DirectX12 vs Perf. mode latency & stutter test | 1080p | At 144, 240, and 360 FPS cap | Fortnite

In this video, I am showing you the input latency, FPS stutter and system usage difference between Performance mode vs DirectX12 on Low settings at three different FPS caps on my 7800x3D system: 144 FPS, 240 FPS and 360 FPS.
My System specs:
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC (rev 2.0)
MB: Asus strix B650E-F GAMING Wifi
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800x3D
RAM: 2x 16GB Kingston Fury RGB 5200mhz CL40
Cooler: Deepcool LS720 Digital Black
SSD: Kingston Fury 2TB
PSU: BeQuiet PurePower 12M 850W
Case: Lian Li Lancool 216
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro

So why you got fps drops like that (from 144 to 30fps) in the start when you got 144hz cap? I have the same problem from 300/200 fps to 30 fps drops

You mean at the beginning of every match, from the start island to battle bus to landing? For some reason, that's normal. I think it may be caused by the game engine, because why should your hardware instantly give its full power when you didn't even landed, right? But after this, the game runs most likely smoothly without much stuttering.

@@cubicxmanu Yea, that's right in the beggining stutters are normal but I got 1 week ago smooth and stable 300 fps on 3060 ti and ryzen 3600x but now this game is working very badly and its like 250-40 drops

Try to reinstall your GPU drivers with DDU and maybe try to check the game files in your Epic Games launcher. If that doesn't help, consider doing a clean installation of your Windows or whatever OS you're using right now.

Bro look at how much your 1% low FPS increased with dx12. So much better with no performance decrease. Less stutters in game with higher low fps. The more you play dx12 too the more it saves the renders of the map. So your latency should go down the more you play.

do you think i’ll hit 360fps stable with a 7800xt and 7800x3d? ddr5-6000-cl30 ram and stuff

think amd gpu’s are better for dx12 but performance mode works fine too

100% without a doubt. i have the 7950x3d (yours is better choice for gaming) plus a 2070super. I get 300 average at 1440p. when my 7900xtx comes in i am expecting 500+. my current setup has the cpu at about 20% usage max. with that set up I would expect 360+

Maybe not fully stable for the entire match (endgame things, you know i guess(, but most likely you will achive +360 fps and more in most situations.

@@kanifis 20% usage means youre using both CCDs, disable the one without 3D cache and you essentially have a 7800x3d. Performs better that way too....

This stuff performs worse than my 7500F, I swear these little kids be running 5 other games in the background when they benchmark and stuff🤦‍♂

i mean depends on your pc build, dx12 is more gpu bound as you can see in the video, and perfomance mode is more cpu bound, perfomance is better all around if you are willing to sacrifice the quality visuals of the game

In performance mode your GPU has less maintance, which means that your CPU can put out all of its possible power with the RTX 3070 i got in my system. And this overall means that the overall system input delay is much lower on performance mode than DirectX12, but it is possible to get better input latency while still using DX12, i could do a video if i have time. So you decide, do you want very low input delay (If you can even feel it?) with a pretty low level of graphics or do you want something like low - medium input delay with okay looking graphics.

@@cubicxmanu if you want low input delay in dX12 you either need to cap your frames or to get a good graphics card like 4070ti super or 4080+. If you have your gpu sitting at 90%+ utilization that adds alot of latency. Performance mode is easy to run gpu-wise so utilization never even really goes over 50%= lower input lag, but it doesnt really take much advantage of modern cpus since its dx11 title and its buggy so game will always stutter. (kids will see 50000000 fps all the time but if you take a look at 1% lows they will be horrendous) wether you feel it or not that varies from person to person but performance mode doesnt run smooth in any hardware. Even the kids on the 14900ks completely remove 1% lows from their benchmarks cuz they are ashamed to show them, look em up like 10+ 14900k vids not one shows 1% lows...

@@Key-z2x I totally agree with you, I also knew this before, but I just made this Video to show what it looks like in the current state of the game using DirectX12. And I also try to be transparent by showing the 1% lows, instead of many other do, or even do fake videos of this kind. If you are interested, I could do a video using DirectX11.

@@fish_R_stinky69 Ik my monitor only supports 165 Hz, but if I cap it at 360 Hz or even let it run unlimited, for example, then my input delay gets much lower, and it's possible to feel that if you have a good enough eye and feeling for latency differences. And also, at FPS rates of like 360 fps, you get something like 3 ms of delay, and the Monitor does have latency ratings of about 1-2 ms. So I think you would understand it better now, that it would be possible to feel the difference in latency, which is often the most important factor in Fortnite, and now know that not only FPS matters in FPS shooters, or maybe you've already known that :)
