bank balance and the were in great abundance. The talent was endless and the artists could play and sing without any auto tuning. Now for the tears of sadness is that we will never see anything on this level of brilliance ever again… Look now at the so called modern Hitparade then you know what I mean.

I have been a diehard DS/MK fan since I first heard Sultans in 78. I saw DS live in 85 and then in 91. Seen MK live 5 times through the years. Tunnel of Love is by far my favorite DS song among many others. Im not partial to any single rendition, but this one sounds raw and stripped down compared to the classic Alchemy version (my favorite). I love the lineup here with Pick, John, Hal Lindes, and Alan Clark. May have been Pick's final year before he left the band. I read somewhere that MK doesn't play TOL because it was his Dad's favorite song and after he passed away, Mark says it's too hard for him to play. Luckily It forever lives on KZbin.

I don't know if you play guitar, but as a guitarist of almost 45 years myself, I'd have to agree with you. At that time of his life he really was a genius. I always come back to 'Making movies' it has a magical hold. Wish I'd taken more notice when they were big in the 80s but I was a nwobhm head back then and they just weren't 'heavy' enough for me but now at 58 years young I absolutely love them. One of those bands I didn't see when I should have but thankfully saw Thin Lizzy on their last tour. What a time for awesome rock music the 80s (60s and 70s too) 90s kinda okish. Anyways glad I grew up seeing some amazing live bands before the mobile phone ruined the concert experience 🎸🤘🏻

"On Every Street", when it came out, I liked it, but we have to remember "Brothers in Arm's" had come out, my favorite from them, before it and it was not given the proper credit for being another great album. It is simply one of the best albums I've ever heard! I find myself listening to it more now than when I first purchased it back in 91. Wow!

This version of Dire Straits and the one with his brother to me were the best. Pick on drums gives it a very earthy and natural energetic feel. I got to see Mark Knopfler solo performance. It was great. But this band has soul. This is one of my favourite songs. It has so much emotion. I can see why his dad loved it. Time passes so quickly. I am glad this moment was captured on film. I just love the ending sequence and guitar chords and lead.

I’ve always loved this song. The instrumental last 3 minutes is gold. It’s among my favorite pieces of music. I’ve never had the opportunity to see them live. I wish I had.

As much as I appreciate the music, I really appreciate how well filmed this was. There were nice long shots without the quick, herky-jerky editing of most music videos, the color was great, and the sound was very clear. It is so rare to get everything right as this video did. I have often wished this band had kept at it for a lot longer but I guess Mark needed to stretch his chops as a solo musician. For all his music, I am grateful.

PICK WITHERS One of the most cultivated drummers ever. I love anyone of his beats almost as much as Knopfler's guitar.

Fully agree, he keeps it so tight and was a big inspiration to me when I started playing the drums in 1980. The drummer who joined DS later was much too noisy for my taste.
