That second kid is sneaky he is already lying soo much and taking advantage of the power play. They need to watch out for him as he grows older. Edit: I am just saying they need to pay more attention to him because if these behaviors aren't reprimanded at young age it could go into his adulthood. Effect relationships, jobs etc.

I am glad they were able to properly express how they feel in the end. Having a shitty childhood doesn’t give you the right to project your trauma on your kids. It is also not an excuse to treat you kids like trash.

It's sad but this is often the case when it comes to childhood traumas inflicted upon us when we're young. I thought it was ironic how he said he dislikes his son because he's just like him and he doesn't think profoundly. Like the dad is soo "introspective" himself. What a joke. A lot of times on this show I think people could really fix their problems by trying to take a step back and really analyze the situation properly and fairly.

There's many effects of abuse. Some ppl decides that they wanted to be a better person than their abuser, while some other people that was abused becomes easily intimidated. But there's also not so little the amount that do also turned out to be worse or exactly the same just like who had caused the trauma on them.

I don't know if this will help but with that I thought since he was the youngest he got no love so this leads him to love the youngest and scold the oldest unlike his family did it doesn't make what he is doing right but I think that is what he is doing
@vexu7366

He is literally imitating his own father's behavior. This is completely normal and actually common. He is treating his eldest as he was treated when he was a child and the youngest as his younger brother was treated and he can't even explain why he's doing it. He is simply subconsciously imitating his own father's actions because that is all he knows.

He directed his hate for his older sibling towards his eldest son. Since the eldest was treated better when he was young, he wanted the opposite for his eldest child. "The eldest should suffer now because the eldest never suffered back then". Hope that makes sense.

@@juliawu8710 I understand that lol. They usually forget you when you are middle child. My father worried about my elder sibling's career and since my elder sibling shared his interest, they got along better. and my mother doted and had to care for my younger sibling and they also shared the same interest. I wasn't into sports or shopping so I was like the black sheep of the family and the middle child ^^

@@unknownalt5845 wow. 😥 I feel bad. I'm the oldest but I feel like my parents hate me. When my brother was born, they forgot all about me and I was left to do everything. It hurts me when they say I never do anything because I do. My parents always said it was cuz I was a "big girl" now but when my brother became a "big boy" he never had to do anything I did. Why? Because there was no reason to since I was the one already doing it. Recently my parents get frustrated because they realized my brother couldn't do anything for himself. They blamed it on me and said it was because I was always yelling at him and never a good sister when in truth it was because he didn't know something I had taught him thousands of times already and he always forgot afterwards. I always get mad at him and then my parents always blame me. I've always thought that the oldest was always the one having it the worst but I see that's not always the case. I hope I have another sibling. Right now, I'm older so if I have another sibling, it's my brother who'll take care of him/her. I always try to tell my brother that he gets it easy but he never understands. Another child in the picture would make him so furious since he's used to getting all the attention. I can't wait until I move out. I hope you're doing well. It's sad to see so many people going through the same thing. There's so many of us, so how come no one notices? They should have a parenting class.

It's not the son's fault that he takes after his father, how can he blame him for that? I really don't understand the mentality of some parents...if you can't find it in your heart to love your son then you should at least act like you do even though you don't. He's a grown ass man, he should find enough maturity to realize he is harming an innocent kid with this childish behaviour. If you don't want to pass your traits to your kids then maybe you shoudln't have kids!

I think the dad finally realized that he was imitating his own father's behavior towards him when he was a kid and by listening to his kids express how it made them feel he was able to actually take a step back and realize what he was doing. I truly believe the dad was hurt when he realized what he's done and I do believe he's remorseful. Sometimes people react without thinking and while they know what they are doing is wrong they don't know how to suck up their pride and say sorry. He was definitely in denial about the impact his actions had on his children. Let's just hope they dont fall back into bad habits!

Everyone keep adoring my sister, telling her she is smart but for me, I never received any of that. I understand them tho, because I was such an active kid in their hard time but I can't help feeling sad. Even I tried hard to live my life on positivity, I lack communication skills. Parents love towards children should be above anything in this world. If a child feels his/her parent is treating or loving him/her less than other siblings, it's a failure of that parent.

He's nice to the younger one because he actually sees himself in the younger one since he used to be the younger unloved sibling. but he's being manipulative and saying it's because of seeing "bad qualities". Hmm no. Guess who else is manipulative the younger son.

I hope that the parents will get marital counseling, Lee Rae and Dad get individual therapy, and the whole family goes to family counseling soon. They all seem to have real feelings toward one another, but the affection is buried in wounds. This is a legitimate concern. Even if everyone is exposed/confronted and promises to be good to each other, on going support is helpful. May everyone who grew up/is growing up in this type of household find healing.

I took vacation from hello counselor because of people like him. How does he expect his son to love him when all he does is be hateful to him? He’s the parent, he’s the one who teaches his kids how to feel, express love and be kind. His son is going to repeat the same abuses, and will use him as an excuse 😏

I am so glad that a show like this exists in Korea, where pain and hurt in people's relationships can be talked about and worked toward healing. What a great show. If we had something like this in the US, I wonder if it would not get crazy like the Geraldo Show - but it could be useful if helpful celebrities helped talk about pain in people's lives on TV so people can become more attuned to addressing emotional pain and suffering.

It's amazing how kids can sense these types disparity in their parent's attention towards their siblings and themselves. I myself experienced this as a kid, mum cared more about my younger brother than myself. I asked my mum then, and she told me that it was because he was a "weakling". I guess I understood what she meant. The end.

@@kalyaniwengappulli4933 Kids are very observant and sensitive contrary to what general Asian adults say "kids are dumb". If parents treat siblings differently, the one receiving lesser affection will start feeling insecure and probably screw with his/her mental well state. So no. Some people just aren't ready and shouldn't be parents but it is what it is.

I STARTED CRYING WHEN THE ELDEST WAS TALKING, HE LOOKS SO SAD😭 POOR BABY. On a side note, when the father was talking about his eldest son’s proudest moments you could see the son trying to fight back a smile. I feel like he doesn’t want to show his emotions in front of his father because he has pent up anger and fear so instead he tries to cover it up. Anyways I’m still crying and I’ve never watched this show before so now I think I’m hooked

I thought that if his childhood was that worse, he would not repeat the same mistake on his kids. But in most cases, it turns out the bad way. This Dad isn’t so bad, he expresses his feelings towards his oldest son, too. Unlike the previous same case of bad Dad, the Dad treated Jian - his oldest son like trash and even worse that he couldn’t hug his son sincerely like what this Dad did here. I hope that this Dad will treat his sons equally after the show, and try to teach them manners well but still express love to them after punishment

I was crying a lot as I relate the part where sometimes the father hit his eldest son. I grew up with strict parents and I have a younger brother. Sometimes when he got angry at either of us, he hit us pretty hard that sometimes it left a bruise the next day. I sometimes told my friends how strict they are and how they sometimes hit me when they're mad and they said that their parents have never done those kind of things such as hitting them or punch them. Relating the eldest son with me and my brother made me flashback to the times where our parents were so strict and violent. I'm just glad that during the time I got stronger, my brother also got stronger with joining some kind of self-defense activities and as soon as it started, my parents hit us much lesser than before.

My father was tougher on my older brother and also had severe anger issues but just like we see hints of the older son succeeding in sports helping the relationship, my brother becoming a very good wrestler helped my dad find a common hobby by always going to my brothers matches to take photos and really helped my dad become a better father. Those four years were the best times for my family as my dad was involved and instead of being scary and unapproachable he became one that rooted for my brother and was proud of his success. My brother even gave my dad his championship ring. I wish those days continued but I truly hope this father learns his lesson before it’s too late like my father whom took his own life after things went south after my brother went off to college.

My dad is the same way, he favors my younger sister and my older sisters and I just deal with it. He did the same thing and scolded us when we fell instead of asking if we were ok. Eventually I just always put on a face and never admitted when I was injured. I really could relate when the first son he didn’t really care that his dad loved his younger brother more. Obviously it hurts, but at some point you just give up. They’re never going to change or love you the way they are supposed to, so why keep your hopes up? I have given up on my father completely, I have no love for him at all. And I have no problem with that, I am very strong believer in care over genetics, genetics doesn’t mean shit if you don’t actually treat people right. Stop letting your family control you with the idea that you can’t cut off family. Toxic people are toxic people no matter what the relation, and toxic people need to be cut out of your life. Don’t let your family guilt trip you into think that you can’t cut them off. They are not worth it and you are worth more.

I felt happy when the father and the son started bonding bc when I was young I never got to feel any comfort or love from my father bc he was always out a lot and wouldn't come back for days, he might've gone through a lot but his bond with his father made me cry, ever since my parents divorced 6 years ago it hasn't been the same but his bond with his father made my day. I never really got to bond with my father since he didn't really care about us, 6 years later and i've grown up without a father to look up to. It was recently fathers day and everyone spent time with their fathers and having a great day however I couldn't do that and celebrated it with my mom instead, it hurts to see other kids who still have a father but I've come to accept that sometimes families don't work out and I'm sure there's lots of other people who are also going through the same thing so it's good to know that i'm not alone :')
