He shouldnt be forced to do something he doesnt want at all. He clearly shows disinterest in the things his father is making him do. A person has a limit to every stressful thing he/she encounters in life and psychologically he might get severe damage. He might even hurt himself intentionally just to make his father stop. Just let him rest :/

Parents really need to realize that they can't force their dreams on their children. Because by doing that, just like how they regret not being able to fulfill their dreams , in the future their kids will also regret not being able to do what they themselves really wanted to do

I totally understand the boy. I used to do swimming but I never found enjoyment in it. Even though I won competitions it still just caused me to feel anxious and always on edge, not to mention depressed. My family were proud of me when I won and when I lost they were supportive but I always asked if I could quit. They questioned me why? but I really didn't know how to explain it in a way they would understand. It was so aggravating. Eventually I finally was able to stop but only because I moved and was starting high school. I kind of miss swimming BUT only because it gave me a nice bod and muscles. So yeah, I get the boy.

I know how they feel! omg my uncle had a running club and I was forced to join at the age of 5. I was pretty good, won not only in my category but over all too. I hated so much, every day after school I would practice until I got blisters. My knees got it the worst. I needed an operation after my 1st marathon at the age of 14........Yeah have a God given gift doesn't mean you have to follow that path. I carried the dreams, goals, and my families name on my shoulders, very stressful. ....now I'm a Marine and I love life. everyone should get a chance to follow their dreams and not live others.

I believe there should be a balance of GOOD PARENTING + FREEDOM OF CHOICE for their kids, but to certain extent only. Like, if a parent really wants their kid(s) to follow the dreams they never did achieve, they should be more supportive caring and patient with the kids. Show them actual support, talk to them when they feel like giving up, discuss with them why you want them chasing your dreams... And if the children wanna have freedom in choosing and following their own dreams, they should be PERSISTENT, PERSEVERE, and Consistent in their efforts in achieving their dreams, while the parents should always be there to be the extra shoulder to lend support when their kids most need em. The key is always a balance between both parties. They should both meet each other halfway

Why are they siding with the father and then siding with the son. They should be siding with the son. He doesn't want to go through with his father's dream, it's his father's dream. Even if his father wasn't able to then he shouldn't pressure his son. The father is wrong and the boy is clearly stressed. Stop making him more stressed

Seriously doing sports if any kind is no fun if you don't enjoy them no matter what you're winning or how good you are. I play basketball at a pretty high level and have been to two nationals so far and was going to go on my third this year but... I looked at my time table for what was on for this school term and 8 out of 10 weekends were filled up with tournaments and overnight camps as well having 3 games on and trainings on after every school day. I got really stressed because i still had my assignments that would come and homework as well as a girl at my age (14) wanting a social life and going shopping with my sister and doing all the fun stuff you can do during this time in your life, that was all taken away from me for the last two years. I know that some of that is necessary to get good enough to make the top teams and play for your country, which was what my parents, coaches and even myself was set out to do at the start of the long road to become one of the best, but not everyone is made to do that or want to do that. I told my parents that I really just wanted to pull out of the state team and just continue doing basketball locally and luckily I have parents that want to support me in what I wanted to do, of course they asked if I was sure and tried to tell me 'but you're really good, you should continue! Just go for this camp and see how you feel after' I knew if I did that then I'd get pressured into staying on the team like it did 2 times before so I said no and they supported it. Now, after pulling out of the the team and just staying with local basketball, I've enjoyed my life so much more with time to relax but still stay fit, I even got to go shopping with my sister yesterday. Becoming a champion is dementedly not for everyone, because you have to go through so much work and pain, but if you enjoy it then of course you should keep on doing it, but only do it if you are truly enjoying yourself, you might still like playing or doing it but not with so much competition or not at such a high level. I truly hope that this boy gets to do what he wants.

Somewhere I think that you get champions only when you push them so hard at this young age. No kid wants to get up early and go through tremendous training. It can be really hard for a coach (in this case a father too) to give up on a trainee who has potential to earn more and more medals. It's really hard decision to make, if you think from a coach's perspective.

just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean you have to do it. he shouldn’t be forced to live his fathers dream (especially since it does include violence) and if he has a small liking for it, he can do it as a hobby.

I had my first full body sparring match and I didn't do so well with techniques and other things but my dad didn't complain, the father seriously should've been like " oh well done", it's okay, "you'll do well next time" or something

the father was asked what was his final goal and he answered with he wants his son to win other competitions blah blah blah. that's a problem already. he didnt answer with His goal rather what he want his son to have as goals. i wish no parent is like this. thats putting too much pressure on your child and taking away their chance at enjoying what they really want to do. why cant you just support your child hhhhhhh
