Here is my personal theory: "K-pop idol" has traditionally been a temporary job. Almost nobody but a small handful of other idols have had careers as long as BTS. Idol groups are intended to be consumed, disposed, and replaced with new idols every few years. This might explain why the industry goes so hard at BTS. They want to clear the table for the next meal, so to speak. Anyway, it's very likely the members expected to be living a relatively non-celebrity life by now - hanging with non-celeb friends, starting families, dating, spending time with their parents/siblings. But that didn't happen. It might feel extremely unsettling to try doing these everyday things and discover you feel unequipped, awkward, unsure of how to do otherwise 'normal' things - like be at a party with old friends, picturing a family of one's own, navigating a relationship problem, or even fitting back into one's own family unit. Roscoe, I think your military experience will enable you to see the crib scene the way I see it. I went away to college at 17, and then moved to the other side of the country for a job that takes me literally all over the world. Not doing exciting things like BTS, but the result was that I matured outside the view of my family. Going to see my parents is still very challenging because I became an adult on my own, so to speak. Understandably they still see me as the youngest kid from a small Oregon town. Now imagine the disconnect if you became an adult by being a member of BTS, and then try to fit back into your family of origin. Most BTS members were literally children when they left their homes to grow up. I noticed the scenario he ran away from the fastest (and was not revisited) was the one that could be interpreted as being chased by a fan. He definitely doesn't feel like that's his right place. RM is uncomfortable in all these scenes of everyday experiences he imagines. At the same time he wants to find his right place. Then he meets a fellow traveler searching for the same thing. FYI the actor playing this woman is Kim Min-ha, who also was plucked from obscurity and rocketed to super stardom practically overnight. If anyone can relate, it's her. So they comfort each other, and perhaps begin to know they really can do these things, be the right person in these places. The scenes then replay with RM feeling at ease with friends, with a family of his own, dealing with relationship conflicts, being a son to his parents again. The two of them then head outside, a little nervous, but ready to go find their own right place in the world.

II love your insight, but I think that the female rather than being someone that is struggling as well, is his inner self, his soul, even his anima. Then he realize that he doesn't need to be something or be with someone to be happy, he only need himself, hes the only one that has the key to open the door (aka his happines) and when he has that epiphany, he starts to enjoy life.

Namjoon best artist of all k-pop industry, he is a unique artist. He did not make songs following trends only for money and views, he creates art. Theory: This song is about choices, hence the name "right place, wrong person", is like situations and destinations that we changed when making a wrong decision, every door was not made to open, unless it is with the right person in Right place and in the right time. Absolutely amazing cinematography. He has shown himself through his musical taste and described in the best way possible, because he is not running away from responsibilities will not take you anywhere, in the second that you take responsibility for your actions, life starts to get easier and doing sense. The way I see "Spring's always been here" is that BTS, and Joon especially, always say "spring will come" meaning better days will come and you will be hapier. Spring has always been here would mean that happiness is always available to you. It's there if you look for it.

RM is an avid student of Carl Jung. He’s used Jung’s philosophy in many of BTS’s lyrics. In my opinion, this video is about the Animus and Anima. According to Jung, the Animus represents the masculine aspect that is often suppressed in women while the Anima represents the feminine aspect that is suppressed in men. So when he looks at himself and then the camera turns back and then there’s that woman… that’s the female side of him that has been repressed. When he stops repressing her, he is at peace, and all of his relationships come to peace as well. ;)

i was going to say this. I think when he said "Spring has always been here" it never left him; but HE forgot how to find it. He had to find it again. Find his inspiration, his happiness. The one thing I can definitely say is I absolutely love that he gave us this beautiful gift of a song and has us having deep conversations. I also enjoy folks different takes bc of their own personal journeys. THIS is what makes music amazing; it can touch us in so many different ways and bring us to a different understanding that we may need for our own personal sakes. Chris Martin said in his Carpool Karaoke w/ JC when JC sang an incorrect lyric. "What did you sing?" And JC repeated it and then asked "is that wrong?" and Chris said "that is not what I sing but ok." and JC said "Oh what is it?" and Chris just kind of smiled and said something like "whatever you want it to be." I loved that. (also paraphrasing the encounter bc it was a while ago). Joonie's song is beautiful and this MV is pure art. loved the discussion 🥰

Because he is SO introspective and a bit harsh on himself, I wonder if he was the wrong person , meaning good things were happening, good people and opportunities coming to him but he wasn't in the right space to accept it. Now, he has been guided to a place of acceptance and is ready to accept joy for himself. And there are cou bless options for him. May or may not be the case, but this MV has a lot of similarities to scenes in the book "The Midnight Library" which Tahyung and Joonie read in In the Soop 2. The premise of the book is the main character attempts suicide, and she goes into a limbo library, with a librarian (which may be the woman in the middle of the video) that leads her to these "doors" to certain past events in her life and she chooses whether to change her past decisions.

To me RM is expressing his appreciation of Surrealism. He understands the juxtaposition between current societal realities and norms, with the desire to set ourselves free to dream, yearn, and become our new or even unconscious selves. He has accomplished his Surrealistic self in this dreamlike mini movie. His music and art appreciation have become his manifesto here in "Come Back to Me". Daebak.

Perhaps the concept of 'right place, wrong person' doesn't necessarily refer to another individual, but rather to the individual in question at a different stage in life. It's like Joonie's own song says 'things change, people change, everything changes'. There are moments and opportunities in life that we may not fully appreciate or embrace due to personal or emotional barriers, or simply because we haven't matured enough yet. At times, we may be ready for new experiences, but external circumstances or a lack of opportunities prevent us from pursuing them. However, when the circumstances align and we are open-minded and mature enough to seize the moment, great things can happen.

My take is If you know RMs work every mix tape and album is different from the last. He is continuously pushing boundaries. In way thats what is also happening in the mv. RM wanders around confused and unhappy through all these potential lives and expectations never being comfortable. We see this has been so since he was small. At some point he becomes more comfortable in each scenario but still doesnt stay, he moves on finds himself and accompanies the woman( his other missing half? Either Jungian or Plato) out of the maze of societies expectations to find non of it's real. In the light he sees its all fake sets designed and created by someone else. There are several clues for ARMY buried within the MV. Pain Devine. During a conversation piece with Pharrell Williams they discussed judging lyrics by how painful they are to produce ...pain divine, devine inspiration?

Well, for me this is the interpretation of the song, Namjoon shows us different scenarios of his life, opening different doors, him being a dad with his family, him being a husband, but as we can see at the beginning in none of these scenarios he is happy It is as if he were looking for that person who understands him and with whom he genuinely wants to be, he has even been looking for that type of feeling since he was little with his parents, we can also see how they show us a door that he sees but cannot open, it may be his ideal scenario, where he really wants to be. Now, when he is with the woman who appears looking for him in the house and then he goes after her also trying to find her and in the end they sit down to talk you can see how he is happy when he is with her, and immediately he is happy in his other scenarios, even when she calls him at the end of the video we can see how he can open that door that he wanted to open so much and we see that there is no other scenario, it is just them walking freely 🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️

Hi there, Roscoe. A pleasure to be here always. Loved all the digging and round-abouting...to come to conclusions mid-way and yet clearer conclusions towards the end. I am personally figuring that the thing or person Joon wants to 'come back to me' is actually him calling happiness to come back into his life. Because you know, enough of the shadows. Don't you love the way this filmette was shot? From the ideation to the props to the most minute of details (i need to explore that tangrrine a little more - i mean, the reason why it is there in the first place...right? Right..??), the amazing lighting throughout, the great direction of the cast - and the 'how to come to a piece of art conveying our Joonie's lyrics' since he penned them. You do know there are 5 MVs in total out of this 11-song RPWP album that Joon has gifted us, right? I was thinking about the girl and how her dress changes to a dark purple shade before Namjoon and her leave thru the door. She could represent Army because of what the lyrics are saying "Please come back to me" Joonie is like a siren calling us back. And the set itself reminds me of Jhope mv "More" Jack in Box at the end of the video you see that Jhope is literally in a box inside of the set. Like a picture with in a picture. Also the lights on the door are the three primary colors in a watercolor paint set and those colors if you mix them you get the color purple.

My theory: In the country of the k dramas, RM presents us the different dramas that you create and choose in each scene set. Even when the things get better because he have a change of attitude is not his real self. She is the truth the real self and invites him to get out of all the painful s drama even from the good ones to pursue the reality and the truth. Notice they get out bare feet’s cutting attachments to those dramas. Come back to me is a call to his real self. Also notice the circle of different colors look like the chakras but in a inverted position.

Relating to the baby Jooni, maybe he wants to say that after finding himself (or somebody like him) he will be able to be a good husband or lover, a good son (maybe he thinks he couldn't be a good son to their parents because of his "no-adjustment" to "normal" life). Oh! I love this! NAmjoon gave us another puzzle to build... and it can have so many interpretations!! Relating to the doors: Did you notice that all the door in the hall guided him to especific roles (family, love, etc), but the door he and his partner (soulmate or himself) chose guide an entire new world, with numerous options. I'd say, that door represent the unkown future, a challenge just possible to a Jooni who knows who he is or at least, who he doesn't want to be. And the references to his brothers' MVs (More, Shadow, Like Crazy, Fi(end)s? He's a genius in all he does!! Edit: You said "if Jooni is not happy, nobody is"... I think that is exactly what he thinks, I mean, If he's not well with himself, he can't be a good husband, lover or son, making them sad. I was thinking that we forgot to chain the MV to the lyrics. He says "come back to me" and it's clearly not talking about a certain person... I think he's talking to his life, the life of a normal man, since so far he's lived a public (artist) life, having to sacrifice his natural man's wishes.

Namjoon likes to reflect on life. I think we all feel awkward at some point. It feels like we are impostors and not sure which way to go. Some people feel out of place, strange and don't seem to belong. But with time and maturity they understand that they don't need to please others because each person has different expectations and meeting them all is impossible. This way, you start to make choices and seek happiness internally, regardless of what is happening externally.

Their meeting eventually lightens up Namjoon (note that they are wearing the same fabric of clothes), and their little catch-up can be seen as self-awareness. Minha allowing Namjoon to open the door can signify self-acceptance with a nod of assurance. Minha’s appearance is short because she might be portraying the other side of Namjoon.After meeting himself through Minha, every place he was in, his expression changed. If we are to put the album title in the picture, Right Place, Wrong Person - you will be the wrong person in every place there is without knowing yourself first. By trying to fit in, we lose sight of who we are because we become preoccupied with maintaining the standards set by others.

Lee Sung Jin, the MV director, said he and RM shared a lot of stories and came upon a story about a man that was stuck in a house with his PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE. Doors have always been very symbolic. The door with the three different colored circles could mean PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE . Triptych architecture in history has also had symbolisms for past, present and future or for harmony like life and death, man and woman, Yin and Yang, the moon and the sun with the middle piece being the connection, our enlightenment, a third eye, a doorway to inner happiness. Also the different colors and lighting keep changing and I believe when they finally go through the door the three colors on the door are red, green and blue and I know RM has mentioned RGB before. He's also mentioned multiverses and reading The Midnight Library (many similarities to this MV). The girl throughout and at the end is "him", it's his anima/animus which he manifests to guide him. It was lost and now that he has found it again or it has come back to him he is able to find peace and live his own life without regret. Right Place, Wrong Person. It's conceptional. The place isn't wrong but he (we) might feel wrong. The conceptual understanding is that we need to find ourselves, our own happiness to feel right wherever we are. "You’re always a little nervous when you’re working with these giant global superstars. Are they going to want to rehearse? Are they going to take notes? RM was game for everything. He was there for long hours. First take of the very first scene, he bent down and his head hit the camera and it was a giant gash on his eye and immediately I thought, “Oh great, I’m going to be deported immediately because I’ve just scratched this national treasure.” To his credit, he went to the hospital, got stitched up, came back and he was ready to go. He was so versatile and open to direction and I think he was also pushing me. He would come and check the monitor and be like, “Oh, I think we can get that one a little bit better.” He has an incredible team behind him too." - Lee Sung Jin

I loved your thoughts at the end! When you said that he's ready to finally see the truth when he is in front of that door?! I loved this idea a lot. And what's even cooler, we as the audience are shown the truth too when he opens that door! We are seeing the set, because that's the truth in this case, that's "behind the curtains" for us. And your words about being the wrong person for yourself - that hit home. How many of us believe that we need only to find the perfect job, the perfect place to live, the perfect person to be with and we'll finally be happy, be satisfied with our lives? Part of me wonders if he was telling himself that in order to deal with the grief of sacrificing everything that he did. when we see him go through the same scenes again but happy, I wonder if that means he’s finally allowing himself to grieve the good that could have happened had he chosen differently. But even after seeing how good those choices could have been, he still is compelled to choose the door, and live this life. it’s unknown and it’s scary, and it looks really different from all of these other ways life could have turned out, but it’s authentic to him.

Someone said that NamJoon may have been inspired by Matt Haig's book "Midnight Library", a book that Rm has been seen reading before... This is a novel about all the choices that life entails. It blew my mind, because at first I had a hard time understanding the meaning of the MV.

theories from a person who was streaming casually but ended up falling even more in love with the MV since it came out: Firstly the song is literally and only about himself, the MV shows 5 different realities, the first being him with his friends spending time causally, then with the family he formed with his wife and daughter, with an ex-girlfriend when he was young, with his parents during his childhood and with his persona. We see the clear transformation of his mood during the MV, first when he felt confused, lost and no longer saw himself as he was before, then he was probably depressed and didn't know what to do, he was just living in automatic mode but at the same time time he tried to escape from anything that was no longer fitting into his life. And then we have the persona which is the representation of that person who is not necessarily a girlfriend or sister but rather the person who guides you and who can put your head in place, when she finally finds Joon he can finally breathe and return to his own. feet, as this is a life story we can see that he had confusing moments during his childhood but later he managed to feel good with his own parents, he managed to feel at ease and happy when going out casually with his friends, even if he had moments After arguments with that ex-girlfriend, after a while they were able to resolve themselves and get back to normal in the relationship, just like with his own family he was only able to smile and feel good again, and finally walk out that door. Namjoon always writes personal songs and is always completely introspective, during indigo we can see up close how alone and lost he felt, so Come Back to Me was basically a free interpretation that he had difficult and lonely moments but in the end he had that door and himself as a sign that everything would be fine casually. Right place wrong person will certainly be another very interesting personal narrative to analyze.

Tangerine 🍊 = Yoongi (Heageum) Multiple Rooms = Hobi (More) Joonie facing Joonie = V (Fri(end)s) Female representing Joonie’s inner self = Jimin (Like Crazy) I am still trying to figure out Jin & JK At the very end where you see what looks like an infinite number rooms, you also see multiple versions of the same rooms. Each version of the same room represents a different possibility/option/choice in life. Each version of a room can represent both a time within Joonies life (past, present & future) but also a different version of Joonies state of mind/maturity within the past, present & future. The possibilities are infinite. When Joonie was in a room and wasn’t happy he was the wrong version of himself at that time. He kept trying to get through the door on the other side of the atrium but it was locked because he was the wrong versions of himself at that time. But then we see him happy in the same room where he was once unhappy. This is because he was the right version of himself at that time of his life and the door became unlocked allowing him to he finally open it and move onto the next stage of his life. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 💜🫰

During the bathroom/mother/daughter scene, look at the door behind him. It has the 3 colored circles and then one off the the side. Might that one refer to a side-direction that could be taken. BTW: I think the colored circles relate to from bottom to top: sea, earth and sky. Okay, he's daydreaming in the opening party scene, wondering am I in the right place? I could be married, in a relationship, or a better, more compliant child - everyone else's expectations of his life. But he realizes, he's right where he needs to be and his choices are valid. Acceptance and self-love and then he's back at the party - right place. Wrong person changed into right person when he learned to accept himself and his choices - not societys' or his parents' expectations.

In all the scenarios before he didn't belong, but now that he's met her/them, he's changed, he does belong. Spring's always been here - he just wasn't able to see it before. And, he's ready to embark on a journey to whatever awaits him.

Ok.. here's what I gathered after watching the mv for a couple of times and watching you analyize it with the couch crew: • In my opinion the numerous doors joon discovered are 'what ifs' that could have happened in his life.. for example he could hava had all the time to go out freely with his friends or settled down and made a family or had a relationship or may be lived with his parents and enjoyed time with his family.. all of these are things that maybe he had to sacrifice for the path he is currently in which is bts and being an idol. •As he is living all these 'what ifs.. we see him confused and distressed.. because that is not who he is now.. hence 'Right place Wrong person'. • As he is stumbling on the road of finding the right place he is supposed to be in, he comes across this door that he tries to open but he can't. For me it seemed like that door is the exit of this confusion but it won't open. •During all this confusion, he finds this other girl who is like him looking for the exit. And during all this, they find eachother. I like to think that the girl represents ARMY and we both found each other on our way of self discovery. • Because of the way they sat and talked with each other, it gives a sense of friendship and comradery. It feels like they found comfort in each other's presence. •The next part shows Namjoon actually enjoying all the what if scenarios.. Like the right person in the right place.. Which made me think that he made peace with these thoughts and sacrifices because he realises that maybe in another universe that could be him (He always talked about that). But his past and his present is what made him who he is .. and the other hims would be totally different persons with different experiences shaping their lives. •When the girl 'ARMY' urges him to leave all of this behind and come with her, they reach the door together and he takes in fresh air and procedes to open the door which opens this time. This made me believe that the door wouldn't open before because he was stuck and dwelling on the past. But now that he threw it all behind and cound peace. He could leave this maze to a new one. •The door opens and they march in together and we get a wide shot of the rooms he left behind and all the new rooms that he is gonna explore ahead not alone but with all of us together (represented by him and the girl walking forward together) because we're all trying to find ourselves and so we are together on this journey. This is my opinion of the mv.. We know that joonie was always honest about his thoughts of who he really is.. So I really appreciate this mv and that he added another character looking for their path as well.. so you can see yourself in it.. and know that you're not alone.. we've got a long journey ahead of us ARMY.. borahae 💜

I see this as a song to ARMY. All the bad sides that come out such as fighting against each other over their bias and other crummy stuff and him being in the crib is like fans infantilizing him even though he's a grown man...but at the end of the day ARMY has always been with him and he can move forward thanks to them no matter what

I agree, the video is intriguing and really gets you thinking. I love the calming vibe and RM's voice. Your interpretation about things representing the members is thought-provoking. So, hypothetically speaking, if the tangerines symbolize August D in Haegeum, the green blocks for J-Hope in "Jack in the Box," the couple kissing next to RM for V in "Fri(ends)," and Jimin's Set me free color scheme for the women and child with the toothbrush, as well as the lady throwing clothes and arguing with JK in "Seven Days a Week" in the laundromat scene. My opinion: This is us inside RM's mind. We are seeing him dealing with the thoughts of what he anticipated his life would potentially be. RM thought while I'm partying with people that may or may not matter should I instead have a wife and child. No that's not what I want right now. Maybe just a dating relationship but what if it doesn't work. I miss something but cannot put my finger on it. He's not a child anymore so please don't treat me that way. Who understands me better than my mother. Maybe she can give me some guidance. At the end of the day I now know me better and know what I want right now. I want to come back 'home'. 'Home' is where the heart is and right now his heart is his career and being with his members/brothers. Making music. Just my thoughts....💜

Something else I wanna throw out to you... the last part, where she guides him to the door, notice that she doesn't open that all-impt final door for him, he opens it himself, then they both walk through it. This reminds me of something from The Matrix... I can guide you there, but you're the one who has to walk through it... just like you can bring the horse to the water, but you can't make him drink, he has to want to do it himself. And RM knows that he has to open that door, he tried doing it before, but he couldn't. But now after meeting her, he's able to come to terms with all the different paths in his life, be it in the past, present or future, and once he has made peace with everything by seeing the positive and turning those various paths around, only then was he able to finally open that door with her by his side. Maybe that girl represents ARMY, and ARMY is his guide? LOL, I might be reaching on that last one! Seriously though, I think it's more likely that she is another facet to himself. At the beginning, he is a one-sided character, and everything is only seen one way, and that's not in a very positive light. But after he meets her, his character grows by taking on another facet to himself, then we see the same scenes play out in different ways, so there's more than one side to every story. And only when you grow into a muti-faceted person can you see the other side of things, and get to finally walk through that door. Not only that, but once you walk through that door, you'll realise that there is so much more to life than just those various scenes you were going through before. In fact, as they both walk out of the place, we actually don't know where they are going to, they are walking off into the unknown together. Actually, can you see the parallels between RM's music video and V's "Fri(end)s" music video? The concepts are rather similar in that V starts out in the status quo, where he's not in a relationship, and everyone else around him in happy and in love. Then after that, things change when he's in a relationship with a girl, and everyone around him is now arguing, while he's happy and fine. Then at the end, he wakes up in bed with himself, which reminds me of the scene where RM meets himself, just before things change for RM in his music video. Can you see what I'm saying here? The similarities? Or maybe this is V and RM's subtle way of telling ARMY that they would be happier if they were in relationships, or if they be allowed to date like everyone else normally does. Come to think of it, didn't JK's solo videos "Seven" and "Standing Next To You" also include a female partner? And Jimin's "Like Crazy" showed him wandering through the crowd and a female partner also wander through the crowd. So BTS wants to date in this next chapter? And they should, they are grown men in their 20s and 30s. Let's see if the remaining 3 members' solo works also include female partners... hmmm. Jin, not yet. Suga, also not yet. Jhope, also not yet? Coming back to the idea about The Matrix though... when they both walk out the door together, it's like they are exiting the maze of rooms, like they're exiting the construct or the constructed world, exiting The Matrix. Now they are in the real world... but even then, they're not entirely out of the labyrinth yet, just walking together to another part of the maze, 'cos this maze goes on into infinity, the way M. C. Escher's staircases go on into infinity.

Introspection: He can’t deal with the world without being inline with himself. The inner self, we must be inline with our inner self to move through the outer world successfully without confusion. We can feel this, even as kids. The inner voice. He keeps mentioning divine divine, the spiritual side. The inner side is closer to our truth self, than what we show to the world.
