What would you recommend for a very creatively minded young marketer who thought she should learn something from marketing operations as well so that she would understand more faces of marketing to do a better job as a marketer, but now is stuck in marketing operations, and despite trying hard to move up, people only offer her secretary positions despite having an MBA degree, despite having several years of experience in marketing from both the corporate and startup world, despite being multilingual, despire working hard to get a good mix of skills, and despite having experience in leading and supervising people? I do not look for miracle positions like being a CMO of a large company, I just want to move up to a more senior marketing or branding position that is not the complete rookie level, but that does not sell me short either. I am also at a disadvantage because I am from a small EU country and am constantly being overlooked for positions - they go to Germans, or Brits. or Swiss people.... I am very desperate for advice. Thank you very much.

I would recommend: A) A strong portfolio. Employers will look past lack of experience, lack of credentials, heck, even character flaws.... as long as you have a strong portfolio. B) You have a belief that you're being stopped by external forces. You have to let that go. The only thing stopping you is your beliefs. It's very simple to let that belief go. Yes, difficult. But very simple. :)
