Check out My Makewear: jimmydiresta.co...
In this woodworking project I use my 1920s' 36" bandsaw to sculpt a wooden robot toy. For this project build the video speed is 2x. I wanted to show a some woodworking techniques that I typically use on the bandsaw. The bandsaw blade is 1/4" deep with 6 teeth per inch.
This can be a fun workshop project to get your kids woodworking, and this project is typical of what I made as a kid on the bandsaw.
When sculpting or cutting on a bandsaw, I suggest always using a sharp blade and keeping your fingers out of the blade.
Thank You!!!
xo

This project was just for fun. Many of my bandsaw segments are too fast. I wanted to post one slower to see some techniques. This is the kinda thing I do at maker fair on the bandsaw thank you and enjoy

Great, Diresta! This work of art can be a template for molds. It would also look cool in resin, aluminum or brass.

Watching how easily that saw cuts, now I really want a BIG bandsaw. I really appreciate the sound, so soothing. Much nicer than a 14" saw. It was really useful to see you carving in real time. So much to learn for those who pay attention. It was really helpful to see how you worked back and forth to keep everything in balance. Thanks!

Being able to see these shapes in your mind and being able to make them take form with tools like this and materials like wood is something that younger people today will have zero mastery of. Thats not belittling the younger people, because they can do this with a 3D printer as if its nothing and I have zero clue how to do any of that. Its just an example of the divide between the generations. But all generations can appreciate the outcome of each!

That's purdy nifty....great video! Curious...how do you maintain or sharpen the teeth on those narrower blades. Do you? I've sharpened my 1" and 1/2" blades with a dremel and that works great, but on 1/4" and 1/8"...there are some many TPI it would be super time consuming and/or super difficult. They don't seem to hold an edge for very long either. A blade workshop video in the future by chance?
