This table / Island was designed by the client. The basic table frame and legs came as a kit from tablelegs.com. As you can see I modified it for drawers. The spalted maple planks for the top were from Vermont Wild Woods. The client wanted it "aged" i did much more after the video was complete ... you can see pics on my instagram @jimmydiresta

kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIKcZZZtZpmpkMU For all people concerned I can not make my own table legs. Look here to settle your worries. They are often budgetary concerns and most people don’t want to spend the money it takes to make table legs by hand. So for just a few hundred bucks we go out and buy them. it’s about making a living and treating your customer well.

jimmydiresta , along those same lines as your comment above: What are your thoughts on the "shelf system?" Although I am often tempted to ask clients " are you sure?" I usually don't push back too hard... unless their design is structurally flawed.

Funny...as soon as I saw the face frame I thought to myself, let the hate begin. I almost didn't scroll down. But then, hey I would have missed this great comment. Jimmy, do it your way and let all of us so called woodworking genius's cry about whatever method you betray all of us with. I don't care. If your customer is happy, if they write the final check and they recommend you because of your good looks and great personality...hey what's the problem. We only hate because we're really jealous anyway. Keep at it. WayofWood...still laughing.

Looks great Jimmy DiResta! I need more clients that would accept just nailing on drawer bottoms. I mean this in a respectful way. Its about function versus perfection. Great work.

Oh, Jimmy, I was loving the project right up to when you started putting the stain on! Then an involuntary "NO!" erupted from my mouth. But hey, you have to do what the customer wants. That beautiful wood would have aged so well, just under a coat of clear finish... Love your work. Thanks for sharing.

Complicated design with a lot of details. But sturdy. It should last a lifetime or two. I really like the drawer design, the way the slides are captured top and bottom and the extended sides. I wonder about how the solid table will distort with the top held down by pocket screws instead of floating clips. Inspiring! I'm saving this link for a future build. Thanks for all your amazing work.
