I love shinee..all 5 members have a unique voice...although the best known member of the group is Taemin (both for his beautiful voice and his dance) every shinee member is an amazing artist. For example Onew is was one of the two artists within SM to be personally recruited by the CEO... they made a beautiful cover of his song (they are very good friends with IU and Jonghyun wrote a song for her).. on May 25th they celebrate 16 years of career

The litmus test of talent is the acoustic one. Known for their huge productions, both video and stage, SHINee can bring it down to a guitar and piano. And nothing is lost - musical quality is maintained and God given talent is revealed. I am an American and icons like Prince, George Michael come to mind when I think of those who have passed the acoustics test in spades. SHINee is young by comparison to them but in the same category when it comes to music integrity and longevity. SHINee is 16 years and counting. The fact that they know who James Ingram is a huge plus in my book. There's a video on YT where Minho asked ONew if he could sing the song "Forever More" by James Ingram. I freaked out of pure happiness and gratitude. I felt like "they know what talent sounds like" but I stand corrected. Because each recognizes their own.

SHINee's version of "Dear Name" is different than IU's original version, so if you haven't heard the original version, I encourage you to check it out. If you pay attention to the lyrics of the song you will see why this song is so meaningful to SHINee -- SHINee's version of the song is dedicated to Jonghyun, SHINee's main vocalist who passed away 3 years ago (6 years now). So, the "Dear Name" they are talking about is Jonghyun. Fun fact: IU's song "Gloomy Clock" -- one of her older songs -- was written by Jonghyun. Jonghyun and IU were really good friends and when she heard "Gloomy Clock" she asked him to give it to her. Jonghyun always said that after hearing IU sing "Gloomy Clock" he knew the song was meant for her, and in hindsight he thinks he might have subconsciously written the song with her in mind. Because IU and Jonghyun were so close, she knows the deep meaning "Dear Name's" lyrics have for all of them, so she was surprised that out of all of her songs, this was the one SHINee chose to sing -- that is why I think she was so still and quiet during their performance and didn't really look at them, because it was super emotional for all of them and she didn't want to cause herself or any of SHINee members to break down if they made eye contact. IU didn't sing with SHINee because the whole premise of this segment of the show is that they covered each other's songs. IU also did a cover of SHINee's song "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" in this same interview. Just wait until you hear just how unique and cool IU's remixed version was. Both covers are way different than their original versions. As you may know, IU is a solo Kpop artist who debuted 4 months after SHINee, who is known as "the nation's little sister." She is known for her amazing vocal range and for her cute bubbly personality. She is also one of Korea's top actresses -- she has even acted in a drama with Minho, who is also a top male actor. And she has had song collaborations with Key and Taemin when they were younger. In the show, IU actually mentioned how Onew was one of her favorite male voices and they talked about how they should do a collaboration together -- which I am sure would be heavenly. (Frankly, after more than 15 years, I'm surprised that they haven't collaborated together already.) Yes, all the members' voices are very dynamic. SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. Once you get to know their voices you will always be able to pick them out of a crowd just by the sound of their voice. The order you see the members of SHINee sitting in is the order that they always sit or stand in since debut days. They will always stand with Onew on the left, Taemin next to him, (Jonghyun in the middle,) Minho next and Key on the right. Even their starting positions in their choreography will often have them standing in this order. You almost never see them in interviews or in press photos, not in that order. (And just FYI: Those chairs didn't just come out for this performance, if you watch the whole show you will see they are sitting just like that for the whole interview.) SHINee are known for their ballads and for their amazing harmonies, that is why they are so highly respected in the industry. Their live vocals are unmatched and everyone in the industry idolizes them for the amount of talent they have. They are some of the best vocalists in the industry. And just think, Minho is the main rapper of the group. How often do you see a rapper that can sing as well as him? And notice how Onew doesn't even have his inner-ears in, so he is only relying on his voice to make sure he hits the right notes -- he actually says it's easier for him to sing when not wearing them. Onew is also known for his ability to hold notes for a very long time. He actually holds the record for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch -- 40+ seconds -- when he performed a cover of the song "Friend" in concert, kzbin.info/www/bejne/ombae3evoNRosJo. It will help you to get to know SHINee better and to learn a little more about IU. This interview will help you to understand why SHINee are so highly respected by their peers and what it was like in the early days for SHINee, etc. (SHINee were on the show promoting their "Don't Call Me" comeback, so this was in February 2021.)

I'm so happy to see you react to this. I found it on KZbin about a month ago and fell in love with the song. I've played it over and. I loved the guys' voices, so I went searching for more of their stuff. And I like what I found. But I did find the sad time they went through. One of their members, Jonghyun, committed suicide. Their tribute concert to him is...well, just make sure you have kleenex with you. I went and found the full IU Palette show where they were the guests. I highly recommend her show because she has a live band every show. IU, in turn, sang one of Shinee's songs. Roscoe, I don't think you've watched any of IU's interviews when she had JHope on, and Suga and V. I know you'd like them. Again, she sings with the guys. Then they each sing. It would be a fun visit to the past. Interestingly, V was on her show before she cast the lead in her MV. And that reconnection with him helped her decide to cast V. I hope you get to enjoy those shows sometime. I do have a reply comment about the suicide below. And, yes, that live band with those gorgeous voices is a repeat listen for me.

To think Onew was not SHINees main vocalist - his voice is so powerful and pure - in my opinion SHINee is the group most similar to BTS in their chemistry with each other, the overall quality of their music, their longevity, stage presence and diverse talent and skills. In their heyday they were huge and their performances spectacular - only Bangtan could beat them. Their power ballads are beyond mesmerizing and even heartbreaking especially between Jonghyun and Onew. Their Maknae, Taemin is a solo star in his own right and Jimin’s soul doppleganger - they are very close friends in real life. If you haven’t already, react to their live performance together - it’s legendary.
