In terms of the almost-disbandment, the impression I got was that while they had always dreamed of succeeding, the DEGREE of international success they hit was wildly beyond what they could possibly have imagined, and they genuinely found that degree of fame a bit scary. Suga in particular has made references to how scary their fame is/was on more than one instance (most notably a poem he wrote during a Run BTS episode called "What a Relief" as well as in his song Interlude: Shadow). I think in 2018 they really had to take a good, hard look at whether that was something they wanted to continue with. I think they had a very realistic understanding of how much their lives would change if they continued forward.

So true ... especially as half of BTS are introverts and SUGA having anxiety attacks since before the debut, the fame of 2016 to 2018 increasing especially outside of Korea was overwhelming. Also family members of some of the members died when they had been touring, so that I think also played into the whole 'should we disband' talks. 2018 also records the 7 year mark (they were all together since 2011) which is usually the time when KPop bands disband because the members do not renew their contracts or the agencies pull the plug. And we all know the saying 'seven year itch' where most relationships seem to either overcome whatever or break up.

Great reaction man. The lyrics to this song have such a deep meaning to them. It's hard not to get emotional which Jhope showed on stage. It was written when they were having thoughts of disbandment. I look at each members part as how they would react to it. "You're my tear" "You're my fear" We as ARMY are always afraid of the day we hear the news that BTS is disbanding. But it's also bittersweet at the same time. Because we think of their futures. Seeing them raise their own family. Their songs Louder than Bombs and Bulletproof the Eternal make me cry because they make me think about the day it's over. But in a way, it'll never truly be over. Even after they, and the generations they raised are long gone, they will be remembered as legends. Because legends never die.

If we consider the reactions during the MAMA 2018 acceptance speech, it seemed that Tae was the one who was spearheading the break-up thoughts, because he lost a family member during the time they were promoting non-stop and he wasn't able to go home for fear of losing momentum (or maybe he wasn't allowed). He couldn't even get time off to grieve. The stress piled up and then the possibility (to break up) came up. Also, I want to add that the fact that Jin was the one to reveal to ARMY about their possibly break up, which Hobi only hinted at, was strategic, because Jin was the one member who could make that call and take full responsibility for it, being the eldest and having the most authority. He puilled the hyung card in this instance (hyung means the elder, whose authority is unquestioned). Even NamJoon didn't make that call to just come out and reveal that.

Their affection for each other really knows no bounds, like their relationship is so deep. It's one of the most heartwarming and wholesome things to watch, and it's so rare to have that level of a bond between friends. If you ever need something super heartwarming and happy to watch, there's many videos that give a peek into their beautiful bond. And you'll discover it as you go. It's just so obvious how much they love each other, made even more clear by the fact that they aren't afraid to verbally or physically express their love. It's also fascinating to see the differences in how each member expresses their love. There are videos of them writing letters/poems to one another, giving compliments (very common for them lmao), cuddling, feeding each other food, reflecting on the past/future/each other and just so honestly talking about each other in such loving ways, very adorable acts of kindness, they say "I love you" a lot, missing each other when alone/some are not there, etc. They're the most loving family. It just makes your heart feel so full when you see, for example, Hobi becoming so overwhelmed with affection that he just grabs Jimin and holds on tight. Or seeing Yoongi say he cried alone in the bathroom when Jungkook got injured because he was so worried. Or seeing Jungkook talking so many times about how much RM inspires him and how he looks up to him. How they all basically raised Jungkook from the time he joined them at age 13. How Suga and Jin go fishing a lot, but Suga admitting that he doesn't really enjoy it that much, he just agrees to go when Jin asks because Jin loves it and gets all excited about it. Another fascinating thing is their bonds within the group. Literally, if you pick two random people from the group, their dynamic is different from another two random people. Like the dynamic between RM and Suga is TOTALLY different from the dynamic between RM and Jungkook, or between Suga and Jin, or Jimin and V, etc. And then there's stuff like (for ex.) if you add Jin to RM and Suga, the dynamic will suddenly completely switch up. And yet each dynamic is so heartwarming, and you can clearly see how much love they have for one another. The CEO even said they dyingly love each other. There are even songs that they've written to each other! Like Outro: Tear, or "Friends" by Jimin and V reflecting on their own friendship, or "Begin" by Jungkook talking about how he feels when his older brothers (or "hyungs") are in pain, etc.

That speech still makes me cry so much....when i watched the awards on a live stream I started crying and couldnt stop for over 3 hours. Ive always been quite closed off emotionally before BTS. They have opened me up so much I am more demonstrative with my children and grandchildren. These guys can make me laugh, cry and just about all emotions inbetween and I dont know how they did it but I love that they did. Ive been a fan now since 2017 when they found me and Ive never regretted being a fan regardless of the strange looks I get or the derogatory comments. Recently somebody said to me oh i dont like them and I asked have you listened to any of their music and they said no. I said then how come you dont like them and he said the fandom to which I replied shouldnt judge the fandom by the negative things you see or hear we are so large there are bound to be bad apples I also said go listen to them if you dont like the music thats fine but dont judge them by any other criteria. Its unfortunate that people sometimes judge the boys without listening to them because of outside influences. I sometimes run into "negative" fans I tend to ignore them they dont promote the boys message at all. Specially the ones that have "their point of view" and wont accept that other fans have other views. We are all allowed to have different beliefs same as with religion or politics..... it would be a strange world if we all viewed things exactly the same way. Oh and im still an introvert and always will be but my emotions now flow much more freely and my best friend of over 40 years (not a BTS fan but Im working on it) told me when i mentioned them etc that I had finally found my passion and that is so true. Im thankful that I got to find BTS during my lifetime as im a "golden age" army. Ive always loved music but over the last few years before I found BTS i was finding less and less modern music that I connected too the guys changed that for me and opened me up to so much and I will forever be thankful to them. They feel like honorary grandchildren to me (they are similar in ages to my real grandchildren). Sorry about the long azz comment!!!! Borahae !!!!

I've been an ARMY since Dec 2014, so I've been around a long time... I remember this award show happening (it was their 3rd time getting Artist of the Year in a row at this award show which was *insane*) and ofc, while its going, there's no subs, so we had no idea what was being said until it started going around that Jin said early in 2018 they had considered breaking up and it was just... all at once, it was the entire ARMY internet freaking out and crying because We were always like "BTS won't break up. they love each other. they love us, they love what they do". it never occurred to us how terrifying this steep incline of fame was for them, but then we looked back at early 2018 and it made a lot of sense. They were so quiet early in the year. They turned down the Olympics so that they could take a much needed break for their mental health in fact and it wasn't until almost a year later we realized any of that. BTS continue to talk about how they know this fame won't last forever, yet at the same time, they haven't reached up. They talk about how they want to be together for decades, and I think they can. We do have at the very least another 5-6 years with them as they renewed their contract for another 7 years. I think they can be one of those groups that go on for decades if they want, and I think they've finally reached a place where they're comfortable with themselves and their growth. It took a lot getting there. I just wish I could tell them that ARMY aren't going anywhere. Even at their concert a few months ago, they were talking about how scared they were that there weren't any ARMY left because, even though the numbers were still there, they hadn't seen us in 2 years. I know I'm an ARMY for life. Unless something... bad happens as in any of them do something bad, then I'm going to stick around, but knowing how *good* of people they are (literally, everyone who has ever interacted with them has only ever had nice things to say about them. Nobody has ever been able to say a bad thing about the members when they've met them) I truly don't think that'll happen. BTS are definitely one of the most important things in my life. They've made me cry tears of happiness more in the last 2 years than anything else ever has before combined. I just love them so much and I want to make all their dreams come true.

I think without their hardships and their emotional struggles they would not be as strong as they are right now. It's reminds me that Vlive that Jimin does, in april 2018... he talk about the struggles he have, the way he watch over and over again this video when Army sing for them "forever we are young", saying how its' difficult to talk about his struggles with the other members because they all have struggles too, and how they decided to gathered a few days without working, just talking and chilling together... I was very touched by what he said (as always on Jimin's Vlive, he really talk to us heart to heart ) but it's only make sense for real when I see the MAMA 2018 and understand what was the point in late 2017 early 2018. So heartbreaking. And so understandable : they were in such a roller coster, so high, so speed, (with an amount of hate that encreased too, aka death threats against Jimin in 2017) ) , so scary . Being the genuine and humble boys that we know, they probably think that it was too much, too far, being afraid of lost themselves, and their passion from music under the pression and the fame, maybe afraid of the fall after the rise. Suga's poem "What a relief" seems very clear to me. I'm so happy that they could clear their mind, and continue their path, look at them , now ! Their smile and happiness at the AMA 2021 ! They still faced some difficulties, prejudices and injustice, but they are stronger than ever . (sorry for my poor grammar )

Oh boy this award show still brings me to tears. I was new ARMY at the end of 2018, only about 4-5 months as a fan but I can tell you that I was broken once I saw the translations of what was being said. I swear that you could hear the collective shock going through the audience once Jin mentioned them disbanding. I can't even begin to imagine how pre-debut and debut ARMY were feeling at this time but I tend to think it was worse because they had more of a connection to the boys than I did during this moment. I watched fancams of other idol group who were in tears too and I think out of everyone there they understand the struggle the most for their industry. I'm happy that they were able to pull themselves back up together as a group and haven't lost the desire to continue on for who knows how long into the future. My biggest lesson learned here: Request time off work for end of the year shows because I'm a zombie after staying up until 6-7 am. Having a breakdown ugly cry didn't help things either but I hope that seeing these clips gives you a better understanding about how BTS are different along with our connection with one another.

Actually, from the first time I listened it, I knew it's not a 'breakup' song. So i cried a lot at first listen. I'm K army and i talked about 'its somthing weird' with K armys. Not only me but some armys sensed something strange.(and right before this /Let go/ was released)So we can't say that any ARMY didn't know at first. Furthermore, Members posted something deep thoughts at that time, so I was anxious. When I was actually interpreting it, I couldn't thought that it was about the members, but about the fans. So I've listened it only few times at that time. It was too hurt for me. I couldn't speak because I could only guess. And then, Joonie did an album review, but he couldn't say much about this song. So I could tell it's really something. Then their variety show went on a break too. I thought the contract renewal would come soon, so I was sad to see if it would end like this. After a while, they were actually discussing a contract renewal at that time, and I just nodded at the fact that they were contemplating whether to quit.

Hobi and Jin usually are not prone to cry, so to see them break down in front of us, in front of a whole audience, hit home how serious the situation must’ve been. That there was a possibility that we wouldn’t see them anymore. That our community, this relationship between us would be no more. That night after they went backstage for press interviews and pictures Taehyung/V wasn’t able to speak at all because he was still crying so much. And the fact that they try to be so honest with their emotions is one of the things that I love about them. I feel so protective of them.

I actually still learning more about BTS everyday!! Enjoy the journey!!! RM is very intelligent, humble, and talented!! He to me.. is the ultimate Renaissance man!

I loved the video and the premiere also!!! I think it's a great way to interact with the #couchcrew. The boys worked so hard and deserved that award, that was 2018 and at that time they had been together for more than 5 years and never taken a break, not even a week of vacation, never had a few days to rest. This year was the first time ever they were able to spend the holidays with their families. They have always been so hard working, so it's really hard to watch how much struggle they had at that time to even consider disband, and you can see it by how the broke down during that speech. They are very kind and loving people and deserve to be happy.

We really have not seen them since the end of last Year. I think they are getting ARMYs use to them too g to the military and or having a life out side of celebrity BTS. In ITS RM said he did not know how to be normal. He did not know how to do thing other people his age are doing. That was the first that came to mind when BH said they r taking a break and if u see them leave them alone

I watch a lot of BTS reactions on KZbin but there is something different about this community that is being created through this channel as you are starting your BTS journey 🥰 listening to the end of this video made me understand why I love watching these reactions so much - I don’t have anyone in real life to share these things with so through these videos I get to relive all these memories with you and this community, so thank you!! Fame is difficult to handle. It brings money but the constraints it puts on the lives of the famous is hard. Despite having suffered depression and social anxiety SUGA has said several times on camera that he wants them to be together forever. Watching their speeches at that award show is heartbreaking. Even RM shed a few tears. It’s good that no one cries alone in BTS. There is always another member who will comfort them. Military service will be their next big test. Being away from the support they give each other will be hard. It’s not an easy 20 months for any Korean man.

I am so thankful they decided to stay together. I didn't become ARMY till 2020 and I never would have found them if they had disbanded. They bring e such joy in my daily life. If i don't listen to them at least once a day I just don't feel right. Their music has become one of the only things I listen to now. And I find a new song all the time. I just saw another reacation to LOVE MAZE for the first time and had to add it to my play list that minute!! They are such a joy to watch, listen to, and learn about.

The speech broke so many hearts the day it came out. Your reaction is basically how we reacted, when we heard the speech. We could barely speak, our tears were flowing and we rode the whole emotional rollercoaster. For most of the ARMY, we had no clue that they were considering disbandment. 2018 was a VERY big year for BTS, especially internationally so to hear what they said in the speech was just shocking.

Looking forward to the start of your deep dive. As others have suggested, the Rise of Bangtan series is a great way to move through the content systematically in a timeline. The episodes summarize their journey in small chunks of time and provide a lot of context for what they were going through at that point in time. So watching episodes 1 & 2 and the music and MVs from 2 Cool 4 Skool along with other content like Rookie Kings and KKUL FM shows really immerses you in what 2013 was like for them. And since their songs are a reflection of who they were when they wrote them, they make more sense. Or at least it was easier for me to understand how to interpret what was going on. But everyone will have a different approach. It's like do you really have to watch the Clone Wars to know what's going on in the Book of Boba Fett? Maybe not, but it sure makes it a lot more fun to watch.

I’m pretty sure the talk of disbandment came about during the contract negotiations. They re-signed a year before their rookie contract ended so their decision was a pretty enthusiastic affirmative probably bc they liked the terms and had all realized they didn’t want to break up but they HAD to seriously talk about leaving before signing up for another seven years. They had an overwhelming success, no precedent for it, besides the nasty way the US ignored Psy after they were done with him. Then Korea acted both proud and like the never pleased parent. They heralded BTS as the nation’s boy group but did everything to keep them in their ‘place.’ It’s a horrible spot to be in. ‘Nominated for an award that Koreans rarely get? Yay! But you didn’t get it and we’ll talk about that more than your nomination! We’ll also specially broadcast the US award show and talk about other groups more than you.’ That sort of thing.

this speech never fails to make me cry. it was such an emotional roller coaster, one minute armys were celebrating and the next one we see hobi the sunshine of the group breaking down on the stage, the rest of the members following right after. i remember how army translators who were live translating the speech just went silent when jin dropped the bomb. we never knew that they were considrring disbanding, so when the translations started finally coming through, an utter chaos happened. armys just couldn't stop crying, it was so heartbreaking knowing the boys were going through such difficult times but i like to think everything happens for a reason and the boys came out of it even stronger than before, making armys even prouder if that's even possible.

I just found this wonderful channel a couple of hours ago and I'm hooked! Not only by the BTS content, but how intelligently you approach them and their work is so beautiful. As someone who has been on the BTS journey since day one, I always love finding other people's own journeys. Especially people with open minds who don't immediately judge them off of what they see from a first glance, because it's so much that I see even still to this day, it is so rooted in bias and racism and just really disgusting aspects of the world. So it always brightens and lifts my heart that new people are joining the family that genuinely want to be a part of it and them. You have created a beautiful space for people to feel safe in. More backstory: In Nov 2017, BTS performed DNA at the American Music Awards, and it was the first time a k-pop act had ever performed at an American awards show. In Festa 2018 (which takes place every Jun) Suga shared that he cried in the shower after the AMAs. “It was beyond what I had imagined. I could not even have dreamed of it. When I was showering, I felt pressured and lost about what we were supposed to do from then on.” That AMA moment was a HUGE turning point for them. It was the catalyst that led to them thinking of disbandment, but ultimately it was also the catalyst that launched the next phase of growth that they eventually became grateful for. This makes it extra special the first (and so far only) Artist of the Year Award they've won in the US happened just a few months ago at the AMAs. 🙂

I am so happy I found your channel. You are an amazing person. I seriously love your discussions, you are a very wise man and I am happy that we have such people like you within ARMYS. When you said about "people do not have who to share with these BTS moments, that is why they seek it on the internet, on these platforms" I started crying, because that is so true. BTS is one of the few things in life that makes me happy, and I believe many ARMYS feel the same. having on mind that there are always more things in life we don't enjoy rather than things that makes us happy, that is just how life is for everyone. Therefore, watching BTS reactions and talking with other ARMYS on social platforms feels so joyful. English is not my first language therefore, sorry that I am not able to articulate my self to the highest potential. But I wanted to say thank You. There are too many fake BTS reactions in the youtube, therefore, I want You to know how much I appreciate your videos and your presense. I am sure many ARMYS feel the the same way about You as I do. New AMIs always think 🤔 I can figure this out myself, but if you factor in the Korean Cultural references, the entire BTS Universe, Jungian theory, Herman Hesse and all of their literary and societal references and inspirations - as well as their own deeply personal feelings and philosophies - it’s ok to get help from the right sources, especially AMI. Outro Tear marks a pivitol turning point for Bangtan Sonyeondon and is the perfect end for their Love Yourself Tear chapter of the LYS series. It is my all time favorite BTS song💜

I hv wrote this same comment on your outro tear reaction..so I'll paste it here as well.. about song & their thought of disbandment : *This song was written by the rap line of BTS (RM, Suga and J-hope) The lyrics symbolizes what a breakup means to each, it was tears for RM, tearing apart for Suga and for J-hope it was fear Suga about Outro: Tear --> "The lyrics were written for the members; when I was writing the melody, at that time, we were contemplating whether we should quit or not. When I played the song for the members, we all cried together"* I think it is fair to say that much of the stress that led to BTS members having to reevaluate their careers came from the exponential growth of their popularity and the unanticipated demands this placed on them...Their original Idol platform origins did not predict worldwide large arena then stadium concerts with millions globally having constant eyes and opinions on them..So disbandment due to pressure was on the table for BTS which had different members managing the pressures differently..but BTS members always had talk things out and come to solutions. All were able to evaluate the future, whether they could continue the evolving project with the kind of group and individual joy which was necessary. Outro: Tear reflects on the deepest emotions that were involved with that process: sadness, the sense of things being ripped apart, and fear of the consequences. BTS is number one because they consistently share whether emotions or messages. Outro: Tear is one of those cases where they share something both personal and difficult. (Cr. Eric)

Roscoe ~ it is such a huge discography, even for us that have been ARMY for years. Going back to the beginning is wonderful, but daunting especially when you want to toss on a BTS PL and jam out to the tunes. Only thing I suggest is, go back to Daechwita and watch that Korean interpretation. Its imperative to understand all the Korean nuances that are there, that pass over our Western heads. Gives a whole new meaning to the video. Love what you do, keep it up, DO YOU!
